This place has grown on me. It’s not the best Mexican food but the shrimp quesadillas are the best! They have good staff here. Anytime something is wrong or order gets messed up they go above and beyond. They’ve been on the kitchen cops a few times that I’ve seen. But I’ve never had a bad server here so I keep coming back. They have an awesome drink menu and it never disappoints! The ONLY reason some times I choose not to go there is they don’t have SHINERBEER here :(

I want to start off by saying that I’ve been going here for years, but after my experience today, I’m not sure we will ever come back. First we were brought a bowl of broken chips, which resembled the end of a bag(this may sound petty, but it’s difficult to dip the end bits of chips). We dealt with a multitude of different waiters, one took our drink order, another brought our drinks, then one took our food order and the other brought it out. At one point we heard two of the waiters arguing over who was getting the tip, and who’s table it was. Unfortunately we spilled a drink at our table which never actually got cleaned up(we did try to clean it up ourselves with the limited amount of supplies we had). At this point no waiter had come to our table for about a 15 to 20 min period. Finally when I was able to flag down a waiter who wasn’t ours, I informed them of the spilled drink and asked if we could get some new chips. Another 15 minutes had passed and we got our new drink and chips but they had yet to clean the table, at one point the manager came by and cleaned the floor, most likely due to the liability of a wet floor in a restaurant but ignored the small ocean of water that still plagued our table! Finally our food came, but they had completely forgotten our child’s meal(meaning the never put her order in), they never brought us tortillas, nor the desert that came with the 2 for 20 deal. My child’s meal was the last straw, I wasn’t going to wait another hour just to get her meal! I finally got up to speak to the off duty manager, who assured me he would«discount me» and«make it right». I went back to the table and waited for another 25 min, no check, no waiter, no manager !!! No box for my food, I finally put money on the table and left. I can not tell you how unprofessional and horrible this experience was, I have been coming here since I was a child myself. It was so incredibly disrespectful and unwelcoming that I think they have lost an entire family of loyal customers !

I try to be pleased with my time at tomatillos since my Hubbys family adores it but every time we have been there with them we get neglected. My husbands water glass was empty a majority of the time we were there and his salsa bowl had queso on it(which we didn’t eat). My guacamole salad was not fresh(tasted past ripened and had a sour taste like a preservative had been added) and there were only like 3 lettuce leafs on it. We didn’t have our salsa refilled with the rest of our table either.

This was my first visit, and not unless I’m desparate, I will not be going back any time soon. The cheese enchilada is the best thing on the menu. This restaurant is really over rated in a city with so many other options. Just because San Antonio has a large Hispanic population does not mean that every restaurant that specializes in Mexican food is good. I’ve had better in Indiana, Illinois, and Mississippi. The staff clothing attire was unclean. The food was cold. There were snats flying all over the restaurant, and one of the wait staff confessed that the food is prepared like a factory mill. Additionally, the floor waa nasty and I went through 5 sets of silverware before I found a clean at — seriously. Americans standards are either too low or most people are too inebriated to know what quality is.

Hadn’t been in a few years and was a little surprised at how down hill it has gone. Atmosphere was not as nice as I had remembered and food wasn’t too great either. It seemed like a big taco cabana restaurant.

Tomatillo’s has been around a long dang time. It’s an exaggerated fiesta happening non-stop, but maybe sometimes that’s what you want. Maybe it’s like Taco Cabana and Mi Tierra had a baby: you can get some decent Mexican food and margaritas in a festive atmosphere. The place is certainly good for groups: booths can easily hold 6 – 8 people; tables can be combined to accomodate bigger parties — there were THREE such large parties underway when a friend and I stopped in the other night; PLUS they have party rooms. That’s not even accounting for the bar… I remember Tomatillo’s being A Spot back in the day. Then I got a little angry that the quality seemed to have slipped. Now they seem like they’re on the way back up to… something. It’s not exactly back to «it» status, but it’s not disappointing me anymore. And I’ll give them this: they just keep on keepin’ on, having a good time.

