The best damned locks in the city! These locks take those River Taxis up or down like 12′ from one level of the river to another! Amazing! It takes a few minutes for the water levels to change, but if you were in a rush, you probably wouldn’t be on a boat in the first place. The locks are manned by a park ranger or something. They don’t like it when you try to drop rubber duckies on the boat in the lock, so watch out! If you get bored here, the Brooklynite is right next door. Plus, this is one of the few places I know on the Museum North Project that has a public restroom. If you have to go, please don’t go in the locks. Use the pubic restroom.

When the Riverwalk was expanded with the Museum Reach it was necessary to add this Lock and Dam System so the Rio River Taxis could travel between downtown and the Pearl Brewery Complex. This is required because of a 9 foot difference in the elevation of the river. This is like our own little Panama Canal. It is enjoyable to just sit and watch the barges go through. There is a walkway so you can watch from above. Or to really experience jump on a taxi and sail through. A fun, unique place to visit.
