I am a foodie at heart and stay away from major chain restaurants. With that in mind, I REALLY wanted this place to be good. However the food was okay. Not bad – Not good. There wasn’t any flavor in the coating on the fish and shrimp, and the fries were the standard frozen variety you can purchase at H-E-B. There just wasn’t that wow factor in the main course – it was very bland. The small salad that came with the meal was the best part. Maybe it was an off day for the chef, and if there are additional ratings that contradict my review I will definitely give it another try.

This is where Pete’s Tako House used to be. «Ohhhh…» you’re saying; now you know where this is. Café Del Mar is a welcomed seafood addition to the North-of-Downtown scene. The menu here is quite extensive, but I settled on the grilled shrimp taco plate, which came with three tacos — generously filled — with cilantro lime rice and a small salad if I recall correctly. With a ginormous tea, it ran me about $ 12. It all was delicious. They practically give you a bucket of limes and lemons to season your plate at will. No alcohol here, but they do have tea, as I said, bottled/canned drinks, etc. It’s basically an open, square seating area inside — several tables, two TVs, and that’s about it. Kind of bland, but the food most definitely makes up for it. Definitely kid friendly and big enough for groups. It’s still new, so often empty. In fact, I went inside, and the cook and cashier were sitting at the table. After an awkward stare that was a bit longer than usual, one of them said, «Can I help you?» «Um… yeah, I’m here to eat?» I’ll definitely be back, and will take some photos for you Unilocalers to gawk over.
