The food is so good. Love the jackfruit street tacos! And the corn fritters! Just went for jazz brunch. Food was on point! Jazz band was great! Service was fast and awesome.

Heard about this spot from San Antonio Magazine and was intrigued by their all vegetarian menu. It’s in a good spot, had parking when I visited, and it was very vibrant and clean inside. Taking the SA Mag’s columnists advice I tried the Karma Bowl which was packed with various sources of protein, sprouts, rice and a delicious sauce that really made it taste just right. My hubby did not like his order however. I wish I could remember what he tried, but it didn’t end up mattering. They kindly let him choose something else off the menu since he didn’t like it(way to go customer service!) but he didn’t end up liking that either. I tried both dishes and felt it is what most people fear when they think of vegetarian meals-a little mushy and so many spices to add flavor. Many people love the dishes at Señor Veggie and maybe it’s just that my husband and I are picky eaters. But for us, the Karma Bowl was really the only thing worth getting here. One other note is they do have live music and artists there sometimes so if you are looking for a venue like that, this is a good place to visit. Adiós Señor Veggie! I’m off to Green!

By far my favorite spot in San Antonio. I bring family who visit here every time. Ive tried several different appetizers and main dishes and have never been disappointed. The Beet Burger is by far my favorite! And their chips and salsa is some of the best I’ve had.(And that’s saying a lot for a city full of Mexican food). The staff is friendly and patient, the food comes out quickly, the portions are huge, and the quality has always been top notch!

The last two times we’ve eaten here we have been VERY underwhelmed. The food was not prepared well and I left feeling the dishes lacked the depth of flavor and ingredient quality I at least thought I’d seen the first few times here. On our last visit, the kitchen unexpectedly closed very early — like several hours early. I ordered soup and my boyfriend ordered chili, thinking they’d come quickly. It was well over 30 minutes before our food arrived. At that time our server brought out sweet potato fries instead of regular fries, because the kitchen was out of potatoes — unfortunately my boyfriend hates sweet potatoes and I knew wouldn’t eat it. Given we had to wait so long for our food, I don’t know why we weren’t notified of that earlier. Thankfully the server took it off the bill. I received the green(tomatillo-based) pozole and found it watery and lacking seasoning — disappointing given the traditional richness of this dish. After eating, we waited 10 minutes for our server to return. When she brought the bill she also brought the plate of tempeh I’d ordered and never received. We had long finished our food and were ready to go. I expressed that I no longer wanted it. It was also taken off our bill. This was obviously a very off night and I imagine there are good reasons for why it was such a disappointing experience. However, I’d also had a meh experience a couple months previous, so I wanted to update my earlier enthusiastic review. I still think that on menu their dishes balance heavy/rich and fresh/green better than other restaurants. I also really like their commitment to being vegan, the friendliness(though not always professionalness) of their staff, and the reasonableness of their prices(though the latter might impact the quality of their ingredients…). However, with really stellar veg options around that(I think) take a more sophisticated and nuanced approach to flavors, and which work with better quality food, Señor Veggie is going to have to step up their game to get me back.

Highly recommend this darling place if you’re hungry for some real goodness! First visit had us just trying a few things before a Spurs game, and boy oh boy… we left fully satisfied and ready for a win! Must try: Corn Fritters, and Spinach Artichoke Dip served with very nice bread featuring a delightful crunch. Then the Beet Burger… niiiiice! Not too crazy about the Sweet Potato Fries, but everything else made it a 5-star!!! #GoSpursGo

Aaaaahmazing. What a treasure to find this place in downtown San Antonio while here on business. Everything was so flavorful and had a deeply diverse range of textures and ingredients that fed us so well I didn’t want to be full! We inhaled the artichoke dip to start and then devoured the street tacos and barbecue. The sweet potato fries were delicious, as well. I didn’t care so much for the lime carrots, but compared the intense flavors of everything else the carrots didn’t stand a chance. Sorry carrots. I highly recommend. Even for meat eaters this place is plenty equipped to satisfy every appetite!