The margaritas and cheese dip are the main attraction here but their other dishes don’t lack flavor either starting with the spicy salsa. And they have plenty of space/a party room

I ate at Tomatillos years ago for a work event and recently went back last weekend for a dinner with my sorority sisters. We had called ahead and made a reservation for 20. Our table was ready when we arrived and our server was outstanding! Usually for a party this size, you would think that you would need two servers, but he was incredibly efficient. We constantly had our chips/salsa and drinks refilled, and he divided up our bills like a pro. I ordered a bowl of chicken tortilla soup, and it was delicious! The bowl comes with a side of Mexican rice, which is a nice accompaniment. I would definitely order it again!

I’ve been here a couple of times, the food is average is not to die for. If you want real Mexican food go to the heart of san Antonio which is the West Side, there’s a really good finger licking good restaurant named El Cazador off of woodlawn. Prepare to be amazed the food, service and people are just outstanding!!!

Mediocre food. High prices. My work center had reserved a room for our co worker’s farewell lunch. We were given small menus to expedite the process. The menus didn’t have prices. I guess we should have asked! We paid $ 18.94 for lunch! The food was mediocre and not worth the price at all.

Enchiladas and Barbacoa Taco were on point. They ran out of Barbacoa but were able to make me 1 taco. I will be going here more often. Not the best queso, but everything else was great

Visited Tomatillos for the first time on Sunday. And it was alright. I liked the atmosphere the best. It was chill and relatively quiet. But the food was expensive and lacked anything to write home about. I ordered the cheese enchiladas, as I do the first time I visit any Mexican food restaurant. I was left underwhelmed. One of my enchiladas had barely any cheese in it and the rice was more on the dry side. The salsa was great though. I poured a good amount of it over my rice and beans to add a little flavor. All in all, not a bad restaurant, but around this area, you have a number of other options.

We got a recommendation to go to Tomatillo last night off of Broadway. Everyone was so friendly when we first walked in a gave us a good impression. After sitting down we slowly realized how dirty the place was. The salt shaker and menus were sticky to the touch. The silverware had baked food on them. Apparently the men’s bathroom was disgusting. And there was an accumulation of greasy dust on the edge of the brick wall at the end of our table. I would NOT recommend eating there at all.

Dont come here on Sunday at 4pm. The service is terrible. It is obvious they need more servers. Our first waitress forgot our drink order. 15 minutes later she had her coworker bring our drinks. The chicken fajitas came out but they have no flavor. Then we waited another 5 minutes for tortillas. We are into our third server now and it all seems half hazard. I do like the decorations. The music playing is bizarre. It is a combo of pop and korean? We used to love this place but time has changed the service for sure.

Mediocre Tex Mex food. But it’s a fun place and the service is great. They also have several vegetarian options — including guacamole enchiladas that my vegan mom says are pretty good! Lot of margaritas.

First time here. Service was good pretty attentive and we came in 10 minutes before the lunch special ended and by the time we sat down to order it should have been over but they accommodated us. I had a taste of the enchiladas verdes and they were exactly what you would expect from a place named Tomatillos. Delicious! The soup was great and other people who dined with me raved about the way the big red tasted here. They also took advantage of happy hour and had super cold and tasty dos xx. This was a great place to catch up with family and enjoy ourselves.

Been coming here for years, but never got around to reviewing this little gem in Alamo Heights. Great service, clean restaurant, and the menu is awesome. The fish tacos aren’t the best I’ve had but they stand their ground and I would certainly recommend them. What I really like is the wide variety and style of enchiladas they have — their is something for every pallet. Consistency is really what earns them 5 solid stars!

So I’ll say this. I’ve been here about 5 times in the last year. And there are some things I like and some I don’t. Service sucks so bad. The salsa is incredible. Those chips with that salsa are pretty amazing. The cheese enchiladas, I can’t say anything bad about them. I loved the beef fajitas also. My wife hates their food and insists she can’t find anything good there. But guess what, she doesn’t Unilocal,so I’m giving it my rating. Ha. The only problem I have really had is the service. Today was the worst. We had about 30 people in a group to celebrate my grandmas 93rd birthday. It literally took about 2 hours to get our food. Some got theirs sooner but ours got there after 2 hours from sitting down. Mind you, we didn’t order as soon as we sat down. Probably 30 minutes after. I would be embarrassed to take that long if I were them. I have had bad service here multiple times but I really love that salsa. So the food is 4 stars but the service is 2. We will settle for 3. And they are lucky because of my wife had a Unilocal or if I let her Unilocal for me, they’d be getting a 1.
