Silverado used to be the premier place for dementia care in Salt Lake City. Sadly, it is no more. Employee retention is not a priority, CNA’s are generally over worked and under paid, they struggle to retain kitchen and laundry staff also. The fabulous«engagements» that are supposed to be stimulating the residents are often«staged» for tours and don’t occur as they should. Holidays like the 4th of July, Memorial Day and the 24th of July have gone unnoticed, however, Mariachi, Cinco de Mayo and Margarita socials are plentiful. I will say that the physician and his PA are amazing and the majority of the nurses are also dedicated and know what it takes to deal with this population and their growing needs. If you’re looking to spend 7 to 12k per month to care for your loved one, do your research. Canyon Creek is much more affordable, it’s also cleaner and they communicate much more effectively. While Silverado is billed as an «assisted living,» it’s really nothing more than a private pay(they do not take waivers or medicaid) nursing home that will break the bank and not give you much bang for your buck. If you are going to tour, be sure you DON’T make an appointment to give them time to «stage» things for your visit. Walk in and see what it’s like, especially after 4 p.m. so you can see what things look like when people are at their most behavioral. This will give you the best idea of what things will look like in reality.
