A+ Family Dentistry – San Diego

I came to this office after receiving a flyer in the mail welcoming new patients. The entire staff is actually very friendly. They took X-​rays and one of the dentists did a short assessment and took pictures. She told me I needed 9 fillings and that I had a terrible degree of gingivitis that’s needed laser therapy to remove plaque under my gums that was causing deeply embedded gym disease. I was terrified… I’m 28 years old and I go to the dentist every year. I have never been told I needed all this work. The dentist decided I wouldn’t have my teeth cleaned that day, that it would need to wait until she could clean it herself when I come back.
It wasn’t until I was taken into a small room and highly pressured to pay them about $ 2000 that I started to question the integrity of this office. I told this office rep that I simply could not afford this, she tried to pressure me into applying for a credit line to pay them with. I told her about 3 – 4 times that I was not going to apply for a line of credit to get dental work done. She continued to try to sell it to me, telling me that there was no interest for six months and showing me what my payment would be. I kept asking her to break down the costs and she wouldn’t… She wouldn’t even let me look at the print out she was looking at. I felt like I was being talked into buying a used vehicle.
I got a second opinion and it turns out, I don’t have gingivitis. And I don’t have cavities. I don’t need any work done. This office makes me sick… I hope future patients don’t get ripped off by them…

I went there for a discounted (with coupon) exam and cleaning. The dentist (one of the female dentists) tells me I had 2 caries which I should fill. Since I had been to a different dentist recently, I very much doubted that. Turns out NO CARRIES. I went back to the existing dentist with the number chart of the teeth, A+ said needed filling Nope. no problem.
So, nothing is free, nor discounted my friends. THIS UPSELL for non-​needed work is fraud in my book.
Really, if they were good, would they have the constant need to advertise and send mailers, the incessant calls reminding me to come again.
FOLLOW THIS ADVICE. GO TO A DENTIST THAT DOESN’T LIE TO YOU AND TRY TO MAKE MONEY AT YOUR EXPENSE. ONLY ANOTHER DENTIST CAN EVALUATE THE WORK DONE BY A PREVIOUS ONE. OTHERWISE, YOU ARE JUST GOING BY PERSONALITY. get a second opinion before handing money over to these gals.
Hundreds of dollars for a nice personality for unnecessary work. DON’T THINK SO

Dr. Janice and her team were extremely friendly and explained everything to me from day one. I’ve never had a dentist explain what they were doing while they were doing it and it made me feel much more comfortable. I’m happy to say they will be my first point of contact for any and all of my dental needs!

I have moved a lot and I am always hesitant about going to the dentist because I had some bad experiences in the past. when I moved to San Diego, I went to go see Dr.’ Doan on the recommendation of my friends who raved about how great their experience was with her. When I got there, I marveled at how great the office was! I have to agree with all the reviews– they are the nicest and gentlest dentist I have ever been to, and is so easy to talk to. I felt so comfortable going to them that I didn’t mind coming back to get my cavities filled and how technologically advanced the office was also. Being very cautious about what is done in my mouth, I love that they explain everything that is being done so that I know what is going on. It exudes honesty and professionalism. At the same time, they are quick and efficient. Outstanding office personnel.

This is the best dental office in this neighborhood. They got us to do what we need, not just what we wanted which is usually not sufficient. I believe they really place patient’s interests before the money which our family love.

My visits here have always been a great experience. Dr. Kaiser was wonderful and gentle. Their equipments are far better than other offices that I have gone to in the past. I came to see Dr Doan originally because I had an old filling fall out. I got an exam and found out I needed a root canal :(she e plainer everything so I understood why I needed and I got scheduled. The next day I went in and it went very smooth, I was in a little pain afterward but nothing that I couldn’t live with. The next day all the pain was gone. Staff is friendly as well!

After extensive oral reconstruction my teeth and gum health were in serious need of attention. Dr’s Doan put me on a path to recovery. To set expectations this is not something that will not happen overnight & requires home care which is important, if not more critical than Dr care. I’m happy to say that after several years in their care and with their guidance I have the best teeth & gum health of my life and I am on a path to keep my teeth healthy for the rest of my life. If you think that your teeth aren’t important, just do a quick Google and see the realities of poor dental health and the possible outcomes (i.e. Cancers & heart disease). Unequivocally I would recommend the Dr’s Doan and their care to take care of not only your teeth but you overall health!

