Let’s face it, the San Diego music scene has its issues. Just look at how many singer songwriters and bands who make LA their furthest southern stop when touring through California. Maybe it’s because there is just too damn much going here, lack of fan loyalty, an abundance of Jason Mraz clones, or simply not enough quality music. Yet every once in a while you see a musician who is much more than just a musician. Aaron Bowen is one of those people. He is an artist. A creator of sonic landscapes and intricate melodies that are painted into personal songs told through his unique style of writing. Most people are either great singers or great musicians, but few can do both well. Aaron is one of those exceptions.

He’s local. He’s awesome. With heartfelt tunes and witty banter, Aaron never fails to entertain. Well worth a listen, and even better in person!

Aaron Bowen is a local San Diego singer/songwriter who can often be found entertaining crowds of loyal fans at Lestat’s West in Normal Heights. Aaron was the opener a couple years back at Lestat’s when I first heard him play. I had never heard of him before, but I was immediately hooked on his unique brand of music. He’s got that special talent to transform the ambiance of a room with just his voice and his guitar. His funny comments and observations between songs are always entertaining, too! Some of his influences(ripped directly from his myspace page!) include: Brian Wilson, George Gershwin, Hoagy Carmichael, The Beatles, Rufus Wainwright, Stevie Wonder, Jamiroquai, Paul Simon, DJango Reinhardt, Leonard Bernstein, and Teddy Thompson. Check out the link to his myspace page where you can see pictures and hear sample songs. Once you’re hooked(like I know you will be!) — go find a spot to hear him play live.
