Super excellent. You get what you pay for, except here you get more. Not too pricey, not too cheap. The food and drinks were good, including the fact that we asked for custom margaritas and not only did they accommodate but they were super delicious and no additional cost. This isn’t a fancy restaurant that will amaze you with exotic or creative recipes. Instead it will give you that lovely tex-mex meal you want(and need) when you’re craving something simple. Don’t look at the reviews that rated this place low. Had I done that I would have missed out. They don’t get it and that’s fine. I imagine if it were busy that the service could be slow but I have not experienced that. But I could see it and would be okay knowing that going in.

Eating at La Posada de Rey was an excellent experience. I got the Unilocal app just to say so. Starting with the handshake from the owner as we entered, I knew it was going to be a great experience. The waiter was just the right amount of attentive and friendly. They serve Coca-cola products! There is nothing worse than asking for a Coke and being offered a Pepsi. The free chips were warm, fresh and crisp, perfectly thin so that you don’t feel like you are eating a cracker and they don’t break when you try to scoop their salsa — which was also good. Their food was delicious — chicken enchiladas were well seasoned with tender moist chicken and a generous amount of cheese, charro beans that actually had flavor, and gratis tortillas. Their frozen margaritas are also excellent. There is not a thing I could complain about with either the ambiance(Which was quiet and almost felt like a mom and pop Italian restaurant –even though it was Mexican food) or the actual food and service.) Just be prepared to pay for the quality. It’s not Taco Bell… By any stretch. I felt it was very reasonably priced.($ 25 for two — not including margaritas)

Absolutely terrible. The most enjoyable part of the meal was the water. The beans in the bean soup were hard, under cooked. The nachos that came with the meal; many of the chips were soggy and the chips luke warm. The chili on top of the cheese enchiladas and tamale was cold. The tamale just fell apart. And the crispy taco was so greasy it fell apart when I tried to pick it up. I pointed out the taco to the waiter and he stood there silent for a moment then said he was sorry. Took it away and brought me the full bill. I told the owner and was told I should of told her. I mentioned I had told the waiter and she took off to the kitchen. I would of been much better off at Taco Bell. Better food, better price.

There are so many Mexican joints these days, especially in San Antonio. It seems that they are all trying to do something to set themselves apart– from trying new, «gourmet» recipes(read: weird), to having flashy décor. It’s hard to find good, old fashioned Tex-Mex, and often when you do find the old recipes they aren’t made with pride– the ingredients are cheap and not fresh. Enter La Posada Del Rey– the environment is muted and classy, the servers are career servers(no 18 year old kids) and treat their profession as an art. But the food is exceptional. In fact, this may be my favorite Mexican restaurant in San Antonio– definitely out-performing Mi Tierra and every place on the Riverwalk. Some reviews mentioned watery salsa and cheap cheese– clearly these individuals cannot tell the difference between poor quality and classically simple. The queso has a smoky flavor and is not made with Velveeta(white man’s queso), and while there are not any Rotel-style veggies in it, that does not mean it is bland. The cheese is high quality and lightly seasoned, if I had to guess I would say they probably put some of their fresh-blended salsa in it. So if you want Velveeta and Rotel stay home and make it yourself, but if you want subtle, authentic Mexican dipping cheese theirs is fantastic. And the salsa– the only reason I can think of that it might be thought of as watery by another reviewer is that fresh vegetables and peppers are made up largely of water. This is the kind of salsa you might make if you had a garden full of fresh ingredients– it’s a grown up flavor with lots of fresh onions, tomatoes and peppers. The entrees are perfect iterations of the recipes those of us who grew up in South Texas all cut our teeth on. Cheese enchiladas with Tex Mex beef sauce, moist taco meat that is seasoned PERFECTLY, massive chalupas loaded down with excellent refried beans, veggies and topped with a huge slather of their fantastic guac. And the charro bean soup is so authentic, the only place I’ve tasted anything like it is INMEXICO. It’s Tex Mex made with quality, fresh ingredients and served with pride, instead of slopped on a plate chain restaurant style a-la El Chico, Casa Olé, or Monterey’s. Imagine that, no gimmicks needed, just stick to the classics done right. Every bite takes me back to my childhood and assures me that contrary to current popular opinion, quality and Tex-Mex are not mutually exclusive propositions.

We consider ourselves mexican food aficionados and this place we stumbled across on a trip to San Antonio tops our list. All the ingredients are fresh and the dishes are authentic. We were greeted personally by the owner. When I asked for any sauce that was a little spicier, the chef made me a personal creation of fresh peppers and he personally brought it to the table with pride. We were presented with the best bean soup we have ever had. And when I asked for their favorite margarita, the waiter and bartender personally mixed one up together that wasn’t even on the menu, but was amazing. We will return every time we are in town.

Just what I needed, a place to dip into for chips, guac, and a white russian with coffee. Weird combo, I know, but its just what I need and they got it. Thanks guys

A old school Tex Mex joint that used to have several locations and recently moved. The place used to be at Brookhollow and then moved to Alamo Heights. The food is simple but good. The place is famous for its bean soup, you got to try it. The Tacos al Carbon, Bistec Ranchero, guacamole salad, and queso is muy good. Its great to see this place back in business and serving good Tex Mex. I would avoid Alamo Café and go here instead.

Posada Del Meh… We checked out this place because it’s very close to our house now in its new location. We started with queso and margaritas. The margarita tasted like a sour mix, and the queso was bland and tasted like the stuff you buy in bulk. My entrée was good, I got one of the combos that came with a taco and chalupa. Standard stuff, but good, nonetheless. Our waiter was also terrific, and he informed us that it was his first day. He’s a natural that one. I’d definitely try it again, but avoid the queso and margs.

Great food and friendly staff. Love the margaritas, especially the frozen large one! Taco salad and hot sauce rock. Glad I found this restaurant in San Antonio.

I was so excited to try this new restaurant in my neighborhood, and it sorely underwhelmed. What a complete disappointment, unfortunately. I’m sorry, but the watery, bland salsa didn’t do it for me. The wait staff, while friendly, worked hurriedly to clear our table and push us out the door. Also, the acoustics in this place are horrible– noisy, cramped space. On a positive note, the cheese enchiladas are just like my great grandmother’s recipe! However, enchiladas alone aren’t enough to make me go back. It was worth a shot, but I’ll drive a little further for better salsa, service, and ambience. Sorry.

The best Mexican Food restaurant is back in business!!! Just across the street from the original location off Nacogdoches Rd in Carousel Court — now with an outdoor patio! Many of the long time staff have returned to serve and of course the ownership hasn’t changed after 38 years!
