Our waitress was busy talking to a friend at the front door. We had to take silverware off of other tables because she didn’t bring us any. Our food was meh. We were seated on the dance floor and in the middle of our meal, they started blaring music — so we had to shout at each other. We had to go pull the waitress away from her friend to get our check. Spoke to the manager who offered us drinks if we came back the next day. We told him no thanks — we won’t be coming back.

Very nice waitress. Sat on the patio, ducks would jump up on the patio’s ledge in hopes of food scraps. My chicken fried chicken meal was good, as was my husband’s chicken fried steak meal, and the potato skin appetizer. He ordered their«River Water» mixed drink, and it was tasty. We’d go back for the good service and view.

Wow what a disappointment!!! This place relies completely on location to do business. If you are going here for food go somewhere else. Food was okay service was poor! My boss ordered a burger and they served it to her with remnants of someone’s last meal of Mac and cheese on it. Gross right? Also for some reason there was an ice cube on her lettuce??? The manager came by and asked how things were and at first she said okay but decided to mention the problems and he just said okay and walked off. I will never be back here. I see two star ratings they don’t deserve them.

This place smells mouth watering when you walk by so we could not resist stopping by for lunch. Service was friendly, attentive, and quick. You have the option to sit on the Riverwalk, inside, or on the covered patio. We chose the latter and enjoyed the wonderful view and air-conditioning. Canned beer comes with a complementary koozie or at least Lonestar does and don’t forget you can take your drink to go. We started with the Texas Teasers(fried onions and friend jalapeño) that were fried well and pretty good. I enjoyed my cheeseburger with a substitution of sweet potato fries(nothing to write home about). We had difference of opinion at our table about the seasoning of meat and though I prefer my burger more on the medium side(well done despite what is stated), I found it overall to be a decent burger The chili burger was more of a disappointment with merely a smear of chili. Don’t rule out this place, but don’t set your hopes to high either. 3 stars for food and 4 stars for atmosphere/décor/location/service.

The food was just ok. I had the chicken fried steak which was average and slightly overcooked. My husband has the beef fajitas which was better but hardly any beef for the money. What got me was the food under the table next to ours and on the chairs. We went for lunch so the place was not open long. Maybe I’m just being picky about the cleanliness of a restaurant I eat in. On a brighter note, the server was very nice and polite. We probably won’t be back though.

Hmm chicken was great … Not to fond of the beans .I think I finished my meal within 15 min, I was starving. Drinks were tasty, the tequila shot was very smooth. Give the bartender credit for the recommendation. I would go back but the next time I will get a steak … A big steak

Strolled in hungry from walking all day and since there was no wait and I decided to go for it. Location is superb but restaurant décor was cheesy, dated, and dark. Waitress was very nice and did a great job. The menu didn’t look very appealing so I played it safe with a cheese burger. I was pleasantly surprised as the burger was very good(juicy and thick) and I had no complaints. 3 star review is primarily for restaurant décor and atmosphere and menu options.

The server was great, prompt and made sure our drinks were taken care of. I ordered the big texas(chili cheese burger) and my cousin ordered the Japanese burger. Cooked to perfection. We were a part of 4 couples. They were cool enough to split the bill, no worries. Very easy and great southern saloon atmosphere.

I would have given this place a zero, but the one star is for the waitress who did a great job. I am not a picky eater, but the food here was that bad. I ordered an akaushi burger that contains beef that is only raised in Japan and Yoakam, Tx. It is guarded by the Texas Rangers. They can stop guarding it, because it tastes like hospital food. My wife ordered a regular bacon burger and hers was gross too. Both of our fries were soggy and bland. Our chili con queso appetizer… you guessed it. Bland! We were drinking too! Food always taste better when you’re drinking. Not this food. With so many different restaurant choices on the Riverwalk, you can do way better!

What a tourist trap. So, if you get space on the river walk… throw out some Texas décor, play country music, dress your waiters in stupid cowboy hats and sheriff badges then you can sell crappy food at an even crappier price. We popped into this place because it looked cool and somewhat interesting at first and it was less crowded than other places… that should have been a warning sign. Unilocal was down so we didn’t have heads up on how bad this place was going to be. We intended to gett an app and split an entrée. What we got you could find in the frozen food section of most discount grocery stores. The waiter was too busy trying to impress a table of drunk girls to pay any attention to our table so we left with out ordering dinner.

So disappointed about this place! The price and the food quality don’t go together! We picked this place based on the name but all they sold was mainly Mexican food… it was nice sitting there outside next to the river but everything else was horrible! Thought it would be good cuz the riverwalk. Was gonna check Unilocal before coming here but the place was too crowded internet didn’t work…

First night in San Antonio and our group was strolling the River Walk. We knew we would be having Tex Mex for dinner the next night so we wanted something different. We were able to get a table right on the water at 6:30 on a Sunday night. Great view and great people watching. Our server was attentive. I had a Lonestar beer and we ordered Chili Con Queso to start. The dip arrived quickly and was a generous portion of delicious cheesiness and chips. I ordered the Chopped BBQ sandwich. This was really disappointing. It was like a sloppy joe but with bbq instead of ground beef. The sauce was like bbq sauce mixed with gravy. Just not my favorite. The sweet potato fries were good. The location and the service both met our needs, I would just avoid the chopped BBQ sandwich if I went again.

