Halcyon

Really terrific space, lovely menu, friendly staff and overall great experience. I live in Seattle, so this is my go to coffee spot when I am in town. Excellent quality and cool spot.

Warning: This is not your typical coffee house…
Visited Halcyon while in town last month. What a crazy place it was that day. I was in town visiting from San Diego where we also have a Halcyon. I was expecting a laid back coffee house with food, coffee and some beer drinkers– you know like casual beer drinkers, like one here and there… Well I visited on a Sunday around noon on what appeared to be SUNDAY FUNDAY. Not sure who decides to go to a coffee shop and get cray– but apparently Halcyon is the place to be at if you want to get wasted on Sunday.
I was attempting to do work on my laptop– and was disrupted numerous by a group of 4 they were very loud and appeared to have had enough drinks. Everyone including myself was giving them the looks and looking at the staff in hopes that they would say something. They didn’t.
I put on my headphones and drank my latte and carried on, well almost carried on… I decided to be proactive and do something to stop the madness. I decided to send them a msg via Unilocal as I sat there. I never heard back but felt good about letting them know or at least asking them if «is this your normal clientele/vibe…If so, I will make a note for next time I’m in San Antonio. If not, please do something»
I’m not hating on those individuals that like to drink and have fun on Sunday– hey that’s great, but if you’re at a «café» and everyone else around you is doing work and or having lunch with their grandmas — someone should say something and it shouldn’t have to be a customer. That someone should be the employees/​management team. Hay Dios Mio.
I will give them one star for the delicious latte, and one star for the BLT sandwich.

Iced Soy lattes are to die for.
I had to make multiple trips here during my San Antonio trip, this was the best coffee that I had. The atmosphere and building are beautiful. If i lived here this would be my spot!
They have a HUGE bar, so i am thinking this is a completely different scene at night, not sure it’d be my thing but as for the daytime vibe, sign me up.

I keep forgetting to try this place out. The food was amazing. The chicken and waffles with bourbon maple syrup, topped with bacon… WOW! The omelette was so yummy and fresh. The dressing on top of the side salad was really good. We can’t wait to go for happy hourssss

This bar/​lounge is located in the Blue Star complex. I frequent this location to study, because they close at 2am throughout the week, and serve a variety of beverages and food items. My biggest complaint is how loud it is on the inside. Even with my Bose noise cancelling headphones, I can hear the music through my headphones. Along with how loud the establishment is, the lighting is also dim. Studying there on the weekend is not recommended since they act more as a bar.
Their Mac N Cheese and hummus plate are delicious. If you’re into tea, they have a good selection. My favorite team is the Orange Jasmine, which is a easy to drink white tea. During my last visit, I tried they house coffee and a Cortado; the house coffee was good.
Overall, if you’re looking for a late night study place during the weekday, I recommend this location. There are not many coffee-​like-​shops that stay open late in San Antonio.

I’m a fan of the Halcyon in Austin, and I was excited to find out there was one in Southtown!
We had just left 1919 — where we couldn’t even get close to a seat and found a few seats at a table in Halcyon. Such a relief to be able to sit down!!!
Halcyon has a great menu of food and beers! They’re know for their S’Mores (they bring a S’Mores kit and your roast them yourself at the table!)!!! I really wanted that, but no one in my group was up for sharing. :(
So we just hung out and had a few beers. Compared to 1919, it’s such a chill place to hang out, but still cool — just not obviously trying so hard!!!

Bloody Mary’s … What more do you want to have for brunch. On a Sunday afternoon oh yeah Halcyon is the place to be. They have such a wonderful brunch menu. I’ve only had the pleasure of trying there turkey sandwich and it was delicious, with a side of my wonderful bloody Mary. The wait staff is amazing; along with the cool bartenders we had the pleasure of meeting every time we go there. So if you in the south town area on a Sunday and want some good vibes, and a full tummy this is a place for you. They have plenty of seating inside and out.

Did I just walk into a casting call for Portlandia? Everyone working here is a walking cliché (I honestly couldn’t tell 90% of the staff apart as they all looked like they just stepped off a dockyard circa 1910). The food was actually good but the incredibly pretentious and «hip,» i.e. contrived, atmosphere really irritated me. The worst part for me though was the patronizing ass who over-​enthusiastically took my order. I’ll provide a description so management can retrain him: Tall, very thin, glasses, plaid shirt, tight jeans, forearm tattoos, Pompadour hair cut. Wait a second, my description just covered at least five other staff on duty while I was there, never-​mind.

Great place to hang with friends or by yourself. On weekends take your friends for some coffee and some smores by a fire they provide. Very chill casual and hip. Has a bar but also kids
Come through with their parents lol. But it’s decent and calm. Tuesday morning or Friday night.

This place is a one stop shop. $ 3 mimosas make its perfect for brunch. And the full bar and cute little s’mores set up make it perfect for date or late night. Love the atmosphere so trendy– the start of the Southtown come up.

My last visit I came in for a late night snack. I ordered a latte and a Mac attack. When you come at 9PM on a weekend, the place gets pretty crowded and the service takes longer; the waitresses also get confused about where the orders go to.
They had run out of 16oz mugs and could only serve a 12oz latte when I ordered. It’s cute how their warm beverages come with a side of animal crackers. The Mac attack is spiral noodles with cheese and pulled pork. It’s a good serving for the price.
My friend ordered a hot tea and a grilled cheese with ham. The hot tea comes with free refills which is a plus. The waitress brought out her grilled cheese with a side salad and left out the ham. She decided to not complain and eat it. Then 10 minutes later the waitress came out with the correct order and said the previous plate was for someone else. She kept both plates because that was a kitchen mistake.

