I was redirected to this site to order from the Siuchuan site(the restaurant off of Northwest Military) and it wasn’t until we went to pick up the order that we were told the owner lost the restaurant, Suichuan, and opened another one named Yum Wok– but he hasn’t updated his website. I was very disappointed with this fact but I got the food anyways. The food was so bad… the crab rangoons hardly had filling and it was incredibly over fried and not very flavorful. All of the food was pretty bad including the sesame chicken which is very hard to mess up. We had a tall order of many things including general tso’s, the mixed veggies, sweet and sour chicken and the ginger duck. I am very accepting of most chinese food– even bad chinese food can be tolerable– but this restaurant’s food was nasty. The only flavor in all the foods that you could taste was oil. Ew.

Service was excellent. I ordered the Sesame Chicken for take out and there was minimal wait time. The prices were great for the amount of food you get. I’ll definitely recommend to others.

Food is just okay. The sweet and sour sauce is not deep red… instead it is light pink… flavor isn’t good. The egg rolls were VERYSOGGY on the inside. The beef and broccoli was okay. However, the sesame chicken and orange chicken received were the same except one with sesame seeds. No sauce difference just with sesame seeds sprinkled on top. I called and talked with cashier who told me the don’t get any complaints on it. I told her that this is the same meat except with sesame seeds… she said«I don’t think so». Told me the manager was not in and that she was just the cashier… she could offer exchange but if have to come in. I ordered online… if I wanted to drive, I would have. I won’t be frequenting this establishment again.

This was my first time trying this restaurant and I based it on the Unilocal reviews. Sometimes that’s a gamble but I’m very glad I took this risk :) I ordered the pot stickers, cashew shrimp and wonton soup. I was thoroughly impressed with each selection. It arrived quickly and hot, a rarity with delivery these days. The pot stickers were slightly crunch on the bottom and gently steamed on top. They were great, the dipping sauce was a little strong, too much vinegar. The cashew shrimp was cooked perfectly, not tiny little cheap frozen shrimp. Fresh and tender not overlooked. Came in a savory brown sauce with water chestnuts, celery and mushrooms. Easily my favorite vegetables! The wonton soup was seasoned correctly and the santons wee substantial for 2.95 it’s a steal. Using the Eat24 app paired with Unilocal,I found a coupon online and my total bill was $ 20. I didn’t have to go anywhere and got an amazing meal. Love this place, I will be ordering again soon!

Good authentic style Chinese restaurant. Loved the green beans! They have two menus. One is the more Americanized version of Chinese and the other is the more traditional style. Will definately return!

Excellent food and service. I ordered online and they kept my food warm until I was able to arrive. I was greater upon entrance. Be sure to try the Egg Drop soup!

My family and I have dined here several times. This last was the absolute worst ever. I asked to substitute egg drop soup for wonton and was flat out told«no» even though I’d done so before. I even offered to pay a price for the substitution. Im not sure their«one» waiter understood me. He pointed at the menu and said«egg drop only». Ok. When our food arrived, the fried rice was overcooked, my food was lukewarm, and spring roll cold. The potstickers we ordered as an apetizer, came out after we were done with our meals. Something has changed with Yum Wok, we used to make this our go to spot… sadly we won’t be returning.

Ordered for delivery. Ordered the wonton soup, vegetable lo mien and sweet and sour chicken with a side of fried rice. Took forever to get here. Was supposed to be here by 7:45. That gave them over an hour after I ordered to deliver. It got here between 8:15 and 8:20. I realize delays happen, but seriously? Now, the food: The wonton soup — Excellent. Though I’m unlikely to order delivery from them again, I’ll probably stop in just for this soup every now and again. It’s that delicious The lo mien — Good. Not great, but quite good. Good sized order, too. I’d order it again. The fried rice — Not bad, but to be perfectly frank, the fried rice at Panda Express is better. This was fresher, though. The sweet and sour chicken — Bland. Not all that crispy, probably because it took so long to get to me. But that doesn’t excuse the tastelessness. Once again, a good sized order, which is good. The dish itself just… isn’t. Wouldn’t order this again. Okay, onto prices. I found it a little pricey, but the portions explain that, so I guess they’re pretty fair. Just a touch overpriced, I think. The delivery guy was polite enough, so was the person I spoke with when I called to ask why my order was not here yet. But I was annoyed, so I didn’t really chit-chat with them.(They interrupted one of the few shows I watch by being that late. And I was hungry.) In all, based on this one experience, I’d give them about 2.5 stars. Rating may change at some point because, as I said, I’ll probably be getting that soup again. Probably try another dish. We’ll see.

