I love coming here! I got my first haircut here when I started transitioning my hair from relaxed to natural and they did a great job! I really enjoyed how attentive everyone was when cutting my hair, I felt very comfortable. I hate to see bad reviews, but you can’t expect to get in and out quick on a Friday afternoon, obviously, and if you are super duper particular about your hair, go spend 100 bucks somewhere in the city. These students do a great job, may not be for everyone, but for me I love the service!

Not sure why so many people have bad reviews. Was it the student? The student who did my hair did an excellent job. I came in a few days before my appointment and they figured out exactly what they’re going to do and even tested it out a little. The final product made me so happy and even more happy with my salon experience. THANKYOUDIANE!

I get it, I understand people are in training here. I came wanting to tip well and looking forward to supporting a program at Skyline. I came in here because a friend of mine came out of the cosmetology building after scheduling stuff and looked awesome. She gave it glowing reviews and I really wanted to check it out. I should have realized upon booking an appointment. The secretary at the desk just seemed perpetually in a bad mood, and out to punish anyone she could by giving them a nasty attitude. I just wanted to book a haircut! Jesus, I must have had 3 lines with her where I was all pleases and thankyous and she still acted like I was an incredibly inconvenient waste of her time. I came back exactly at my appointment. Sat in a waiting room for about 15 minutes as the secretary was calling cosmetology students for their clients. She must have called two separate people 2 – 3 times before someone had to tell her they were still on lunch break. This same person asked her a question about if an object was her’s or not, and she blew up at her behind the desk. So my hairdresser comes, and I sit down and we talk about haircut stuff. No exchanging pleasantries, no other speech. Okay. Weird, but I’ll let it pass. She just wants to get stuff done, right? I sat there for about 45 minutes, not talking, feeling my life go by, as she repeatedly dragged a comb over my scalp, and with shaking hands, snipped the ends. It started to irritate my scalp and made it ache(it still aches as I’m writing this– weeeird) so after waiting for her to switch to a less abrasive method, I asked her«Hey, your comb is really hurting my scalp. Do you think we could switch to a buzzer and just buzz the back?» She was like«oh» the first time but didn’t really do anything and pretty much ignored me. About 10 minutes later I tell her again, suggesting the clipper. She goes to get it and I must have waited in that chair for 10 minutes. At this point I’m considering that she doesn’t know what I want, doesn’t care what I want, and just wants this to be over. I am then thinking about how not only will I have to pay for this, but I’ll have to pay for someone else to fix my hair the next day. Additionally, at the rate she was cutting, finishing my hair would have probably taken half an hour to an hour more. I finally got up and another student near me asked if everything was okay(btw if he reads this, I appreciate that he asked me) and I explained to him about what was happening. I feel bad because I don’t want to be that person who ~one little thing~ didn’t turn out right, so I have to make a fuss and leave. I walked out. I’m sorry, but if I’m uncomfortable and I’m growing increasingly uncomfortable, I’m not going to feel obliged to stay. I don’t care how bad my half-cut hair is, I’d rather wait it out a day or two before an appointment with someone who gives a damn than go past the point of salvageable with someone assigned to me. EDIT: Additionally, if I can go to SuperCuts and feel more comfortable, there’s something very wrong. It might also be that Fridays are just a really bad day for the Cosmetology Section.

This review is waaay overdue. Not to age myself but the Cosmetology Dept used to be located in a building that I’m not sure if it’s there anymore! they have moved a few times and now they are in a innovative, new modern building! I came here and since I think the gal that was suppose to cut was occupied they offered a free manicure! Nice! I say if you do the Hair School thing you have to know exactly what service you want.

Beware! You get what you pay for. I understand that this is a learning institution but every time I’ve come(3 haircuts), my experience has gotten worse and worse. Again, I understand these are students but I cannot fathom why my haircuts never turn out the way I expect. Each time, I give SIMPLE details(layer hair; don’t touch bangs; cut only 2 inches off), yet I always wind up with something else. What the heck? This is also after instructors have«approved» the students’ haircutting/styling plan. Regarding my most recent experience, not only did I not get what I asked for, I was given the roughest shampooing(the corner of my forehead was bleeding!) and scalp burn from being carelessly curled. Surprisingly, this happened while an instructor was watching. Come on now! Shouldn’t the instructors be more proactive in correcting their students’ mistakes? Why are such mistakes overlooked? Such occurrences would not be tolerated In the professional hair world. I wanted to scream my head off. Their receptionist was also super rude. I will never return. 1 star.

Skyline cosmetology is great! the teachers are very nice and helpful. The students really follow directions. The prices are so cheap too! I didn’t once worry that a student was doing my hair, because the teachers have it under control :)
