A San Antonio classic. Try the Bates special. Nothing fancy here it’s tiny maybe 12 seats inside.

I’ve been here several times because I prefer to give my business to local places rather than huge chains. These guys are nothing spectacular. The food is just okay, kind of like a ghetto whataburger. However, it’s a locally owned joint so, I give them my business. I’m done supporting an ungrateful and surly restaurant though. I took my kid to grab a quick bite because he wanted a cheeseburger. They close at 9:00 and we are in line at 8:50. I pull up to the speaker at 8:54 only to be screeched at «we’re CLOSED!» Really? That’s a fantastic way to treat your customers. I get it, you’re tired, it’s ALMOST time to close but, guess what? According to your posted hours you are still open. Want to close early? Change your hours. Don’t want to take care of your customers? Get in another line of business. These guys are headed the way of the Sandwich Garden. Another local joint with abysmal customer service. Seriously, that guy was the WORST. San Antonio is growing guys, and there are plenty of options. Behaving like that ensures you’ll be gone in a couple of years…

Like time-traveling(and slight place-shifting) to what the first Whataburger might have been like. Whaddya mean, you can’t see the comparison? Thin patties, mustard, chopped iceberg and onions??? The cheese is a little different and the whole thing tastes a little more fresh, but you’re definitely in the same burger zone. I prefer BB’s crinkle fries to the often so-so draw at Whataburger. And there’s Big Red and the Orange Freeze, which tastes a lot like a crushed orange popsicle(I wonder if you can mix vanilla shake and Orange Freeze… and if so… does it taste like dreamsicle??) What sets BB apart is the edge on freshness and the old diner ambiance including that fried smell in your clothes. Otherwise. it’s valid to compare this to Whataburger… right down to the heavy use of the color orange. I might just go A-OK, but I’ll give credit for being local and for providing a wormhole thru time.

Came here this evening to see what the hype was all about and I’m sure glad I did! I ordered 2 Bates specials with mayo and cheese and my mom ordered the fish sandwich. It was very crowded for a Friday evening it was tough to fit in space in the parking lot especially finding a seat! Good thing that wasn’t a problem like I thought it would be. The restaurant itself takes you back to the simple days when food was cheaper. Seems like it has a lot of history. Once we ordered it took about less than 10 minutes to grab our food. Once I opened it, the steam of the burger had an amazing aroma that I couldn’t wait to bite into it. The buns were toasted which I really like and the cheese was perfectly melted. Although it kinda reminded me of the burgers my family orders at PikNik lol! Don’t get me started on the crinkle fries. I have no words except for amazing! The cashier we had was very nice and helpful. The Bates Special will definitely fill you up. I was not able to finish it. My family was very impressed too which is very rare they try new places. Forget Murfs Burger, Burger Boy runs San Antonio!

Fantastic little joint. It has a wonderful history, and every time I walk in I’m transported to the 1960s. Be prepared to eat and run if you dine in. There is VERY limited seating in their small diner. The portions are just the right size, and I am a big fan of the chicken sandwich and corn dogs. Crinkle fries are classic, and their shakes are delightful. Very reasonable prices.

Burger Boy has been around since I was a kid and that is a very long time. Their menu is simple and that is why they are still around. Their burgers are some of the best I’ve ever had. Crinkle-cut fries are to die for and wash it all down with an orange freeze. The Bates Special is my go-to menu item. I add bacon, cheese and jalapeños to it. You owe it to yourself to try this place once in your lifetime.

What can I say expect this was simply delicious. I normally judge a burger joint by the vegetables they use on their burgers, onions, tomatoes, pickles. You can tell a lot but the freshness of vegetables and combine them with a well cooked burger and you got yourself a place to get coming back for more.

Great little burger joint. But even better is the fish sandwich. They don’t have alot of seating. So you’d better grab drive thru or to go. Give it a shot you won’t be disappointed. They have shakes and fries also.

