If you’re looking for Mexican food and fresh hot chips with great hot sauce of various kinds, this is the place to be. They have happy hour every afternoon.

We’ve been to this location on several occasions and while the food is good the service tends to be fair to poor. They never bring tortillas with our meals nor do they offer them like most Mexican restaurants do nor do they offer drink refills and it’s difficult to flag down a server to ask for one. I went there today for lunch and had to ask 3 times for tortillas before receiving them and when I asked for a refill on my coffee I did not receive it until I had finished eating.

Came tonight on my birthday and request a booth. Hostess says«sure pick any one you like in the bar.» However, I see several booths in the main restaurant. Since I will likely be treated to 4+ drinks thanks to a designated driver I figure the closer to the alcohol the better. Uh no. First of all, the server was slow and I had to repeat myself. She was not moving with purpose but looking around to her coworkers to be social. They had three TVs turned to a basketball game that no one was watching. Then the waitress told me she did not feel comfortable serving me the cilantro vinaigrette because«if you saw it you would be disgusted.» Tonight did not meet my expectations.

Love their margaritas and mexican martinis. They have my absolute favorite salsa! Everyone has to try their Chicka-chicka-boom-boom enchiladas at least once. Flour tortillas are freshly made and amazing with their queso and fajitas.

I have really fond memories of Chuy’s in Waco through my college years. I remember the food being better, the service friendlier… This Chuy’s is not my favorite and being in San Antonio, the Mecca of Tex-mex, you’ll be better off going elsewhere.

Always though this was a fun place to get drinks and apps. I especially like the consistently good service and goofy tshirts they sell. But I never felt the entrees were a great value — till yesterday I had the chicken stuffed fried avocado on the Monday special. Damn good — great sauce with it. I shall return each Monday till no avocados remain! Then back for a victory margarita. Also my wife loves their jalapeño ranch(jalapeño and something white) dipping sauce with her chips.

I would give this place 4-stars, but I’m holding back for a reason. Chuy’s has good food, don’t get me wrong. My problem with this place has been variable quality. I consistently get tacos al carbon or the steak burrito, and it’s pretty hard to mess up these simple creations, unless you use low quality ingredients. This is what happened when I ordered tacos one night, about 30 minutes before closing. My wife ordered flautas too, and both of our meals were really bad. My tacos had sparse meat, super rubbery and nervy. My wife’s flautas seemed old and doubly fried. The experience was bad enough to sour our many good Chuy’s experiences. Now, I’m not saying I’ll never eat Chuy’s again. I am saying that it’s going to take some time before Chuy’s earns my foodie honors again. I honestly haven’t eaten at Chuy’s since that poor meal, and it’s been months since. I’m sure I’ll go back, one day. In general, I’d rather hear a restaurant say«sorry, we’ve run out of quality ingredients for your order» than to have said restaurant attempt making my order with the kitchen scraps.

Great place to come to. My main thing I tell people is that it is NOT Tex Mex, it is Austin Mex. Mainly because we are in San Antonio with real Tex Mex and if I bring friends from the southside here proclaiming this is Tex Mex you would never see me again… That said the food in my opinion is great. The service is wonderful. The waits are… Well waits… I have been coming here for 10 years. Here some secrets: If you are in a rush, don’t come here. If you want to be seated quickly go for the bar seating. Usually no wait and decent service. Tables over 6 are harder to accommodate it seems, so be ready for the wait. Basically plan ahead when coming here. My best experiences are coming after 8:30 on off days to avoid the crowds. I don’t drink but everyone I bring who does loves the drinks. This place is «Austin» in that it has non lard beans and tortillas for those veggie lovers. Last my favorite thing is they have some of the best Tres Leches in my opinion. So yeah overall a good place to go within the delimiters mentioned. Oh and I found out about this place because I lived in Austin for 10 years, made perfect sense there. Glad to see they are making it in other markets. They have exploded here in SA.