I was visiting San Antonio for work and was thrilled to find this place. I feel like a child in a candy shop when I find a restaurant where I can eat more than the house salad. Holy guacamole, the flavors were great! I had the street tacos, which are layered with cashew cream atop sautéed onions/peppers atop pulled jackfruit atop cabbage slaw. The cashew cream I ate with my fingers because it was so well balanced and delicious. Better than any dairy business, I tell you. On the side I had«southwest veggies», which was a cup of zucchini with poblanos and corn in an enchilada-type sauce. Pretty good. Although I did not order dessert, the front desk area had some great-looking sweet potato empanadas, maple cream cupcakes, and thin mints. The music was awesome and funky. I like the photography on the walls as well. There is a lot of cultural pride there.

I am in LOVE with this place. After our coffee run at Revolucion we decided to sit and eat before our drive. They had just opened like one min before we walked in. We were greeted and seated. We ordered: Veggie Nachos — for $ 10 this plate is HUGE. The chips are flavorful. The beans were DELICIOUS as well as the cashew cream cheese. Everything about this dish was perfect. the perfect amount of flavor, ingredients, and how much they give you. Señor Veggie Bean Burger with sweet potato fries and curry ketchup — I enjoyed the burger, it was fresh and flavorful. The sweet potato fries were on the soft side but I enjoyed them as well. The curry ketchup was not my favorite. They had just made it so it was warm, which is not a big deal but it was more like a chutney-ish sort of dipping sauce and not very creamy. Also, I couldn’t really taste the curry so, I wasn’t a fan but to me, that’s not a big deal. Jackfruit Tacos and Lentil soup — I’ve always been curious about trying Jack Fruit Tacos. I see they look like shredded meat so I wanted to try them. The consistency is nothing like shredded meat, it just looks like it. The tacos were flavorful and the tortillas were completely full with ingredients. He enjoyed them. I have to say that we both agreed that we didn’t care for the lentil soup. Like, it was missing something?.. Garlic? Smoked Paprika? Something! I also got the Vegan Lavender Cupcake and that was bomb! Super moist and sweet and flavorful. Everyone is here is dope. Super nice and upbeat and the music was on point too. I love this place and if I were ever back in San Antonio, I’d be here all of the time!

Can I just say it doesn’t get better than this?!? Being vegan and temporarily moving to San Antonio, I had zero expectations on the handful of vegetarian/vegan restaurants this city had to offer. I found out about Señor Veggies thanks to you Unilocalers out there and I’m glad to have given it a try. I mean, I’ve tried my fair share of vegan places before, from Miami, San Francisco, New York City and even New Orleans but this place has a very homemade take on it that anyone would like. Between my aunts and I, we tried the empanadas, street tacos and eggplant torta(or something like that). The plates are generously big to fill you up completely, it is reasonably priced for their size and quality, the food is fresh, seasoned perfectly(nothing overwhelming) and absolutely delicious. I will sure be coming back to try their nachos and eat empanadas like there’s no tomorrow, like seriously… You must try the empanadas!

My husband and I dined here one evening during our stay in S.A.; I got the Herbed Falafel plate and he got the Samosa plate(which as of this review is not on their current menu). The falafels were amazing, the dolmas were super flavorful – but the Samosa plate was the real winner. The sheer flavor in the butternut squash(I think it was) and garbanzo portions were astounding. We were still talking about it later that night – and even days later. I would love if there was a place like this in Houston, so if you are in San Antonio you guys are lucky as hell. If you visit S.A., this is a definite MUST to stop in and have a meal. They also have beer on tap.

Oh my gosh! This place is my new jam. I stopped by yesterday with my mother in law. She has a diet that can sometimes be difficult to accommodate– gluten free, vegetarian, and dairy free. So this was the perfect stop for us! She has a big plate of hummus with fresh cucumber and carrot slices and a side of the veggie of the day: green beans. The hummus was really unique, made with fava beans instead of your traditional chickpeas. I opted for the Azteca bowl and I will be back for this dish! Brown rice, black beans, grilled tofu, cabbage slaw, guacamole and I topped it all off with the poblano cashew crema. It was so rich, so delish, AND I had a full helping leftover. The ambiance was awesome with big bright windows and a nice sized patio out front. Southtown is a bit of a trip for me but Señor Veggie is well worth the drive!

