Unbelievable. Dr. Curtis was so professional, knowledgeable and caring, his nurse assistant was really friendly and sweet, and the equipment they used for my husband’s MRI scan of his knee was top-of-the-line, but the office staff is INCREDIBLY unprofessional, disorganized, rude and unhelpful. I completely understand that things can take time, and am overall a very patient person, but my husband has now waited over 4WEEKS to get his MRI results(which were promised to be delivered to us within 2 – 3 days), and no matter how much we call, plead, beg, not a single human being will answer our call(unless you pretend to be a new patient, which we did to only try and get to [what we hoped would be] a reasonable, compassionate human being who could hear our case and help us, but sadly we only got a chillingly cold human, who dispassionately heard our dilemma and promptly hurled us into the never-ending vortex of voicemail box messages which never get returned). The one redeeming person was the office manager, who I only got to after asking for her directly. She was compassionate, sweet, efficient, prompt, very sympathetic to our problem, and now we are apparently FINALLY going to receive my husband’s MRI results, and have them faxed over to the new doctor we have chosen instead(who is closer to where we live than Dr. Curtis). I just wish her entire office staff would be as kind and helpful as she was. I never leave reviews like this, but after watching my husband in so much pain for so long, I wanted to warn other families who don’t have time to wait for a loved one’s care. Despite how wonderful the medical team is, I absolutely would not recommend this office. Unless you’re 100% certain your case will be a simple, «come-see-the-doctor-once-get-scheduled-for-the-surgery-you-are-done» situation, with absolutely zero hiccups that will require actually speaking to a caring human being, and you are certain that you are a wizard at gaming a phone system that seems rigged to ensure that they will never have to actually help a customer by speaking with them directly, you should not go here.

Do not pay up front for any of your services here! If you do they will overcharge you and then not refund any of the amount owed! I would take my business elsewhere!

I feel like they are too busy and big to give true one on one patient experiences. I would wait for an hour in the waiting room to see the doctor for 2 minutes(no exaggeration). I also have had nothing but problems with my knee since the surgery and am now looking for new care.

Dr. David Schmidt is without a doubt, a skilled surgeon. He also seems like a nice guy, albeit a VERYBUSY nice guy. The ACL repair he did for me is strong and without complication. His process for getting to know ME and my individual GOALS for return to play, and his process for rehabilitating me to be game ready absolutely STINK! Before my injury, I was an all-state high school competitor; upon my return, at the six month mark, I was not ready to play mentally or physically. When I played my first game my knee experienced swelling. I went back for a consultation and he asked me «what are you doing(playing)?» this despite his having«released» me the week before to play at «100%». No one ever took the time to ask me what I wanted to achieve from my surgery and rehab. Every single office visit I made with him he got my age and sport incorrect. He was always rushed, and there was a feeling like I was an afterthought. The coordination with the in-house physical therapy was a nightmare. It was VERYDIFFICULT to get Dr. Schmidt’s team to talk to the physical therapy folks to schedule more appointments. Dr. Schmidt NEVER asked about rehab or checked with me on my progress. The rehab physical therapy process looked nothing like what you see on YouTube where college and professional athletes are working HARD with Aqua therapy, weights, and running hills with chutes tied to their waists. Riding a stationary bike and standing on a bosu ball with one leg is not enough. There is ZERO consideration given to the emotional/psychological impact of this type of injury. No one ever discussed these issues with me. After surgery, the instructions you go home with are confusing and look like they have been recopied hundreds of times and some of the text is cut off and illegible. This is the 21st century, can we mix in a nice color electronic PDF or a webpage with YouTube videos??? His RNs and assistants seem overwhelmed and impersonal, bordering on having contempt for patient questions or issues. He needs to hire true patient care coordinators who can help him, and his patients, negotiate the surgery and recovery process(recovery plan driven by patient). In short, I can recommend Dr. Schmidt as a surgeon, but would strongly urge you to go somewhere else to handle your 6 – 12 month recovery and rehabilitation program.

I’ve been a patient of Dr Schmidt for years. He diagnosed me with a torn meniscus in SECONDS when I had seen others doctors and physical therapists who told me ‘live with my pain.’ Amazingly talented, professional physician.

I had a really good experience with Sports Medicine Associates. They were knowledgeable, helpful, and listened to my complaints. I felt like they had my best interest at heart — which is not the case with every Dr. out there!
