Stopped by here after running errands. The prices of the sandwiches and salads are fairly high. Case in point, a turkey day sandwich, cookie, and hand crafted soda pop ran me about $ 14. Its obvious they do use high quality deli and ingredients. What got me was the wait time. A to go order cost me 20 minutes. It also was not super busy. I dont know how they process the sandwiches but a few people who ordered well after me got their orders and were on their merry way. The sandwich itself was good and so was the cookie. I may try to call ahead next time to see if they do phone orders. They also appear to have a butcher shop in their kitchen area.

Absolutely adore this place. The staffs are incredibly friendly and wonderful. I ordered the Avocado Highway with added salmon and it was amazing. However maybe I’m too picky with my sandwich but the tomatoes slices were too thick for my taste. This is my only dislike of the place, everything else was fantastic. This is definitely a great simple place for lunch and I would definitely come back when I’m in the area.

Oh, yes. BFD is my favorite sandwich shop in San Diego, and I am a foodie. The Avocado Highway(with bacon) is an awesome choice. I also enjoy the Deep V. The SOS(sandwich of the season) changes constantly, but the times I’ve tried it, it’s been great! One time it was some sort of chicken sandwich with brussel sprouts and a mustard aioli — YUM. Another time it was a crab cake sandwich — AWESOME! I’ve also had the salads from here which are good. I am disappointed in their iced tea — I’ve tried it a couple times and it tastes a little overbrewed. And their straws are a weird consistency(honestly, I don’t know how to describe it!) which makes the iced tea taste kind of strange. There is not much seating — you will likely end up sharing the large table with random other smaller groups, but that’s okay. You can also call in a take out order, which is easier. The employees are friendly and prices are okay. Parking is street parking only, but usually you can find a spot with no trouble as there are angled spots lining the front of the building. Limited seating and blah iced tea aside, the delicious sandwiches still make this a 5-star sandwich place!

I came here for the first time today and let me say I was very impressed with the food and the customer service. A man named Ellis helped me today in deciding what I should order since I had never been before. He asked what I liked and recommended I get the avocado highway with bacon. It was delicious! I would definitely come back again.

Kind of disappointed. Just moved in next door, was told great things by friends that live in the neighborhood. They were moderately busy, there were three people working behind the counter and I stood there for 5 minutes without anyone acknowledging me. No greeting, no what can i get for you, nothing. Sad! So i left and went to Sprouts and got a sandwich that probably wasn’t a good as theirs was, but was $ 3.99 and they seemed more interested in my business.

Ooo yea folks! Craving a sandwich for lunch? Stop by BFD! A myriad of sandwiches to choose from as well as salads and soups. I devoured the B3 and savored the chocolate pistachio cookie. My day is complete. Excellent service and relax communal style seating. Good for vegans too!

This place is amazing!!! Great customer service, and the sandwiches are wonderful. I had the avocado avalanche(i think thats the name). It had so much avocado just the way I like it. I got it with smoked salmon which was a little salty but still very good.

Good food. And great staff. Very friendly. They closed at 8pm and I called a to go order around 750pm. They were still able to accommodate. Got the duck cranberry salad. It was good but I was hoping for great! Duck was a little dry and my salad had too many walnuts. However I’m hopeful to try it again in the future. I’ve been here before and they have great sandwiches and sides. Macaroni salad is to die for!

Pretty good caprese sandwich, although in general, kind of pricey. We got an order to-go, but by Saturday mid-day, there were out of certain sides already, which was a bummer. I got the cucumber salad instead, which had a kick and was pretty good. Also, we ordered a cookie, but somehow they gave us the wrong one.

Holy moly this place is good. Fresh, good quality lunch meat. The lemon vinaigrette dressing and the turkey breast were SOGOOD! I have celiac and lactose intolerance and they were able to modify my salad dish very easily. They also offered to make me a sandwich on gluten free bread if I bought it from sprouts next door. But they don’t have Gf bread in-house.

A bit over priced for the sandwiches. I feel like I could go to sprouts right next door and buy and use the same ingredients and make my own sandwiches. And the taste of them is relatively decent. But overall the service and the atmosphere of the BFD is casual and easygoing. I would try again

Sandwiches were delicious and filling! Looks like the best way to order is to call ahead of time, as the sandwiches do take awhile to prepare, especially when they are busy. Everything is fresh. The side options looked good too, but didn’t have room to fit them in. Prices are a little higher than average, so be prepared for that as well.