Okay let’s see… I’m just going to jump into this review with a pros/cons list. Let’s go! Pros: –Great customer service –Good amount of vegetarian selections –They have beer and wine! Cons: –the food. I got the Good Karma Bowl, and for me the flavors just weren’t right. –Hubby got the Chopped BBQ Sandwich. The seitan was super chewy and a very strange gooey consistency. We wouldn’t even finish half the sandwich. –Neighborhood is kind of sketch with not a lot of parking. –Ketchup is not normal ketchup, seemed more like tomato paste. Kind of seemed like they just put tomatoes in a food processor(but at least you know it’s fresh?), I just wasn’t feeling it. Overall worth a try if you are vegetarian or just trying to eat less meat. Besides the customer service I don’t see myself coming back.

I’m always trying to find delicious vegan options regardless of being in a State & City known for meat. I mean c’mon, this is Texas for crying out loud! Do vegans actually exist here? Well, apparently they do! Señor Veggie was first on my list of must try San Antonio vegan spots. Being that I’ve been trying to integrate more vegan lifestyle choices, you can imagine how excited I was to get my veg on. I’m glad my buddy Mathew M is always game to indulge a vegan meal every so often. A few thoughts about this space. They offer limited parking behind their restaurant and thankfully, we were fortunate to score one. We were a little confused entering but someone greeted us quick and seated us at a table for four. It was early dinner hour so they were barely beginning to get busy. Our server was accommodation and patient. He didn’t rush our decision which I really appreciated. He offered suggestions and provided insight to dishes we contemplated/ordered. He expressed that portions were on the larger side but since we were super hungry, we ordered two appetizers to start and an entrée each. Poblano Corn Fritters($ 7.00): 3.5÷5 If you want to get full but don’t want to spend a fortune, order some of these fritters. They’re highly dense and they don’t skimp! I enjoyed their corny flavor but found these to be a bit greasier than my preference. Be advised to apply the accompanying chipotle mayo. Southwestern Empanadas($ 8.00): 4⁄5 Although a little bit on the greasy side, I actually enjoyed this appetizer more than those fritters. Best enjoyed when applying guacamole and salsa, which I feel should have been a little more plentiful. Pico de gallo was avoided. Veggie Street Tacos($ 10.00): 4⁄5 You had me at «jackfruit carnitas»! Each generously piled taco satisfied my vegan cravings more than satisfactorily, however, I probably could have done without bell pepper as I feel they didn’t really contribute much more flavor depth. But they did do a fine job adding flavor to their jackfruit. Brussels Sprouts(Side Dish for Veggie Street Tacos): 5⁄5 I’m sure glad my palate can truly appreciate the taste of Brussels sprouts. Señor Veggie’s sprouts were ideally prepared. Not once did I struggle chewing these, and that’s not because they were overcooked. These were simply delicious and I wouldn’t hesitate ordering again, My choice of beverage was Topo Chico and because San Antonio was blazing hot, I drank three bottles. I didn’t realize until we left that our server only charged for two bottles so we came back and paid for the third. The dude working register was spaced out or something. He didn’t understand that I wanted to pay for the bottle not on our bill. He kept thinking I wanted to buy a bottle to go?! It was a little frustrating but finally after about four times telling him my intentions, he understood. Haha. I wouldn’t mind coming back to Señor Veggie if I’m in the area to try something different but I think I might forego this place in favor of going to my new favorite vegan/vegetarian spot in San Antonio. Curious to know what it is? Review to follow.

Outstanding food and service for a great price. I’m not a vegetarian or vegan(went to Cured last night) but I was looking for a healthy place to eat lunch downtown and found this gem. I had the veggie burger with lentil soup as the side and was very pleased with each one. Lots of flavor, fresh ingredients and prompt service. While I didn’t have anything to drink, I noticed they had a nice selection of local beer and wine for very reasonable prices. I can’t wait to go back and explore the rest of the menu.