Great mix of traditional and American Chinese dishes. They offer traditional Sichuan dishes such as spicy dan dan noodles(so yummy!), crispy spicy chicken(so spicy and good), and soup noodles. They also have the traditional American Chinese offerings. My husband had the orange chicken and it was the best I’ve had in town. The sauce had the right amount of spicy and wasn’t overtly sweet like some places tend to get. The décor is nice and it’s not been overly crowded when we’ve been. According to a sign they’ll be offering a create your own stirfry option soon(can’t wait). Definitely recommend.

I feel this restaurant(and the parent location) offers the most authentic and tasty Sichuan Chinese food in San Antonio. I’ve seen a few reviewers claim that its Americanized — well that is true because those reviewers are ordering dishes like crab Rangoon, egg rolls, and General Tso’s. These items are not the«star» dishes at Yum Wok, and likely not at any Chinese Restaurant. Do a little research and you will see that these are American Invented items that Chinese Restaurants simply include to help make everyone in the group happy. I’ve been to Yum Wok probably 100 times, and its quite rare that I have a less than perfect experience. The owner(Sharon) or her trusted assistant(Helen) are there all the time, if you have a special request or need. The servers are friendly and experienced. The space is modern, clean, and comfortable. They keep some of items that American’s are not used to on a «Chinese» menu that you usually have to ask for. If you are Chinese you probably know the drill already. But for those who are unaware of the«Chinese» menu… I mention it in case you are adventurous and want to try some new things. [If you are looking for an even greater number of Chinese delicacies, like 5 Star melt-in your mouth Pork-Belly, then you should visit the parent location — Sichuan Cuisine on NW Military] I recommend you start your first visit to Yum Wok with one or more of the following: the Crispy Spicy Chicken(loads of red peppers — very spicy), the Fragrant Garlic EggPlant(to die for), DanDan Noodles(less than $ 4.00-and don’t forget to mix in the secret sauce that’s placed at the bottom of the bowl), the vegetable trio or the seasonal Snow Pea Leaves(if you like vegetables these are awesome).

Nice décor however that’s all I have to say since I sat and starred at it for 30min waiting for my food. I ended up walking out as I noticed everyone who came behind me had their food. As I was gathering my things they said, food is on the way. Well, it was but it was the wrong order. Very disappointed as this place is close to work and really wanted to give it a try.

This is the same owner as the Sichuan place on Military. So the food is literally the same(except no hot pot), but it’s much closer to the medical center — which means much faster. The food is small for the price, but at this point i’m not complaining cause it was hard enough to find a good chinese place in SA in the first place.

Very larger portions for a good price. The food was okay, nothing crazy good but still enjoyable. I had the duck and egg drop soup. The soup was very flavorful but the duck was very dry. I am not a big easter of Chinese food so my palate might be a little off but my friends really like this place for the chicken.

Sometimes you just need your fix of some American Chinese. Last few places I’ve tried have been really disappointing. I found this place on grub hub and I will definitely be ordering from them in the future. I have tried the potstickers, fried rice, sweet and sour chicken, and lo mein. All had kind of a uniqueness to them and were delicious! I picked up my order about 5 mins before I was supposed to and it was sitting on the counter, packed and ready. I was in and out in 3p secs. Everything was very hot and very fresh. Highly recommend if you’re considering trying here!

I’ve never seen this place busy, and I can’t explain why. They have HUGE portions, and great daily specials. Every day of the week, they have a different lunch and dinner special. If you get there between 5 – 7, they have an awesome happy hour, with half priced appetizers, and cheap beer. Their food is decent, nothing special. But there’s so much of it! Seriously, two people could eat one dish and walk away satisfied. The service here is always top notch. They keep my drinks full, and the food comes out of the kitchen with speed. The décor is nice. It used to be a Mexican restaurant, and they kept the booths with a Tex-Mex kind of theme to them, but they’ve done a great job giving it an Asian vibe with a fountain and all kinds of fung-shwei. The prices are quite reasonable, especially if you order off the daily specials, and the happy hour menu. They offer coupons in the paper for 10% off, which makes it even more of a great deal! Check this place out– it’s one of the better Asian restaurants on this side of town.

