Wow. Great gym! Wish my college gym was this big and nice! This place has lazy river inside! There is so many machines you never have to worry about them being busy. We can always find what we need to complete our workout.

Wish they had more leg machines and maybe a shrug machine too … This is a great gym but I wish it was open 24⁄7. Just a 10 min walk from my apartment and always parking available in the afternoons during semester. This gym has some cool amenities, such as a rock wall, upstairs running track, multiple cardio areas, great weight room, and tons of group classes in various exercises. They have 25cent lockers available, as well as your own lock lockers too. Great gym for a great school! Go runners!

I LOVE this place. If it wasn’t for UTSA’s Rec I’d probably be ‘that fat kid who always sits alone in the corner of class.’ The Rec at UTSA is honestly stunning. The staff are amazing and really make the experience great. The UTSA Rec has THE tallest rock wall in Texas as well as a fantastically mammoth weight area, and plenty of other amenities. Wall ball, basketball courts, tennis courts, ping pong areas, suspended lap lanes, kitchen demos, swimming pools, massage rooms, meeting rooms, yoga rooms, a Smoothie King, heck we even have a mini water park out back. As long as I’m living in San Antonio I plan to keep my membership here even after I graduate from UTSA. Go Runners!

After attending this campus for 6 years I can tell you that the recreation has gone through major upgrades. ( ) –Great upstairs-indoor track –Top notch indoor basketball: 3 courts with full court rims on each side –Indoor soccer court(in the back), where they sometimes have additional hoops –About 6 indoor racquetball courts –Cooking demo kitchen upstairs –Several studios for exercises classes like: Yoga(it really works), zumba(depends on instructor but overall excellent), MMA(legit), belly dancing(I know… but its cool), and many others like abs, circuit etc… –Rock wall –Downstairs weights for iso, upstairs weights, core area by the indoor track –Ping pong –LAZYRIVER+ lap pools(3) outside. *Its never really open anymore… something about rennovations/water conservation…** but when it is you have to check it out. Sitting beneath the waterfall area will flow all your troubles away between classes. *For classes there are schedules on the counters so pick them up for times Tips: 1.Quarter lockers. I did both the quarter lockers for a year and invested inside the locker room. *TOBEHONEST– ATMYFINALYEAR I JUSTLEFTMYSTUFFINTHETRUNK, CHANGEDINLOCKER, ANDTOOK A ZIPLOG. If you don’t mind the extra walk before your workout– save your money. 2. Watch for busier class hours(like MWF and TR and factor in busier days that students actually come and stay on campus). Because students will park in the rec parking. 3. Non-students membership $ 30 a month. You can pay month by month too. I had a busy work schedule so it worked out. May seem pricey but the UTSA1604 rec is a great location, campus security in the lots(note no where is safe), and just paying more for convenience, and quality. 4. Since it is a campus recreation they host many campus events so aside from holidays may reserve the gym for extracurriculars. Not 24⁄7.

I bought a staff membership last week($ 30/month) — which I think is a reasonable rate in comparison to other gyms. I have really enjoyed everything this particular facility has to offer. What I really like is that the group exercise classes are included in the your membership fee(when I was a grad student at Texas state you had to pay for classes separately). I’ve tried Zumba. Kettlebell and Yoga Fusion — all were great workouts with teachers who were encouraging to newbies, like myself. Another thing I like is the indoor track(this is great for those that don’t like running outdoors but don’t like treadmills — like me!). I was amazed by how much equipment they have. So many different weight and exercise machines! I’ve gone in the evenings and have never had to wait for a machine. I can’t wait to try more classes and the rock climbing wall!

Great, clean, and beautiful gym. The lazy river is non-existant because of the drought, but other than that, I love the upper track, the many treadmills, and plentiful weight machines. Though it can get very busy, it’s a great gym.

Easily the best gym in San Antonio. I have been a student at UTSA for the past 3 years and I wish I had not waiting until my last semester here to start taking full advantage of the Rec Center. The pool is an incredible resort-style facility with lazy river. There is the largest rock wall in Texas, volleyball courts, basketball courts, every kind of exercise class, an indoor track, and of course every piece of equipment you can imagine. The only downside to the Rec center is the amount of people there at peak hours 4 – 9 pm weekdays. If you go on weekends or in the morning you will be fine. Even in peak hours when the gym is crowded, you will probably still get to use the machine you are looking for because they have so many! Membership is free for students, and I think the rate is still very affordable for non-students.

And a very sarcastic thank you to Crissy Garza at the UTSA Rec Center for denying me a one time access to work out Monday, June 11, 2012 as I waited for my niece to attend a meeting with her advisor. As a «lifetime member» of the UTSA Alumni Association, it’s not exactly reassuring that a 20 year old with no reasoning skills can and will act to keep a long-time supporter out of the facility my generation’s time and money helped build. It was supposed to be a simple $ 5 fee to work out one time as an alum. Nope, she denied me access because my niece was not instantly present to serve as my «sponsor.» Forget about actually joining, I’m not even allowed to try it out? What? Seriously, every gym on the planet allows a «free trial» if only for a single day and here I was, a LEGITIMATEALUMNI, trying to PAY for a work out. Crissy has no business being in charge and certainly no penchant for customer service. What a profound disappointment. I also now blame little Crissy for the new purse I bought a Neiman’s when I had to then find another way to kill an hour awaiting my niece. Wait. What?

Best gym!!! Definitely going to keep an alumni membership after I graduate! Equipment is clean and they offer cleaning solution and towels at just about every other machine so you don’t have an excuse not to wipe off the equipment! You’ll often see the employees wiping down machines as well. The place is well organized with every weight in its marked place… so aggravating to me at other local gyms is when weights are left all over place. They have small labels everywhere indicating where equipment goes. They also offer body fat testing, cardio classes, and even a demo kitchen. They run different contests throughout the semester as well. So happy I attended UTSA to qualify for membership here!

I have been going here since it opened and have always considered it way more of a gym than anywhere I have ever seen. It has something for everyone…

This place is supposed to be for students and faculty of UTSA only, but I believe that you can get a guest membership, or guest passes. This gym is fantastic! They offer everything! Basketball, ping pong, foosball, indoor soccer, a lazy river, a climbing wall, air hockey, swimming, day trips you name it! It’s amazing! They offer all the stuff you need to play with at the front desk for purchase or rental. There’s an indoor smoothie place. The only reason this place doesn’t get 5 stars is the locker rooms. I’ve certainly seen better. They’re kept pretty clean, but lack some of the things that make a locker room 5 stars. They offer equipment checkout for students, so you can check out a camping stove, or a canoe, a mountain bike or a tent. It’s awesome.