While the food and service I received were wonderful, what I really want to tell you about are the LAVENDERCUPCAKES! WOW! If I could only eat one dessert in the world for the rest of my life I would choose this cupcake! The frosting was the perfect balance of sugary and light! The cupcake was MOIST and dense and heavenly to bite into! It didn’t make crumbs because it was THAT moist! I seriously considered walking back in the restaurant to buy more(because I only got one) but was too embarrassed to be thought of as an oinker. But mark my words, the next time I’m driving through San Antonio, Texas, I will be eating here and buying about six of these marvelous cupcakes TOGO! So what I’m saying is BUYTHECUPCAKES!

I was in San Antonio for 4 nights and came here twice, so that definitely says something. I’m not a vegetarian, but have been before, and the choices(on choices on choices) at Señor Veggie are hands down some of the best I’ve seen.(Also, I’m from LA where veggie culture is downright pervasive, so my high praise definitely counts for a bit more than an average vote, I think :).) I was in town for a conference and hung out with a few attendees who were vegan/vegetarians, so we did a quick Unilocal search to find this nearby gem. From the drinks list(so cheap!) to the food menu(still so cheap! and marvelously delicious!) to the dessert options on the way out(omg yum.), it did not disappoint. I came with a group of 6 and then a group of 4, and neither night was there a wait(Saturday and Tuesday), and the place is very accommodating for larger parties. The first night I got the Po Boy, which the waitress rightly described as on the spicier side. I tried the chili as my side(YUMMMM) but got to partake of my friend’s waffle fries and their homemade ketchup which is the bomb. Night two had me ordering the jackfruit Street Tacos(and again, chili as my side because yessssss), which were super popular and rightfully so. The flavors were amazing and I scarfed them down in a matter of minutes. On night one(a Saturday), we lucked out and had some live music(ukulele man, you were fantastic!), but the ambiance and general demeanor of Sr. Veggie was awesome both times I was there. Super friendly staff who are very knowledgeable about their menu and chefs. A+ would come again!

This place is great!!! Has to be one of my most favorite restaurants in San Antonio! The staff is wonderful and I love everything I have ever tried here! For an appetizer choose the hummus! You can have it with pita bread or veggies or ½ and ½! Your choice! The chalupas are amazing! And are always brought out prefect! The chocolate chip cookies are out of this world! They are closed Sun and Mondays. So make sure you’re ready for an awesome Tuesday lunch or dinner when visiting here! Honestly the food is here every day of the week! The staff always goes out of their way to accommodate you! I would give this place 8 thumbs up if I was an octopus! Lol! Enjoy!

I came today for lunch. I ordered at straight up 12:00 noon. There were 2 other tables seated and already had been served. I really enjoyed the music and atmosphere on this beautiful day. I ordered the street tacos because I have been wanting to try jackfruit as a meat substitute. I also had a cup of butternut squash soup. It only took 12 minutes for my plate to be served. Let me say, it is worth coming here for the butternut squash soup alone. It was so good. The street tacos were good as well. I enjoyed the slaw on the tacos. The only downside is: I wish the waiter was knowledgeable on the ingredients in the dish besides saying«Everything is vegan». I was interested in sugar and oil in the dishes, but didn’t find out. I can’t wait to come back and try something else.