Went here for lunch yesterday and it was just alright. My biggest issue was that there is nowhere to sit. They have one table inside and a couple outside but its just not enough for the amount of people they are serving. We waited almost 45 minutes just for a table to open up. The food was mediocre. My parents got the turkey day sandwich and they didn’t like it at all. I tried it and also wasn’t impressed. My husband and I shared the Cuban, it just tasted like most Cubans, nothing special or different. The potatoes salad was the worst part of the meal. Not good at all. Overall just a generic sandwich place.

We’ve had their catering services in our office several times now. The sandwiches are gigantic and they don’t skimp on the meat. We usually just get sandwiches and salads but today they added a cold Asian sesame noodle dish. My favorite salad is the Southwest salad. It has corn, black bean, jicama, Jack cheese and an orange vinaigrette. The noodle dish was really flavorful. I had to get use it being cold but it was great. I haven’t ventured into the actual store front but I hope to check it out soon. It’s a great family owned store and the food is awesome. Check this place out!

Yeah, I’m a fan. Met here for lunch today with some likeminded SD foodies. They’d been before so recommended some great sammies. And there were some serious choices. I started with the Loins of Fire(Trivia: That was my high school nickname). Very tasty. I also tried the baby back rib sammich, the OFT(you have no right to call that a sandwich!), the ginger pulled pork, the meatloaf and the Eggplant Ball(tasted like a big ol’ meatball to me). And I tried 2 or 3 others, too. The table was a mess! They also offer about 8 sides: I tried the chipotle potato salad; good but not spicy. A buddy tried the jalapeño cucumber and said it had a bite to it. I saw three good looking cookies but was too full to even attempt it. Prices for hot sandwiches are between $ 9.50 and $ 11.75. Sides were $ 1.75 for the small size. Soda in a can is $ 1.35. Beer available for take-out only. Staff were pleasant and helpful. Highly recommended if you’re a sandwich fanatic. Note: There’s one big, long table indoors that will seat maybe 20 close friends. And some small outdoor tables, too.

Haven’t actually come to this restaurant but my friend suggested it for take out and she did not disappoint! Again, sorry i can’t say much for service/parking/restaurant but their sandwiches were delicious. I ordered the Wasabi Beef(roast beef, sesame seed, scallion, red bell pepper, pea sprout, wasabi aioli, soy ginger sauce, torpedo for $ 10.50) and it was so good. The portions were humongous and I probably could have saved half of it but I’m a fatty so I consumed the whole thing. All the ingredients seemed really fresh and the wasabi wasn’t too overbearing. I definitely plan on returning to this place and trying out all their other sandwiches!

I walk by this place all the time and always think… I could use a good sandwich. For some insane reason I never go in. I finally did one day and I wanted to kick myself. First of all it took me about a million years to decide what to get on the menu. Everything sounded SOSOGOOD! I settled on a good old meatloaf sandwich and was definitely NOT disappointed. It was so delicious I almost went in and ordered a second even though I was far too full. Each of my friends got a different sandwich and every bite I tried(yes i’m one of those«give me a bite!» guys) was also delicious. Nice little spot, not huge inside, but they put tables out on the side walk so there was plenty of seating the day I went. I’ll be back for sure to make my way through every single menu item!

You know that particular meal your Mom or Grandma will make you, and it’s just so dang soothing and delicious? Well BFD is just that. It’s not a sandwich that you can ever make yourself that will ever taste this good! My new fave for a quick bite made with love and quality!

This is my first ever Unilocal review but I feel like it was necessary. It saddens me to say, Big Front Door, which used to be one of my most frequent sandwich spots, has gone all the way downhill. How hard is it to make a decent sandwich. I mean really?! I will not be returning to this restaurant anytime soon, if ever. I ordered the Avocado Highway, packed full of the best ingredients, and… Completely inedible. The portion of bread was tiny compared to the filling inside of the sandwich which made it virtually impossible to eat without making a giant mess. The Parmesan crisp was… Stale?(I don’t know how else to describe it) and it was just overall sloppy and extremely unsatisfying. I couldn’t even finish it. I will post a photo so you can see what I mean. I don’t know if BFD is under new ownership but their quality and thoughtfulness has taken a turn for the worst. Their sandwiches aren’t cheap either! I would have much rather saved my money and made myself a sandwich at home. DISAPPOINTED is an understatement.
