Polish were good but the Italian Beef was the bomb. The au jus was rich and flavorful. The chili was thick and tasty. Almost as good as Detroit coney islands. :-). I wish I could find Italian Beef close to my side of town in Houston. I’ve found one place in the city and it wasn’t as good as Jerry’s.

First off let me say that I’m from the S Side of Chicago so I know Chicago style dogs. All the ingredients are correct but the execution is terrible. The actual Vienna Beef is room temperature, not warm or hot like it should be! The hotdog bun is room temp not warm like it should be also. All in all if your from Chicago don’t go here because you will be let down. The guys working the kitchen don’t know anything about quick service, they are slower that a snail drag racing. If you want true Chicago dogs along with the prompt quality service go to Wrigleyville Grill near N Star Mall off of I-410.

I love this place when I’m working downtown. They used to have a fairly large dining area which is now closed off. You now have a couple of barstool spots to eat at if you choose to dine in. It can be very crowded and this is the only reason for taking a star away which I hate to do to this place. The dogs are superb… A#1 good food. Good people. Get to Jerry’s and experience a spot on Chicago dog or two set in downtown SA!

I love this pace, but only when I’m welcomed. The sign says 11 am — 4 pm, M-F. It was Thursday. My wife and I walked 15 minutes, passed up other options and bee-lined to JERRY’s. We got to the door at 11:20. It was locked. The guy sitting behind the count only looked at us once and looked down at his phone. We stood there for a minute or so, confused really. He never moved. So, we left. I guess we weren’t worth the trouble it took to let us know that they were either closed or that whatever. That sucked.

Had 2 Chicago dogs and fries. Excellent. The guys behind the counter were really nice, and their banter with a couple of regulars was great. If you’re looking for a good lowbrow lunch, then it’s a can’t miss.

+ Great tasting Chicago food!(I had the Italian beef with fries) + Prices are reasonable + Staff is friendly and attentive — The place needs a little TLC, and a good cleaning.

A great value for Chicago favorites. They use all beef Vienna Hot Dogs. That is a big plus and a great foundation for making really good chili cheese dogs and Chicago style dogs. The Italian Beef if very good. The bread is very authentic. Make sure and get it wet with Giardiniera relish. This it the perfect addition to a wonderful Italian beef. The cheese fries are also very good. The service is friendly, helpful and fast. The Chicago sports memorabilia on the walls is a nice touch. The only drawback is it can be very hot in here. Especially on a hot summer San Antonio day. I look forward to seeing how it is when the weather starts to cool off. Overall Jerry’s is a great place for a good inexpensive lunch.

I have a hard time deciding what I like better, Jerry & Maria, or their authentic, straight outta Chicago Hot Dogs and Italian beef sandwiches! I’ll just have to keep going back until I figure it out!!!

I’ve worked downtown for over ten years… but had never been to Jerry’s. Until today. Ordered a chili dog(with all the fixins), an order of cheese fries that I shared with my buddy and a can of Diet Dr. Pepper. Including tip, it was $ 11.30. Maybe I’m a cheapskate, but that’s kinda pricey for one chili dog($ 4.59). The food was good — they use all-beef franks, the chili was nice and meaty and the fries were crisp. I’m glad they used grated cheddar cheese instead of melted«cheese product». I’ll be back for the Italian Beef.

Authentic Vienna Beef, Chicago Style hot dogs served by real Chicago folks. Maria went out of her way to talk to myself and my kids like we were family. I can not say enough good things about the attention to detail, the quality of the ingredients or the atmosphere of this established community stalwart. This was the first of what will be many future visits.

I know, I know– it’s a hotdog. But really– Jerry’s has the best! The Chicago dog is oh so delicious but sometimes I get a gyro(they slice the meat off the skewer right there). Sometimes it’s a little wait to get your order but it’s worth it. A great lunch spot or tourist break visit

The best Chicago style sandwiches in San Antonio!!! All sandwich ingredients are«imported» from Chicago. The other pretenders in town do NOT use Chicago bread!!! Jerry does. Makes all the difference. I order my beef sandwich«hot & juicy». Try one. Warning — you will get messy, but it’s worth it.