I’m going to say that this is the best dental office i never been… The front office is great, dental assistants are very nice and friendly, the dentist are very good and they know what they doing, they explained to me what I need and why it was needed, I’m definitely bringing my son to them as well and referring my friends and family to this office. Thank you a plus dentistry.

My first visit was a WASTE OF TIME. Up front, all they talked about was getting my money (before I began filling the forms!). Front staff was very pushy and wanted me to pay for my X-​rays when I told them that I DIDN’T need them. I wanted to switch dentists and after my first visit here, I think my dentist deserves a 2^nd chance :/

I’ve been going here for 3+ years. They do great work, but even after this time I have been going they still use a lot of high pressure sales techniques, and I just got tired of it.
My first visit was in 2012 with a $ 75 coupon for cleaning and dental exam. I left paying over $ 2000 for the work. It was needed, but the pressure tactics/​horror stories about my teeth falling out/​are just unnecessary, and unprofessional.
My wife quit going 2 years ago after they had her in the office for an hour w/​3 people arguing with her. She caved and shelled out $ 4000.
The turnover is extremely high in the front office. No one seems to ever last more than a year. They ran out the best hygienist, Beth, that I’ve ever had in my life, and refused to give me a straight answer as to why…
It is understood that you pay professionals a premium for there time and service.
I need a dentist that cares more about me than my wallet.

I’ve only been here for 2 visits in as many years, but I like the doctor, hygienists, and staff because they’re very friendly and seemingly knowledgeable. I feel like they take good care of me and give good advice about oral hygiene, especially concerning permanent retainers and flossing. They email, call, and text you a lot to set up follow up appointments, but your teeth are worth it. Also, they’re a little bit pricey, but I feel like they do good work so it might be worth it. They did keep trying to have me do antibiotic treatments for my gums, but I had to tell them no. Also, at the end of my appointment they presented me to an administrator who laid out a long plan with plenty of expensive treatments for me to undergo in the future. I thanked them, but left with just a cleaning.

I was sad to see so many bad reviews here because I had such an amazing experience at this location!
I had a few fillings at my other dentist last month, and one of the teeth was in an incredible amount of pain that nothing would relieve; ice, Orajel, ibuprofen, Vicodin, and even the numbing shots the dentist put into my gum weren’t taking away the pain and it was the most unbearable pain I’ve ever dealt with. Upon going back, my dentist explained to me that the filling was so deep that it was affecting the nerve and that I would need an emergency root canal, something that he did not perform at his office. So I went home and went through a list of the dentists in my insurance network, and was getting increasingly more frustrated as it was a Saturday and all of the dentists were either closed, or not able to schedule me at such a short notice.
Finally, I called A+ Dentistry, and although they were completely booked up for the day, they were able to fit me in after I explained to them how much pain I was in. They were so pleasant and welcoming, and stayed late after hours to do my root canal so that I wouldn’t have to deal with the pain anymore. I can’t say enough about how kind and understanding everyone in the office was, and how much I appreciate them creating time for me.
As far as the complaints about cost… the root canal was a little under $ 1300.00, which is obviously expensive, however it is not affecting my review because I assume it’s around the same price as this procedure at any other dental location. And as for people getting upset about extra services and costs being suggested to them… any business, whether dental or other, is going to try to upsell as their goal is to make money. All you have to do is say No Thank You!

STAY AWAY!!! I found this place on my insurance provider list, I was new to the area and gave them a shot. On first impressions it seemed too good to be true. The staff is very kind and pleasant to talk to. I had a few fillings done, routine work from what I thought. 2 weeks after the fillings I began to experience pain, all my life I’ve never needed more than a filling until I went here. Well long story short after 2 more visits it was determined they didn’t get everything from my cavity and filled it. Now I need a root canal and crown that they said would cost $ 2500. All they would do is give me $ 130 credit for the botched filling.
They try to increase cliental by pedaling $ 5 and $ 25 gift cards for referrals. Do yourself a favor and keep your distance from this place. I wish I had.

After a tooth cleaning they proceeded to tell me I had 9 cavities and immediately started pressuring me into massive finance plan to pay for it, to the point where they were even being trying to force me to let them know within a week if I would decide to pay or not. I felt like I was being pressured by a used car salesman.

They made me a mouthguard something I didn’t request, and if was asked I would have said No. They told me it was already made and that it was going to have to be paid for by my insurance deductible. It was super annoying the lack of transparency.