My previous experience was lacking for me, though my meat eating friend liked his food. Came back today because i had a craving of tacos past«breakfast» hours and was not willing to settle for taco bell. Happened to be downtown delivering other people’s food for lunch and saw a review for this place mentioned street tacos. Sold. Waiter was nice, indulged my indecisive menu ordering process, playfully bantered, and i never felt uncomfortable like i was being hit on(girls you know what I’m saying). Hot food was brought not ten minutes later. It was presented beautifully, the crema drizzled over top everything and with the sweet potatoes on the side I had a large sum of food. The corn tortillas are placed flat and Piled High with toppings, with 2 extra tortillas on the plate you essentially are getting 4 tacos and a side for $ 10(+$ 1 for sweet potatoes). They were much better than I anticipated, I’ll admit I worked over the menu worrying i might not like the tacos due to ingredients list. I’ve been vegetarian since before I hit double digits in age. Never really had experiences with a lot of common foods because they were meat or in restaurants served as a side for dishes that all contained meat. That being said, I’ve never had slaw I liked, and likely wouldn’t like this one if it hadn’t been a beautiful balancer for the other taco flavors. I eventually made a large enough mess I made a split taco so I wasn’t spilling filling everywhere with each bite. In doing so I was able to put some fries in the taco and it paired very well to give a little bit more salt to the flavor profile while balancing the bold flavors with the mellowness of sweet potato. The restrooms are as clean as the dining areas. The right door seems to stick at the top corner but easily jarred loose with a little shove. Kids might have trouble with this however. I love the quality soap, is so nice to have a nice hand washing experience after good food. I hate cheap soap that feels like slime and doesn’t give suds. On another unrelated note, this bathroom would be a great idea to incorporate into your zombie apocalypse plans. Small enough gap under door to shoot and aim through but not large enough to let anything in. Did that make me weird that I think these things? Lol Back to the review. To go I got a cookie and cupcake(ginger coconut), along with the cucumber mint agua fresca, after googling it of course. It was very light and refreshing on the palate, though they do Not sweeten theirs so you can guiltlessly enjoy what is essentially expensive cucumber water with mint like spas serve. Great way to round out all the sugar from my dessert. My overall total was a little over $ 21 with tip. «Aguas frescas are a combination of fruits, cereals, flowers, or seeds blended with sugar and water to make light non-alcoholic beverages. They are popular in Mexico, Central America, the Caribbean, and the United States. Wikipedia»

I didn’t like this place as much as I expected to. Menu recently changed and a lot of their better dishes were eliminated(eggplant torta, polenta bowl, roma bowl, etc.), which was disappointing. They also have an odd policy of ending takeout orders 15 minutes before closing time, but allowing dine-in business up until actual closing– seems backwards. With both of my go-to menu items out of the equation, I tried the Azteca Bowl at the server’s suggestion: black beans, brown rice, grilled tofu, guac, and pico. What I received was beautiful and healthy but didn’t match the description(no guac or even avocado, fresh tomatoes and a side of salsa but no pico, or onions, or peppers). The tofu had a nice grilled char to it but an unpleasant chemical taste to it(maybe the grill wasn’t cleaned?). The overall combination of flavors and textures was just okay, not the awesome experience in vegetarian dining that this spot is known for. The guy who helped me was very sweet and extremely apologetic about the takeout issues and menu cuts, seemed to be doing the best he could with some less-than-stellar business choices made higher up.

I have been following a mostly vegan/vegetarian diet for several Months now. Puh-lease– Don’t think I have shunned meat or meat products — I just indulge when I think it is worth it. Having said that I want my vegetarian/vegan food to be as flavorful as any meal(with or without meat) and there is no reason it shouldn’t be. My meat-loving/brisket smoking husband finally agreed to come eat here. I asked what kind of «aguas» they had that day & they say– cucumber mint or something. Uhmm– that’s not really an «agua” — not in the traditional mexican way. That’s stuff reminds me of what one can get at spas and stuff so I just stuck with plain olé water. We ordered the nachos. And by golly these were a substantial amount of food — we prob should have just eaten that but we were really hungry so we ended up ordering lots more. Tried the vegan chili– and that was disappointing. The cumin was so overpowering that one spoonful was more than enough –I felt heartburn would be inevitable so was not going to even try to eat it. Interestingly our server noticed that we didn’t even touch the chili abut did not bother to ask is there was something wrong. Tried the black beans and corn empanada but it was actually a bit sweeter than what I like so even though we split it — I couldn’t finish it. Tried the street tacos and well those were lacking flavor. This was served with the Pozole & I am a Pozole girl– love to make it, love to eat it. This Pozole lacked flavor and the green salsa was too tart and desperately needed seasoning. There is something lacking in presentation– with most of the dishes. Little things like tomatoes chopped in a consistent manner, small and — bell pepper sliced thin make a dish more appetizing. Big Chunks of tomato and bell pepper that overwhelm the taco does not make the meal memorable and it makes it difficult to eat as well. On my way out chose the almond joy donut — tasty but you could taste the oil and if it wasn’t fried I am not sure why it would have that taste. They do carry a couple of local beers but I did not see any other adult beverages. Parking is located in the back of the building — entrance/exit the same so it can prove to be a challenge. That was our experience.

