I ordered the tortilla soup without the tortilla. The portion size was very large for the price. Plenty of shredded chicken to make this an entrée. The taste was good, but not amazing. The service was pretty good. Mariachi band was playing which made the evening pretty nice.

this was the first time I had ever been, after hearing about it for years! I’m from a border town and know what good Mexican food is, and los barrios is amazing!

Came in for lunch while I was in town. I was with a group of coworkers and we sat down immediately. We made reservations beforehand. The people who work here are so cool and friendly. The manager came by and talked with us. He is a cool guy. Then another manager(female) came by to check in to see if we ordered our food yet. I ordered the Louie’s plate for lunch. The food was good. The stuffed burrito was so good. Crisp and not soggy! Loved it! I only gave this place three stars because I had a wonderful experience and will need to come back again to try more.

I’ve been coming to Los Barrios for three decades – since I was a boy. Back then I would order a cheese enchilada plate and a coke. Today, I order a cheese enchilada plate and a margarita. I don’t live in Texas anymore but when I come home, I always make sure to get some Los Barrios. Where I live now, restaurants are always trying to dress up «Tex-Mex into something it’s not. The original got it right. There’s no reason to change and there no improvements to be made. There’s something to be said for tradition – tastes, atmosphere and friendliness that stays the same for decades. We sit around the table as a family and enjoy a familiarity that now goes back for multiple generations to when Los Barrios was just a fraction of its current size. I’m sure countless San Antonio families can relate. It is truly special. This is a special place. Thanks for doing what you do. See y’all next time.

I love Los Barrios! I’ve been coming here since I was a kid. I was in town over the long weekend and I had some enchiladas with beans and rice. Super yummy! Their portions are definitely smaller than what they used to be, but I think that’s a good thing so you don’t completely gorge yourself lol. Ask for the olive oil and parsley sauce to have with your chips and salsas!!! Seriously, it’s so good. It’s a little Italian flair. They used to keep this concoction just out on the tables, but you have to ask for it now. Margaritas are STRONG. Seriously, I just had the house margarita and it kinda put me on my butt. I’m not sure if it was because I was dehydrated from being on a plane for 4 hours, but it was delicious and strong nonetheless :) They take reservations, so call ahead on the weekends! It can get really busy really fast.

Bland food with small portions and high prices compared to similar restaurants. Food was all over the floor. Everything on the table was sticky. Tortillas seemed like they were from the microwave. We asked for crispy ones and the watress said the ones we had were fresh and never brought more. Rice had no flavor and was over cooked. Cabrito was the one exception. It was good.

While the serving size was huge the price did not equate. I went in on a Thursday night, the place wasn’t crowded I got seated immediately. I was given I small bowl of chips and salsa. I order the milanesa it came with sliced potatoes, rice, lettuce, tomato slices and a very decent portion of avocado. The food was good but not great definitely not worth the price.

My wife read about this place in a magazine. The night I went it was pretty busy but the waiter was great. The puffy tacos were my favorite.

This is a TEX-MEX restaurant. The service, chips and salsa were great! The carne guisada was ok, but the beef fajitas had too much seasoning… :(

This place sucks! IDK how it has stayed in business so long or why they have so many rave reviews… I think they gave me a frozen burrito on a plate… on the menu there are no real descriptions of what the food is. When I asked what stuff burrito was our waitress could not explain. I just would skip this place and go to any of the Mexican food places around. Oh and they’ll charge you .25 cents not to put chicken on your enchilada… Hmmm that’s a first for me

Came here for the puffy tacos cause that’s what they’re known for, right? I only ordered 2 beef puffy tacos with a side of guac. It was very greasy, and I honestly didn’t care for the ground beef. I was expecting or envisioning something more, but I just didn’t get it. My husband’s enchiladas verde was a little salty, but I thought it tasted better than my tacos.

Used to pass this on the way to work. Didn’t look that exciting from street view. But one night me and my husband were in the mood for something new so I suggested this place. I am so glad I did! Amazing chips and salsa to start. My picky husband loved the cheese enchilada plate. I had their award winning puffy tacos and steak fajitas. the steak was soo succulent. We go here all the time now. Try it and you too will come back for more.

