This place is worth hitting up… Since it is located at the Pearl, the ambiance and scenery are definitely nice to have… especially if its in a time where they get busy and you have to wait. Luckily we went right at opening and we were able to go right in. The place has a feel of a southern country bar with an industrial look since they have structures left behind from the original building. The service was great and our waiter was really good. He periodically checked up on us… but i wonder if that’s because we got there at opening and it didn’t even get busy yet. I wouldn’t consider this place a place to get a quick bite. The food was pretty good. I got the Southerleigh Fried Chicken. The chicken was moist and the breading was perfectly crispy. There was a gravy on top and it made it even more delicious. I got the mac and cheese to go with my meal and definitely went well with it. For those that have OCD about food touching, my meal all came on one plate with the chicken on top of the mac and cheese. I didn’t mind it since both combined tasted pretty darn good. We got the pork fat dinner roll but i didn’t think there was anything impressive about it. I’ve had better bread else where and to have to pay $ 5-$ 6 for it, i think i could have skipped it. We got the jalapeño corn bread and that was good in flavor but to dry for me. It pretty much crumbled when i picked it up.

My second time here. Food and drink are over the top. They really go out of there way to make you feel welcome. Great beer which they brew. Food is fresh and the atmosphere. Saul helped us out with everything, he really took care of us. Thanks so much.

My husband and I had an early Valentine’s dinner here and was completely blown away. We loved everything from the ambiance to the food and the impeccable service. Chicken cracklings, deviled eggs, the jalapeño cornbread and the crab mac & cheese were our starters. Everything arrived so quick and we devoured everything in less than 5 minutes(we were very very hungry). The half fried smothered chicken was our entrée and we shared it because the portion was good enough for two. This was another winner winner chicken dinner! I’m not usually a fan of chicken smothered in a ton of creamy sauce but this was done just right. We will be back all too soon!

The first time hubs and I came here was for our anniversary. We ordered chicken skin cracklins, deviled eggs, shrimp bisque, some sort of fish(fried snapper?) on étouffée, crab claws, and pecan crumb cake. Everything was plated beautifully. The cracklins, deviled eggs and bisque were quite good. But the rest of our meal was average. We came again for Restaurant Week, for a work function, & to use a gift card that a friend had given us. After all these visits, we’ve tried quite a few dishes. But very few were memorable. I’m bummed that the bisque is no longer on the menu. I hope the fried chicken with redeye gravy never goes away. Otherwise, I would have nothing to order for an entrée(unless the menu changes again). The steaks and seafood dishes I tried just didn’t do it for me. Guess I could make a meal out of cracklins, deviled eggs, pretzel, & ‘gator bites. I’d skip dessert here next time though. I’ve tried them all and haven’t been wowed by any of them. They aren’t bad. Just not as impressive as what nearby Bakery Lorraine or Supper has to offer. Service is always good. Beer and other alcoholic beverages are exceptional(according to my hubs & friends). Enough variety of food to choose from. I love the décor and location of the restaurant. So I’m sure that if someone were to suggest coming here again, I would come. But I wouldn’t suggest it myself.

My husband and I visit the Pearl Brewery Market as many Saturday’s a month as we possibly can to pick up fresh produce that I am not growing my own yard. We decided to eat lunch out and wanted to try Brunch at Southerleigh Fine Food and Brewery. The restaurant is attached by a hallway to the Hotel Emma. I love where their name came from; «Named for the prevailing Gulf Breeze and the Texas coast’s proud sense of place, Southerleigh.» What a treat we had on Saturday, January 23rd. The menu must change because it is dated«Brunch — Saturday, January 23rd.» I could not believe that I had left my phone at home by accident; I rarely do that. I could not check-in nor could I take some cool photos. I wish I had been more hungry when I arrived because there was so much on their menu that I really wanted to try. What I ordered was a cup of their Market Soup — Butternut Squash Chowder; oh my goodness… this was amazing with little chunks of sweet potato’s placed delicately on top of the soup as garnish. It was served in a uniquely shaped bowl. I also had the Berries and Cream; this was blueberries, raspberries, blackberries and sliced strawberries that surrounded a dollop of homemade whipped cream and was sprinkled with confectioner’s sugar. Such a simple dish made to look decadent and tasted wonderful. My husband tried their«3 Eggs Any Style, Red Potato, Has Browns Sausage or Bacon.» He opted for the sausage. He also tried a beer that was brewed in their Brewery. I love the décor; old industrial — very cool. I even loved their coffee. Our server was Calvin who was extremely busy, but still kept up with our questions and our small requests. Saul at the bar was helpful also in suggesting a beer for my husband. We are coming back on Tuesday for lunch to celebrate our bosses Birthday ~ I hope my co-workers are as pleased with this place as I was…

I originally started with 5 Stars. So far so good. Our server is on point. He is very helpful and attentive. All his suggestions have been spot on. Service is a big thing for me and they get an A+. I fully recommend this place for a classy date night. I am hesitant to call it a brewery but it is. I just don’t want my beer snobs to be disappointed. Not a ton of beer but, a small selection of well crafted brew. I enjoyed the ‘Texas Uncommon’. (Post Dinner Review) The food was great. We enjoyed our meals. Let’s move on to why I reduced my original 5 star review. I still rate this place at 4 stars because my gripes are not deal breakers… Issue 1: We had a table of 4 people. 2 of our meals came out about 10 minutes before the rest of the table. I am use to all plates coming out at the same time. So to avoid being rude and awkward we wait for the other peoples meals to come out. In the mean time my food is getting cold.(Still delicious cold, FYI.) Issue 2: My final issue was, the wait for our checks. We started to just walk out. We were looking around for our server but he was no where to be found. Other than this, our server was great.

