After shopping around San Antonio for a wedding band with my fiancé, Stone Oak Jewelers gave us by far the most negative experience. We spoke to a jeweler(perhaps the owner mentioned in other reviews) who was incredibly rude and condescending. My fiancé’s polite explanation of the style of ring she seeks was met with degrading and outright sexist comments. When I explained that I was looking for a ring in 18k white gold, I was patronizingly lectured on why I need a platinum ring. The arrogant, elitist attitude behind these comments reflected disregard for our wishes. After ten minutes, we were out of this place, fuming about the negative experience we had. I would never buy a ring from someone who treats customers so poorly, and I hope others may be spared the aggravation.

Best place in town. Still very happy with my purchase of custom wedding ring. Have been back several times and will probably not go anywhere else

My fiancé and I got engaged last Saturday in Prague, Czech Republic. I used the ring that Dan and the team made at Stone Oak and was more than proud to present it. They made the product and the experience perfect. From my first email to the time I walked out the door with the engagement ring was less than two weeks! Of course, they’re busier given certain times of the year, but I’ve never experienced a service business so keen on exceeding my expectations. Yes, they are direct with the way they talk and do business. It’s because they’re serious about getting the job done right and don’t have time to beat around the bush or act like angels. They’re serious craftsman doing incredible work. I highly recommend them.

Walked in and after speaking to sales man for a minute, walked out. He had a condescending attitude and the other gentlemen just continued on with their conversation. Apparently this is how they all treat customers. Not impressed with this business at all.

Poor customer service and inexperienced jewelers! I had been looking for a decent jeweler for the past 2 years since I’ve been in San Antonio to get my wedding rings cleaned and resized. They were custom made for me and only handled by the original jeweler so needless to say I was hesitant to take it to just anywhere. I looked all over and found Stone Oak Jewelers which I thought was perfect since they had great reviews through another site and were located in Stone Oak where I live. When I first came in I was helped by Dan, who I assumed owned the business as he was in one of the pictures on the wall. I told him what I wanted done and asked specific questions about the resizing process as I didn’t want any structural damage to the ring to occur. He assured me nothing would happen to the ring and looked at me like I was an idiot. He explained how they go about resizing rings and seemed annoyed by my questions, basically wanting me to drop off my rings, no questioned asked. Their pricing was decent at $ 50 to rerodium as well as $ 50 to resize each band so I decided just to get them done. He confirmed the GIA # in the main diamond in the center of my ring before I left it with them so that put me at a bit more ease since I’ve heard horror stories of diamonds being swapped out. He told me they would be done the next day and would call me. The next day, nothing, so I called and they told me it would be an additional day. The next afternoon, nothing so I called again at 5:00pm as I was leaving work. The guy who answered was extremely rude. When I asked again if they were ready for pick up, he rudely just said yea and hung up. They did a decent job cleaning the rings but I noticed the ring was bit too big. I was tired from work and just wanted to go home so I paid for them and left. That night, I noticed they were much too big to the point where if I flicked my hand the rings would come off. Also I noticed that they didn’t sand down the portion that was resized so if you ran your finger across it, it was rough and irritating to the skin and there was a small chip/discolored section along the bottom. So I went back the next day to see what they could do. When I came in they just laughed it off and asked if I messed it up by «hitting my husband in the head.» They didn’t apologize just basically oops we’ll fix it. It seemed like such a rookie mistake for such a supposed high end jewelery store. They called me 3 days later when it was ready. When I went back, they tried to charge me the full amount I paid initially again!!! I asked why they would charge me again and the guy that helped me didn’t really have anything to say. He went to the back and got Dan to come out and speak with me. Dan came out and literally just stood there, not saying a word. No hello, how can I help you, etc. I made sure to tell him this was my second time coming back to fix something they did when I dropped it off. I scrutinized the ring in the front of him for a couple of minutes to make sure everything was perfect again. The chipped part/discolored portion on the bottom was still there so I pointed this out to him. He told me this was probably already there which couldn’t have been the case because it was on the section that they added to increase the size of the ring! Basically I could see the outline of the portion they added. He just blankly looked at me with nothing to say so I finally cut to the chase and asked him what the charge was for this. He didn’t end up charging me, which I would have fought if he tried, but ultimately the experience was awful. The portion that they messed up is on the bottom part of the ring so aesthetically only I can tell the difference thankfully. I wanted to give it back to have them fix until it was perfect but honestly I just wanted to get my rings before they did something else to it. I don’t know how this place received such amazing reviews online. I was glad to see on Unilocal though that I wasn’t the only person who had received such poor service here. Hopefully I can find another jeweler here in San Antonio to take care of my rings from now on. If not, I guess I’ll be paying high shipping costs to get my jeweler in Arizona to take care of it for me again. They really lost what could have been a long time customer.

I find it difficult to give this beautiful business a single star… it is a lovely store and the folks who own it are knowledgable and honest… But here it is. My first experience with Dan, the pistol packing owner, was shocking. When discussing my choices in jewelry design he sarcastically commented that«there is no accounting for taste». My first response was that I had misheard, nope, he confirmed it as he continued in that vein after I begged his pardon, I figured that i had somehow offended him or he just hates me for my appearance. Nope, he then slammed into a waiting customer that he was busy. I relaxed, just his style, unpleasant but not important. Then the bad stuff began. I brought jewelry in to be appraised which, as it turned out, was substantially ruined by earlier, not this store’s, mistreatment. I was informed that they could not do an insurance report due to this damage. This was not bad news as I must pay my sister for half it’s value. When I asked what would be the value of the gold etc, I was again told Dan that they could not do an insurance appraisal, okay. I tried again, foolishly, but I seemed to not be communicating clearly. So could I get a weight and content? I Was kindly offered a picture and that assessment next time I came in. So, what happened? When I contacted them to do this, Dan went off again, this time using the most sanctimonious tones attesting to his honesty that he could not do an insurance appraisal… I tried for the third time that that is NOT what I had asked for, he began again, impugning my honesty, and never listening to what I actually said. My heart races just remembering such horrible insults to my integrity. ugh. I also told him that I only needed appraisals for anything over $ 10000. Which he took the opportunity to state again that these pieces were not worth that much and he would not say otherwise in an appraisal as he is an honest man. Honest yes, with selective hearing, or worse. And he appears to carry a gun I did see that this is his m.o. My advise, go to the store, but if Dan becomes your jeweler, run.

I love Stone Oak Jewelers. They are so friendly and are willing to help. This is the second time I’ve been there for their services and each time they have exceeded my expectations. I love their jewelry and you can tell they take time to do things the right way. I can tell they really care about their customers and doing the right thing.
