I loved living in the 09. It was great in 2005 and has only improved in the past decade, with more local businesses, exciting dining options, and socially-conscious companies moving into the area. This section of town is essentially a microcosm of the best of SA: beautiful old houses mixed in with new lofts and high-rise condos, great hole-in-the wall staples like Taco Garage, Broadway 5050, and the McNay Art Museum at one end and great new things happening at the Pearl District at the other(including the Doseum!), with the ever-expanding UIW campus between. Even though I have since moved across the country, when I visit I spend the majority of my time exploring this specific neighborhood. Additional highlights include Southerleigh, WD Deli, Broadway Daily Bread, and Commonwealth.

What a great area of town. Lots of great places to eat, shop and live. So close to downtown and the airport. I suggest using Unilocal to find things in the area that interest you then bookmark them and start exploring. Finding new gems is always fun.

Such a cool side of town! There’s all kinds of great things to do around here. Awesome food– try out Beto’s, which has been on Diners, Drive ins and Dives. Or Taco Garage, where it’s impossible to walk away hungry. Sol y Luna is pretty great too, if you’re looking for some awesome Mexican food and powerful margaritas. There’s all kinds of great little salons and spas around here, so if you ever get stressed out, the strategy is to go by the spa, and then off to one of the many excellent bars in the neighborhood! There are a bunch of great houses around here, and a lot of friendly people! Keep an eye out for the cops at the corner of Sunset and Broadway. They like to hide out there.
