This is not the place for tent camping. It is just a big parking lot, and some of my fellow campers were intimidating. When we went to the showers in the morning we discovered someone had taken a dump in one of them. We got out of there as fast as we could! It’s too bad Eureka doesn’t have any good impromptu camping options.

Awful place to tent camp! We were looking for a place to camp on the beach, and enjoy the sound of waves while we sleep. Since this place had only one review, we figured they may have just had a bad experience, but i would not recommend going there! It was very dirty, with druggies everywhere. It looked like most people were ‘residents’ living in their car, and, as the previous review mentioned, the camp host did not make an appearance, and their setup was also very trashy! There were beautiful views of the bay & eureka lights at bight, but we did not feel safe sleeping. I think it would be ok to stay in an RV, seemed like a busy place to ride ATVs, but tent camping wasn’t the best. It is, however, much cheaper than a hotel($ 20/nt), and a place to rest. It was getting late and we didn’t feel like driving 78 more miles down the coast, but we would recommend staying back in Arcata or down towards Fort Bragg there were several beautiful camping spots! We found out Eureka has no nice camping, but this would suffice as a last resort!

Nice Views of Humboldt Bay. Great Access to BLM’s Samoa Dunes Recreation Area. One can ride your ATV or jeep vehicle right into the dunes from the camp site. Not sure what the point of the«Camp Host» is. He should be relived of his duties. His trailer site was a mess. Broken down old crap boat with flat tires on the boat-trailer, coolant bottles under his trailer for all to see, a bit like a meth-lab sort of feel. He/she never came out to check on things(ie. did anyone pay for the night?) We must have been the only ones who paid that night, silly us. The toilets and shower were broken and out of order and obviously had been for some time. The one por-to-let was a mess and unsanitary. Trash all over the camp sites. The boat ramp and camp sites are used by unsavory locals who are coming out to shoot-up and get high and service clients. Obviously a regular place for this to happen and must not be on the Humboldt County Sheriff’s local patrol. This campsite needs to be taken over by BLM, since they have a ranger at the front gate who actually does his job.