Tried a variety of items. I’m not the most well versed on Chinese food, but the food was relatively Americanized besides the stir fried veggies(maybe?). I give the food a 2 because I probably would definitely eat elsewhere in the med center. Even Pei Wei tastes better to me than Yum Wok. Here is what I tried and how the food fared: Broccoli and Beef: 3/5, Beef and Broccoli in a thick curry like brown sauce. Pretty average, although the sauce was thicker consistency than I’m used too. Too much corn starch maybe? Kung Pao Chicken: 1/5, Worst I’ve ever had. Sauce tasted odd maybe even a little sour. and was also pretty thick. Chicken tasted like pork. Had slices of cut red hot pepper in it but wasn’t super spicy. It didn’t seem to add any flavor to the dish. I didn’t see many peanuts either. Lo Mein: 3/5, Pretty decent, but the presentation of the chicken didn’t look appetizing and could’ve been cooked better. Stir fried veggies: 1/5, Basically broccoli and peas thrown in with some chili paste and stir fried. All I could taste was chili paste. Not my cup of tea. Egg/Spring rolls: 3/5, A little soggy, but otherwise tasty/solid. Food was relatively affordable.

I just started a new job over in the Medical Center area and this place was close so I decided to drop in for lunch. I walked in and was impressed with the atmosphere. It was very clean and inviting. The glass that separates the booths had etchings of ducks and such, which was very pretty. I advised the host that I only had 30 minutes for lunch and he said it would not be a problem. The menu was easy to read and offered the usual Chinese fare. They have lunch specials seven days a week from 11am to 3pm and the entrees are served with steamed or fried rice, egg roll, and your choice of Egg Drop or Hot & Sour soup. I ordered the Sesame Chicken Lunch Special with Iced Tea and Egg Drop soup. The Iced Tea and Egg Drop soup were served right away. The Iced Tea was really good. The egg drop soup was really dark but tasted okay. I have had better and I have had worse. It was served with crispy wonton strips. It didn’t take long for the Sesame Chicken to come but it was still a little too long for my half-hour lunch because I was about 5 minutes late getting back to work. The Sesame Chicken was very good. The fried rice was a bit dark and tasted okay but nothing special about it. Overall, this place is not bad compared to some of our sad Chinese offerings in San Antonio. I think I will go back and try other things on the menu. However, I will call ahead and get them to go so I won’t be late again. :)

came here for lunch on a sunday and the place was pretty much empty. it’s in kind of a random spot, right across the street from chachos. i had heard good things about the authentic chinese menu so we tried a few things— dandan noodles: skip this. it was straight up thick noodles in a strange peanut buttery sauce. most restaurants make it with meat but they didn’t add any here. pork dumplings in spicy sauce: prob wouldn’t order this again either. szechuan cuisine does something similar but 10x better. there was barely any meat in the dumpling and it was kind of bland. potstickers: also disappointing. definitely the frozen, out of a bag version. the soy vinegar sauce it came with was super pungent– way too strong. sautéed string beans with ground pork: these had no ground pork! just pork flavoring. but the dish was pretty good. maybe kinda overpriced for a veggie dish. and false advertising. boiled fish in spicy sauce: also yummy. but not quite how it’s normally done. the sauce it came in was really thick. this dish normally comes on more of a spicy, oily broth and not a thick, almost gelatinous sauce. the fish pieces were sort of hard to find(would be nice if they just served the fish itself on a plate) but the fish was good and not too spicy! stir-fried lamb with spicy sauce and cumin: another pretty good dish. the lamb was a little dry but it was well seasoned. definitely had a kick to it but i liked that the spiciness didn’t overpower the flavor. and the lettuce the meat sat on balanced out the spices well. overall, i’d say this place is overpriced and not super authentic. but it’s close to where I live so i may give it another shot. service isn’t the greatest. there is an asian manager who does a decent job but none of the(non-asian) servers can tell you anything about the menu items, especially anything on the authentic menu. peeked at the lunch specials– typical americanized asian dishes for $ 6 – 8. i wanted to order one but the server took forever to come by. by the time she did it was past 3p so they wouldn’t take the order. oh well, maybe next time.

Never before have I wished a restaurant would go out of business. Yum Wok is taking up a space that could be occupied by a real restaurant run in a manner that respects its customers, their taste buds, and their time. Long story short, it took so long for two of the four of us to get our food that they just left and told the staff to cancel their order after right at an hour. My food actually showed up, not correct I might add, and was so bland and cold. I have no idea what restaurant«Mark» ate at, but it’s clear it wasn’t Yum Wok.