Vegan restaurant in Southtown. When I heard it was opening, I was thrilled! Southtown is such a cool neighborhood and a good neighborhood for vegetarian and vegan food! The building is great — and the location is AWESOME. However, the food is very hit and miss. I’ve had things that were pretty good and things that were pretty terrible. Some items, like the poblano corn fritters, were great once and horrible on another visit(they came almost raw to our table once). The Azteca bowl and the mini chalupas are pretty good! I keep returning, because it’s still a new restaurant and I’m hoping that they’ll work out the kinks, hire some better or more consistent cooks and get things on track!

Señor Veggie is legit vegan eating. I had lunch here twice in the last week and would have gone every day(but didn’t want to be anti-social since I was in SA for work related training). My first visit I had the jackfruit street tacos with the daily veggies(roasted beets). There’s two corn tortillas piled high with diced jackfruit, cabbage, poco de gallo and the different flavors and textures mixed well together. The jackfruit because of its stringy texture looked almost like chicken breast chucks and wasn’t sweet the way you would expect it to taste. They’re definitely messy to eat but you just need to roll your sleeves up and dig in. Roasted beets were piping hot and a bit on the firm side. We were there with a group of 8 so service was so slow. We got there at 12:10p sat outside, took about 15 minutes before the server came to get our order, and by the time it came from out(took 20 – 40), we had to leave so we had to take everything to-go. And we had to individually pay at the register too which took another 10 minutes. On my second visit I came on my own and was in and out in 40 minutes. Granted the restaurant only had about 8 others patrons inside. I had the good karma bowl and this meal was AMAZING! It was beautifully plated and all the ingredients are things that I typically eat, but I would have never thought to eat them together. Red quinoa, black beans, jake, spinach, mushrooms, and tempeh, all topped with a carrot/daikon curly shredded garnish(I think it had pea shoots too). The hot/cold combination and simplicity of the ingredients made me feel like I was having a home cooked meal(which I had been craving since I had been traveling for 2 weeks). You will not go wrong with this bowl, so I would put it on your must try list!

My oh my, Señor Veggie. You got it goin’ on. With my vegetarian sister in town, I took the opportunity to try out all the veg options in San Antonio. This was our first truly vegan/vegetarian restaurant to go to, and I was super duper impressed. I cook mostly vegetarian meals at home, so it’s always nice to go to a place where they take veg to the next level. I love variety, bold flavors, and new ingredients that I’m too scared to try. This place filled all of those expectations for me. I ordered the Good Karma bowl(I’ve been obsessed with this«bowl» thing lately) which was presented beautifully. Kale, quinoa, black beans, tempeh, and mushrooms were all separated out within the bowl, each complementing the others wonderfully. I want to eat this bowl day and night. Mmmm. I actually just enjoyed some of the leftovers, and it was still just as yummy all mixed up and cold. My sis ordered the street tacos, which I’d heard about on Unilocal. They lived up to the hype, y’all, and man that jackfruit sure looks like meat! I don’t know how they do it, but whatev, it was delicious. Husband ordered a veggie burger with the lentil chili on the side and gave it a «solid four.» When we got there on a Thursday evening around 6:30, the place was empty, but I’m hoping that was just a fluke and the Fiesta events were drawing people away. It did fill up a bit while we were eating. The service was great, and the prices were very reasonable. My advice is to GOHERESOON. I think non-vegetarians/vegans can find something they love, while the vegans and vegetarians can swoon in a lovely heaven of a restaurant. (P.S. don’t forget your booze! They don’t serve any inside, but you’re welcome to bring outside beverages.)