Halcyon Southtown has great potential, but suffers from some basic, recurrent problems I encounter over and over again:
1) Lighting. If you’re a writer or student, staff dim light in the evenings to almost nothing, making some types of work almost impossible. It won’t hurt the ambiance – PLEASE don’t dim the lights so much!
2) Music volume. Halcyon always has a great vibe and a good crowd. If you’re studying, or trying to hold a conversation, music volume is often too loud. PLEASE check the volume on the music.
3) Wi-​Fi connection. When many Internet users are logged on (almost always the case), Wi-​Fi is extremely slow at Halcyon – sometimes you can’t even log-​on to the network due to overcrowding. PLEASE beef up your wireless network.
4) One odd note that usually doesn’t occur – today (01÷03÷15) there was no soap in the men’s bathroom – and custodian was literally in the bathroom but didn’t know where you keep the soap?!? PLEASE look after basic sanitation for your customers.
Halcyon’s food and beverage service is good – if management would commit
to fixing the above ambiance and/​or sanitation issues, these simple tweaks would go along way to making the Halcyon experience excellent.

The service is fine. It’s not perfect but it’s not bad. I prefer the morning crew a lot more than the night but that’s just me. If you’re looking for a very chill place this would be it. Literally the most chill coffee and tea place in San Antonio. I’ve been a few times and there is someone always laying down on their couches without a care in the world. Which is totally fine by me. As a new dog owner, I really appreciate that they allow dogs on their patio. I can enjoy one of their many lattes and Gandalf can enjoy his celery sticks. The fact that they offer wifi, bakery lorraine pastries, latte art coffee, delicious sandwiches and comfy seating is a win for me. It does appeal to a younger crowd, young professionals and/​or just anyone in general who wants to get away from the craziness of the rest of the city.
My favorite is the patio, besides it being dog friendly it has a really nice view and my boyfriend loves watching the ducks! haha

AWESOME!!! I wish that I had found this coffee shop earlier! The interior is cozy but there isn’t a lot of seating (on Monday night it was mostly students and couples), however, I bet when the weather is warmer that the outdoor seating is nice. I was pleased to see that they have a very expansive menu and also sell cocktails, beer and wine in addition to the usual coffee drinks. You order at the bar and then they call your name when your drinks are ready. I ordered the Mayan hot chocolate and it was EXCELLENT!!! My group also ordered the S’mores for four! Super fun and a great dessert to share. I look forward to coming back here to try s’more! (You see what I did there? haha).

Halcyon is a great asset to have in the Blue Star Complex. Bar/​coffee shop/​sandwich shop — it serves several purposes.
I’ve been to Halcyon when wanting to eat something not cooked at home on a late weeknight, as they offer their food until close. Several people were just chilling having drinks but I didn’t feel out of place with tea and a sandwich on the porch thingy. Essentially, it’s nice to have a place you could bring a diverse group at the end of the night (or morning or lunch or afternoon) with neither drinkers or non-​drinkers feeling out of place.
I felt motivated to write a review today after they were able to hook me up with some matches about a half hour ago. Their friendliness earlier says that when my friend arrives from out of town late tonight Halcyon will be on our list of stops. Chill friendly welcoming place.

The first aspect I noticed about Halcyon was its great interior and nice setup. There were some interesting hip paintings on the walls, nice areas for sitting with couches, as well as areas for studying with tables. There were lots of people working on their computers. The last time I was there, my experience was even more amplified by live music on the acoustic guitar. Although Halcyon was crowded, it had a relaxed atmosphere rather than a busy, lively one, which was an absolute delight.
My friend and I got s’mores and coffee, and both were fantastic. Their coffee tasted amazing to balance the sweetness of the s’mores, which was served on a small with a mini flame in the middle — super cute.
Overall, I had a great time at Halcyon — going there was absolutely worth the experience.

One star, so disappointed as I LOVE the Austin location. We ordered a coffee and s’mores from a very rude lady behind the counter, perhaps she was having a bad day and singled us out, who knows… She took her time with the coffee then 30 minutes after finishing the coffee we were STILL waiting on our s’mores so we reminded her. In response she rudely informed that they take 5 minutes… The presentation was unacceptable, the wood tray the marshmallows were on was dirty and the gram crackers were stale… However the unapologetic lady was worse.
On the plus side the Bloody Mary I ordered from the bar was really well executed… However the bar is fly infested as well as the dining area.

Went here late night. I LOVE that there is coffee late night here and I can also get it in the form of a cocktail.
The smores rocked my world.
The fried mozzarella cheese pretty much drained out of the breading, so don’t order that.
Choco-​martini was awesome and so was my white chocolate macadamia nut concoction.
They have cool board games and you can hang out after drinking, not drink at all, or study late night here.
Service was OK. 3 guys are at the bar, apparently only one is serving, the other two are fiddling around with things. No one acknowledged us till I spoke up after much time ellapsed. Apparently the bar tender was busy chatting up a patron, which is fine, but the other two could have said something like «hello! (Insert bartender’s name) will be right with you!» I had to illicit that out of him when he was right in front of me watching me and my friends get impatient.
That being said, I would come here again.

A good friend recommended this place, I walked in with a party of five January first. It looked nice, but there was no service at all, and we could not be seated. There was one person occupying a six people table reading a book that would not let us sit there with her. I asked for help and the people working there did not really care. So I don’t care for this place either. I’m from mexico city and will not recommend to anyone this place. Too bad I can’t say anything about their coffee, food, or drinks…