Just horrible! I wasted my time and money eating here, so I won’t waste time on a thorough review. DONOTEATHERE.

The beer was cold… otherwise there is nothing special about this place. Typical tourist track on the Riverwalk. The enchilada dinner was flavorless and underwhelming. You might stop on to drink but I would not recommend ordering any food.

I’m new to reviewing things so bear with me if I do it wrong. We just happened upon Republic of Texas while strolling the Riverwalk with 3 hungry kids this past weekend when nobody could decide where they wanted to go. First, let me say that the staff was all very friendly and our server, Daniel, was nothing short of amazing. If I could rate only him I’d probably give him 5 stars. Sweet teas for most of us, a tad sweet even for Texas sweet tea, but still good, were never once allowed to get even halfway empty before he was topping them off! He even checked the two little ones drinks to see if they needed refilling, which nobody ever seems to bother doing for us. He checked on us several times to see if we needed anything else and was just really the epitome of great customer service! As for the interior of the place, it’s sort of on the dark side, but unless you’re like my husband and want a spotlight on your food so you can see it, it’s no big deal. Everything appeared clean, including the restrooms. There is outdoor seating, as well as indoor seating, and a bar area and inside was nice and cool after being in that hot, summer San Antonio sun all morning. Now for the important part, the food! Unfortunately the food is what brought Daniel’s 5 stars down to 3. Chips and queso were the usual fare you can get anywhere in Texas. Nothing to get too excited about, just liquid cheese and tortilla chips. The Alamo Bites were quite good, although not spicy as their description states. For lunch I ordered the Chopped BBQ sandwich and fries, which was unfortunately bland and lacking any BBQ flavor whatsoever. I wouldn’t exactly call it chopped either, more like minced to death in a food processor. The fries needed salt, but were alright. They’re delicious if you dip them in the queso! My daughter ate the Bison burger, which she said was overall just«meh» and lacked flavor. Hubby also concocted his own weird Bison burger combination with mushrooms, swiss, and some chili and cheese addition after perusing the menu and seeing multiple burgers he wanted, but couldn’t decide on any one. Again, he said it was bland, which says a lot when you have all that extra stuff on it and it still has no flavor. He also mentioned it was on the fatty side. He didn’t even eat half of it. However, it was nice that they humored him and made him that mess of a burger in the first place! The other 2 had the kid’s corn dog meal and chicken strip meal. It’s kind of hard to mess that up, but I did notice that my little guy’s chicken strips were quite greasy with some what soggy breading and he didn’t eat them. The corn dog was just your basic generic corn dog… can’t really do much with that. All in all, I don’t know that we’d go back, other than maybe for an appetizer snack of Alamo Bites and only if Daniel was our waiter again!

Very disappointing meal. Blah snapper, salad arrived after meal, without dressing requested until I asked twice. Lack of line should have been clue this wasn’t worth it in spite of my river front seat.

My friend and I picked this place solely based on the name — mistake. Should have consulted Unilocal before sitting down here. I mean it’s nice to sit along the river(location = +1 star), but there are dozens of other options… Service and staff were actually great — very friendly and polite.(service = +1 star) Margarita tasted not very strong and not very special. Menu seemed big at first but then none of the options sounded too compelling — ended up with the Chicken Picante(which the server recommended). The chicken was rubbery and the homemade ranchero sauce was like, nowhere to be found. There was some pico de gallo under the melted cheese, but that was it — I was confused, but hungry, so I ate it. I don’t remember the exact price but remember feeling like I wasted the money — somewhere between $ 12 – 15. Sad day.

Worst«steak» I have ever had. Mojito tasted like chemicals. Location is decent, although if you’re a party of four and you would like to sit outside along the river you will be sharing a table of eight with another party– and have about 1.5 inches of space to wrestle your way into your seat without 1) hitting the person behind you or 2) falling into the river. I realize I should have had low expectations based on the women shilling at the front door. I imagine with all of the conference business they get it doesn’t matter what rating I give… but I hope I can save even one visitor the trouble.

This was one of the few places still open late on the Riverwalk. I knew, for the most part, that it would suck. Why? Because tourist destinations like this usually do. Think Pier 39/the Wharf. Even though I knew better, I ordered a Margarita — the 22oz. It came, with virtually no tequila in it whatsoever. On the flip side, I ordered the Kabaushi meat burger, adding bacon and cheese. Even though it was a touch salty, I really liked it. I wish I could say that was the first and last time that I dined on the Riverwalk. Damned convention parties…

Gag, gag, gag, even the giant rita was tasteless. Ordered nachos, had to send them back, ate here just because the 1 hour wait everywhere else forced us to this place. There was a ceiling fan in between the tables –tables were wedged into the sidewalk so tightly that every baby stroller and numerous butts and guts were consistently banging into us. Would have gone for the dessert if the appetizer had not been so unappetizing. Wait staff were sweaty and kind.