Where do I begin. Since a child I have been coming here. My siblings and friends would walk here almost every week just for their burger and orange freeze or shake. I met my wife in high school and introduced her to Burger Boy. We are in our mid 30’s and now have two boys Jesiah and Jaylen. If you ask them what they want to eat they will say Burger Boy. It is their favorite place to eat. My wife and I have recently just started calling them the Burger Boys. Even if we don’t bring them they will trick my father-in-law to bring them. He also love the place. I think it’s all because I grew up with the burger and introduced them to it. I don’t regret it and neither do they. Other places claim to have their own ingredients and weird twist to burgers but will NEVER beat Burger Boy. It might be a simple straight to the point real burger but it is the best and my family and I agree. You can have the over priced, artsy,“gourmet«burger because we’re not buying it. If you want a real burger come on down to Burger Boy and bring your family. Thanks Burger Boy for all the memories old and new and the future memories to come.

Awesome!!! Foods great!!! Atmosphere fantastic!!! It has been perfectly frozen in time and there’s not a thing that needs to be changed. This just feels right. The hamburger is awesome and $ 3.66. The milkshake is tasty according to my 11 year old and the crinkle fries are great. I think I should have ordered the orange freeze, but now I have a reason to come back tomorrow. We will definitely be back soon & often. And we heard that the owner, Carl Bates, raises his own cows… might be a rumor???

Of you want a good burger and fries that’s cheap and delicious then look no further. This place has all of 8 seats, it’s nothing fancy but it’s damn good! Get the double cheese burger because the additional patty is worth it! crinkle cut fries cooked to crispy perfection! I got the chocolate shake and it has whipped cream and sprinkles… feel the burger boy love? Yep!

Good fresh burger. I don’t go for the chicken, corn dog, scenery, time it closes(get there before product runs out, or they stop serving), or whatever else people feel to complain about. Burgers, cheeseburgers, bacon, I like them and the service. I like the fries, you ask for condiments you need, and eat there if you’d like. Price is nice, get in and out, I just don’t like when other customer’s are rude, especially the drive thru area, common courtesy. I suggest checking it out, but if your picky, there’s a burger out there for you, variety(spice of life).

Burger Boy is the BOMB! The hamburger patties remind me of a great burger from the grill and are always made to order. The fries are those large crinkle cut fries like the Oreda ones from the store, and I just love the Orange Freeze slushy drink. The cost of a ¼ pound combo is only like $ 6.50, so around the cost of a combo at McDonalds but WAAAAAAAY better. Fast drive thru. I’m totally hooked on Burger Boy. Love those guys!

The burger is okay. I hated the French fries. I’ve had better burgers for sure. And the texture of the fries… I guess they were cut to thick for my taste.

Dropped in at 8:30 and they close at 9. Ordered some burgers and fries and shakes. The guy said that they close in 30 minutes so he wasn’t going to be making shakes anymore. As I look at the person two ahead of us they are giving him a shake. I suggest closing at 8:30 instead of failing to deliver your whole menu. The food there is usually decent.

I wanted to grab a quick bite to eat and found this place on Unilocal. It’s a very cute old fashion lookin type of burger joint. When you walk inside, there are two counters on each side with bar stools looking chairs mounted to the ground for you to eat at. The menu is small, but it’s expected for a small burger place. Ordered the kids meal– burger that had mayo, mustard, onions, and pickles with a side of fries. The burger was very much what you would expect. The meat was a thin patty that’s similar to other fast food restaurants. I was a little disappointed with the fries. It tasted a bit soggy. Gving it three stars because this place is honestly just your typical fast food burger place.

Burger Boy didn’t cut it for me, everything was bland. We went on a hot day and the place kept getting hotter every time an order was put through. We ordered a burger, crinkle fries, vanilla milk shake, and a corn dog. I was really looking forward to chowing down on the corn dog but it was pretty greasy and there was nothing special to it. The burger, fries, and shake were much too boring for me to pop in for another go. Customer service was on point and the interior was nice and cozy.
