Overall it was okay. But that’s about it. I expected a little more for the dollar. Customer service was not great. I didn’t get any napkins silverware or even straws. I wasn’t asked if I needed anything either. Luckily I have a habit of checking my bag before driving off, but I had to honk my horn twice before anyone would come back to the window to help me. I don’t think I will be going back to this place.

I believe in second chances. I returned today to a much better experience. The workers were all very friendly and the food was both hot and fresh. I had the two piece chicken meal with fried okra. I opted to replace the wing for a breast for an extra 89 cents which was very reasonable. My order was actually brought to my table which was unexpected and nice, the portions were more than plenty and the chicken was very tender and moist. The fried okra was very good and as always the yeast rolls were hot and delicious. There is a soft serve ice cream machine inside the restaurant next to the fountain drinks with ice cream cones available. One can only assume it’s not free but you never know I reckon.

I’ve passed by the San Marcos location plenty of times while traveling to and from Austin on the bus and always wondered what this place was about. Funny how I always thought Golden Chick was a Chinese restaurant at first. Then I heard later on that it’s another chain fast food fried chicken place like KFC, Popeye’s, Church’s and Bush’s. So I was curious to see what GC was about. I ordered a 6 pc chicken strips combo w/mashed potatoes, coleslaw, 2 extra rolls and a raspberry lemonade. The strips were pretty good, better than Bill Miller’s, Speedy’s and Whataburger. The coleslaw was good but I didn’t care for the mashed potatoes. Now the rolls were big, delicious and had a bit of sweetness to them unlike at Bush’s where you had to add honey to them and much bigger than the rolls at Speedy’s. I like the raspberry lemonade a lot as well as the ice too. They have free self serve ice cream cones too. Now all GC has to do is to build more locations in S.A. and they can be a legit competitor to Bush’s, Church’s, Popeye’s and KFC.

As the new chicken place in the neigborhood we have been eager to try it since it opened a few days ago. We had Golden Chick before in smaller towns but not frequently and all I could remember about the place was that i liked their yeast rolls. We came for a family meal to feed 7. We walked in because the drive tru was overcrowded and pleasently surprised with how helpful the staff was considering they were being trained at the same time. We ordered a 15 piece family meal which came with three sides and rolls and added a gallon of tea for a resonable price of about 30+$ The service was quick and we were on our way. The chicken was crispy, hot and quite enjoyable. Fries were better than most chicken places. The macaroni was a bit in the bland side, the rolls however were just as I rembered and so good. Overall we will be back again.

Not bad for fast food chicken. Nice and crispy. Moist and tender. The cole slaw is nice and crisp with not too much sauce. Pieces of chicken are on the small end of the scale in relation to the price which is on the higher end.