I must say for coming at lunch time on Labor Day, I was quite pleased with the immediate seating we got. Waitress came over to the table within 2 mins to get our drink order. When it was time to order our food, the waitress was very knowledgeable with the food and was extremely nice and friendly. We waited nearly 10 mins before our food came out. Which was extremely fast. Our service was prompt and food was warm and delicious. I must say even though this is considered a chain«Tex-Mex», food never disappoints. I would definitely come back to try something new. I had the Chicka Chicka Boom Boom and it was spicy but oh so good!

Alright y’all so my experience is based on the awareness and mental preparedness that I was walking into a tex-mex restaurant. Had I not have known this key fact I’m sure I would’ve been quite disappointed. As long as you know what you’re getting yourself into you’ll have a grand time. The margaritas are made from scratch and have 100% fresh ingredients none of pre mix crap. I had the swirl and I was very pleased with the taste of them. They offer free chips and salsa so score! There is plenty of seating as the restaurant includes a dining area, bar, and an outside patio. Whatever type of feel you’re going for they can accommodate. Apparently they offer free queso during happy hour, sadly I didn’t make it on time for the offer. Such a bummer but that means I’ll just have to swing by again. The prices are moderate and come with a decent amount of food. I must say that their tortillas are really really like ridiculously good tasting.(Who doesn’t love a good Zoolander reference?) The fajitas were honestly surprisingly good. The one thing I do like about tex-mex places is how they make the rice. This place kept up the pace and offered it without onions. This is a good alternative if you’re around the La Cantera area so give it a shot!

A friendly atmosphere greets you and is show at every turn. The nacho bar on the weekends is a great plus! My wife loves Tex-Mex but living in San Antonio I can get burned out pretty easily so the selection of non-Mexican food is killer. Try the fried chicken! There are several sauces available and they will bring samples of each if you have trouble making up your mind.

Always enjoy food at this place! The food is really tex mex! Today though and the reason they get 4 starts is because my enchiladas did not have red onions that’s one of the reason I love their enchiladas! Service is meh but not bad l. Was pretty packed for prom and Mother’s Day weekend!

We stopped here on a whim, my fiancé mentioning that he used to come here for happy hour but couldn’t remember the food. We should’ve went next door, since usually being unmemorable explains itself! The waitress was helpful and sweet, but the food was bland, flavorless, and worse quality than Mama Margie’s. Enchiladas were all tortilla and barely any chicken. Boring rice and burnt beans. Tortilla soup tasted like onions, but not much else. The best part of the meal was the warm chips and hot salsa. But why did they dump some salsa into my tortilla soup? I just didn’t get it at all. Won’t be back. My rating system: 5 stars= Driving across town just for this! 4 stars= I would recommend visiting. 3 stars= Average, acceptable, positive. 2 stars= You might be able to drag me in. 1 star= I will definitely not be returning.

THEYDELIVER… so cool! Besides the location being in a crap hole of a place… GREAT chuy’s! The staff has always been very courteous and prompt. My boyfriend and I usually get the fajitas for one and split it… and order an extra side of rice and beans(this allows the calories to go where it matters — THEMARGS. What is there to say. you know they’re killer good. OH, and don’t forget to order EXTRA creamy jalepeño dip!

I wanted to like Chuy’s more than I did. Their chips and salsa were just okay(and the jalapeño creamy dip that everyone was talking about really just tasted like ranch), and our food was typical for any Mexican chain. I was impressed with the vegetarian labels, but other than that, it left me wanting more. On top of all that, our service wasn’t great. Sorry, Chuy’s. You’re just not for me.

Addiction = Hatch Chile. I’m not sure, but I think one of the first steps to addiction recovery is admitting you have a problem. So I am admitting that I am hooked on Hatch Chile. I don’t care if it is on burgers or in Mexican food. In this case, it was enchiladas. I was working in this part of town today and found myself near Chuy’s at lunch. I have eaten at various Chuy’s locations but had never been here. This one is similar layout to the other ones that I have been in. You wait in line, finally get seated, and the chips and salsa arrive. Of course, you have to ask for the ranch dip, to make the meal complete. I ordered the enchiladas my way, which means covered in Hatch Chile sauce. Today, the Chile sauce was about as spicy as I have ever had. When I need Kleenex, I know it’s spicy. I don’t know if Chuy’s other food is any good or not as I always get the same thing. Next time, I am sure I will order the same thing.