After hearing about how awesome Southerleigh is I was super excited to try it and I’m so happy I did! Southerleigh is located in the Pearl near Boiler House and has a convenient parking garage within walking distance. The restaurant is located within a retrofitted building and they brew a wide selection of their own beer(with fun names like«Imperial Star Fleet» and«Get off my lawn»). I arrived with a group of six right before 2pm on a Saturday and found out that they actually open on 10am on Saturdays for brunch. The hostess seated us quickly and let us know that we would still be able to order from the brunch menu since we arrived before 2pm. Our server was friendly but seemed a bit frazzled when we asked her some questions about the oxtail hash. Nevertheless, she was efficient and made sure that we had everything we needed throughout our meal. The food took about 30 minutes to come out but the server explained that this was typical because the chefs make everything fresh. There is actually bar seating right in front of the kitchen(I’m talking close up — you will literally be sitting in front of a tub of fresh fish and crab legs), so if you want an up-close dining experience, I would request this area. Once our food arrived, everyone in our group was pleased with the food. The oxtail hash, and oyster po boys were both hits. In particular I LOVED my ham benedict, served on yummy jalapeño corn bread with awesome Crystal hot sauce hollondaise. The poached eggs were perfectly cooked and the potatoes that came with them were delicious. My boyfriend said his chili dog was just okay, but he did enjoy his michelada. The meal was pricey as can be expected for the Pearl but I look forward to trying this restaurant again. I definitely recommend it for brunch, just make sure that if you are a larger group that you are prepared to wait since the food does take some time to be prepared.

This 37th Birthday was one to really Celebrate as it was unseasonably warm and Sunny for a December 30th.(completely opposite from last year’s bipolar up and down weather) I put on my Birthday attire and had the pleasure of dining at Southerleighs located downtown in the historic Pearl Brewery. Residing within the enchanting Hotel Emma, Southerleighs was located next to the Restaurant Supper and also near the Bakery Lorraine, where I sampled and indulged on several Birthday treats. Southerleighs historic Décor was very rustic and showcased an open foyer decorated with fairytale Christmas trees and ornaments, exposed brick and metal pipes extending from the wall that added to the uniqueness of the hotel Emma. After strolling around the nearby eateries until Southerleighs opened at 1100, my Bestie and I settled into our seats and browsed the menu that showcased daily specials. The waitress was nice and told us that the pull apart rolls that I had requested were not on the menu today but pointed me toward some daily specials … The Meal: For my appetizer I ordered a dozen oysters and must say that I prefer them steamed but after dining here, I could enjoy them raw. While I do think they were on the pricey side, I decided to indulge as it was my Birthday. They were juicy, plump and served on top of a decorative tray of ice. The salty flavor reminded me of the beaches at home and within minutes I found myself flipping through my oyster shell graveyard. My entrée was just as flavorful and consisted of the most delicious macaroni and cheese infused with crabmeat alongside a spicy shrimp po boy. Everything I ate left me craving for more and I cannot wait to return to try out other entrees. I really enjoyed the ambience and the fact that arriving early afforded me the opportunity to park for free(impossible downtown) in a parking lot shared by Supper and Nao. I crave seafood and this meal provided me with the Seafood Fix that this South Carolinian/Birthday Girl needed. I Will definitely be returning ~ Ms. Foodie

Southerleigh is next to Hotel Emma in the Pearl District. I love watching this area grow as more restaurants, cafes and shops open up in the area. Southerleigh has a nice tap lineup of beers they brew in-house and serves up the chefs on take on modern Texas cuisine. The menu lists a beer recommendation for each of their dishes. We started off with the deviled eggs with bacon onion marmalade which had an interesting balance if savory and sweet. I was pleased with the Meiomi Pinot Noir and Jesse went with the Scurvy Free since ’83 brew. I ordered the glorious plate of the wood roasted beets served with turnips & a warm lemon-thyme goat cheese that was divine. This is the best beet dish I have tasted! Jesse had the chicken fried alligator which was tender and thankfully not too greasy. Next time I dine in I will definitely delve into the seafood part of the menu like the pan seared Gulf flounder, shrimp boil, stuffed crab and oysters. The restaurant is the perfect balance of fancy meets casual making it a comfortable place with top notch service, cuisine and libations.