By far the best Hot dog and Italian Beef in the state! Jerry goes that extra mile to make your meal look as original as they can come.

ITALIANBEEF-A sandwich that will make your mouth dance! I love chatting with Maria(the owner). This is a dive, do not expect any fluff here. Get the Chicago dog and an Italian beef, don’t come reviewin around here about a chili cheese dog ;)

Okay. Let me get this out. I didn’t have a hot dog. I did, however, have the Gyro. And it didn’t disappoint. Delicate, moist beef and lamb wrapped in a soft flatbread and garnished with tomatoes, onions and a healthy helping of sour cream– Gyro Chicago-style. Everyday Jerry picks up his daily ingredients from the airport where they are shipped from Chicago. It is authentic Chicago food shipped in directly, daily. Jerry works deliberately in the kitchen, hand preparing every piece of food that comes across the counter. His wife runs the counter and greets all customers with a warm welcome and energetic hello. The décor is Chicago sports teams and skyline paintings– and a fan blowing– making it a mini-Windy City! Great visit and I can’t wait to come back and try one of those famous DOGS!

This place is great. It has big beefy dogs and delicious Italian meat sandwiches. I have never been to Chicago so I can’t speak to its authenticity personally but a friend from there said it is the closest thing to real that he has found in Texas. My favorite is the Italian meat sandwich with peppers and dipped in au jus. Not something to take back to the office or eat on the go. I go there for lunch at least every other week. It seems like it has a lot of regulars which speaks highly of it. I do think it is a bit pricier than I would like, but it is downtown, so I guess they have high rent. And it is cheaper than most lunch places downtown. I do not think they are open for dinner, but I could be mistaken.

Wow this place is awesome! walked in around noon so it was getting ready to get busy. There was a lady working the counter and a guy working in the back and I’m assuming they are the owners, but anyway, when you walk in, everything about this place is Chicago. A lot of sports memorabilia, mainly Chicago of course. The seating area is small, I really like how they decorated the place! It didn’t take long for them to have my order ready, 10 mins the max. I ordered the Chicago hot dog with fries and a soda for $ 6ish which is not a bad deal. The bun was nice and soft, having poppy seeds on them made it even greater. The dog itself was nice and it had that snap when u bite into it like those Oscar Myers beef franks you buy at the store. The peppers, pickle, tomatoes, onions, and that neon green radish thing was a melody in my mouth. I have never been to Chicago but if this is what their hot dog tastes like, I think I’m hooked. I’m glad I got to experience the taste, sadly I have to go back to FL in two days. When I was done eating and walked out, the line was out the door and FYI, some one posted on Unilocal that they are closed on Mondays, that is not true.

I can’t believe I’ve been coming to this place for YEARS! It seems like just yesterday when I was a skeptic walking into Jerry’s that first time waiting to be disappointed by another fly by night Chicago dog place when he ACTUALLY delivered on the goods. I’ve been getting my fix ever since then from here. The place is exactly what you’d expect from a native Chicagoan. Sports memorabilia galore with a dash of attitude. Since they first opened the place, it has expanded into a second room with booths and tables for customers to dine in. The dogs here are the real deal. Steamed Poppy Seed Bun, check. 100% Vienna Beef Dog, yup. Neon Green Relish, uhuh. Along with everything else you come to expect of a legit Chicago dog. This stuff takes me back to when I was a kid visiting family in Chi-town with that first bite. Fortunately for you and I, Jerry’s is not a one trick pony b/c they also make a FANTASTIC Italian Roast Beef. He makes them Hot N Juicy just like when you were growing up. His au jus is full of flavor as well so I get mine«extra juicy». Jerry and his wife are very friendly as we’ve talked a few times over the years about the Windy City and how he made his way down to SA. They are very passionate about their business and their food and treat each customer as part of their family. This place truly will give you a taste of some of the best«quick cuisine» Chicago has to offer but be sure to bring cash b/c for as long as I’ve been coming here, they only take the green stuff.