Los B has been a family tradition since before I was born. So, I’m a little biased. The puffy tacos are awesome and I love their salsa. Can’t pass up good & cheap frozen margaritas either! Don’t expect gourmet, this is a standard Tex-Mex restaurant with all the classic menu options. Update: changing my score to 5 stars based on the awesome customer service this place has! Now, if we could just get them to add my husband’s fried egg to the menu — «The Juan»!! ;)

I was in San Antonio and visiting relatives and bringing my Nana’s cremains back to Texas for burial. Of course I HAVE to get puffy tacos! What visit is complete without having a tradition of my hometown? On our last night in town, we were meeting my 93 year old Godfather for dinner. Whatever a 93 year old man wants, he gets. He too wanted puffy tacos so we went to his favorite spot, Las Barrios. We were a party of ten and we decided to keep the waiter on his toes by constantly changing seats to visit with one another. He handled this with proper aplomb. My puffy taco plate consisted of a beef taco and a guacamole taco. While the beef was good, the guac taco stole the show! It was utterly fantastic! The sides, while fabulous, would just take up space that I wanted to fill completely with the guac taco. It was magnificent! Mama and I agreed that on our next Texas road trip we would get two guacamole puffy tacos. Simple perfection in their simplicity and tasted like home. We had some at our table who had not visited San Antonio before. On their behalf(*ahem*) I ordered a side of four tamales without chile con carne. Again, you can take the girl out of Texas, but you CANNOT take the Texas outta the girl! The tamales hit the spot. They were thin with a good ratio of pork to masa. In hindsight, I should not have shared because I could easily have polished off all four of them. I may have paid later, but it would have been okay during the actually noshing… The house frozen margarita was good too. I could taste the lime and tequila which is important in my book. Another highlight of the evening was that Diana Barrios Trevino was present to sign my Los Barrios cookbook. Turns out her son and my cousin’s son go to high school together and she went to high school with said cousin’s wife… Small world… My small world… We did toast Nana with our puffy tacos because that is what she would have ordered too.

Here for a 40th birthday with 35 friends. They only put one waiter for us. Long wait for cold food. Also the restaurant closed before the food was brought out. Do not recommended

Great, but not the best in San Antonio. Went here hearing the puffy tacos were the best in San Antonio. While it was a great for standard mexican, the puffy tacos were not nearly as good as others(i.e. Henry’s).

Great Service Mrs. Barrios. Great Chips and Salsa(although salsa not spicy at all) Rice and Beans Bland with no Bacon Flavor You are welcomed by everyone as you walk in. I wanted continental Mexican cuisine, and that is a big part of the menu here. They are trying to highlight the best cuisines of many different states of Mexico. I found the prices to be pretty high with puffy tacos a la cart at almost $ 4, most Tex Mex combos at $ 10, and all their signature and continental dishes at about $ 18. I got steak tampiqueno with one chicken enchilada in green tomatillo sauce with rice and beans for $ 17.99. This same dish at the Adobe café in New Braunfels is $ 13.99, and their steak is an 8oz «Certified Angus» steak and tender as all hell. The quality of this steak was questionable and chewy. The appetizer bean and cheese nachos were delicious; though, at $ 9.99 for 12, that’s almost a dollar a nacho. eats: — Steak Tamiqueno covered in a spicy ranchero sauce and paired with a delicious chicken enchilada verde in tomatillo sauce with rice and beans and an avocado salad. — Their house shredded chicken is a mix of dark and light meat and is generally bland and unseasoned and watery, but rolled in a fresh made corn tortilla and topped with a tart tomatillo sauce, their enchilada was killer. This same bland chicken on their famous puffy tacos were also watery and bland because there is no other sauce on it to flavor that chicken. I would get the beef puffy taco if I were you. — the ranchero sauce on my steak was one of the most flavorful sauces I have ever had. It was a deep, well stewed sauce of oregano, gujillo peppers, tomatoes, and maybe basil. The steak was marinaded and grilled with a char to the medium well I asked for. The steak was juicy though chewy in places and was certainly not Angus. I want to try their mole sauces next. Although, the rice and beans were bland, the prices are high, and the chicken can be bland by itself– These People Know Sauces, and They Know Them Well. crumbs: — do not leave valuables in your car; there are reminders everywhere — I still don’t know what chimichiri sauce tastes good on. I eat it with a spoon. I’ll bet toasted crostinis would be good. — their other restaurant, Hacienda de los Barrios at 281 and 1604 has the same menu. — got numerous refills on Big Red — specials all though the week(i.e fajitas for 2 – $ 13.95 Tuesdays).

We showed up 13 of us to celebrate my sisters 55th birthday. It was a little chaotic on our side as we can never all get together at the same time. Always waiting for someone. We are all finally there and our server Samuel takes our orders. The man has the patience of Job. Some of my relatives are a bit diva-like and like to demand things. Samuel took it all in stride. The food was pretty good. We ordered stuff like enchiladas, gorditas, quesadillas, fajitas and yes, a cheeseburger. It is your basic Tex-Mex fare. Samuel was the standout of the meal. As I said very patient and attentive. There with more water, tea and lemonade when you needed it. Thanks Samuel for making the birthday day nice.
