Boomerang For Modern, I consider San Diego’s flagship midcentury modern shop. David allows you to browse his extensive inventory without the sales pitch. However he is prompt to answer any questions you may have. His three story space is easy to navigate and to experience each piece. Vignettes are arranged to facilitate visualizing the pieces in your own space. I appreciate David’s inventory, his expertise and demeanor. Perhaps this combination keeps me returning on monthly pilgrimages.

What a great place! I just moved here from out of state and needed some swanky stuff. Got a parking spot right out front. Met David the owner, he was very helpful. I found the prices to be very fair for the high quality of goods in this store. I’ll be back for sure!

From the retro font on the cool ‘Boomerang’ sign on the roof of this three story, cozy, modern designed shop to the cool jazz music playing as I entered, I seriously felt like I had just stepped into the Mad Man era. The place is packed with incredibly cool vintage original pieces and re-issues with an emphasis on designs by Herman Miller. There are many of his iconic chairs currently featured in a 15% off sale that goes through mid-June. But even though I loved most every piece here, a sale of much more epic proportions would be needed for me to ever nab any of these items. A Miller can set you back a couple thousand dollars for the most basic, simple chair. This, of course, isn’t news to those familiar with these pieces– but to someone like me(an IKEA man out of necessity), the sticker shock is still daunting. I’d love to have some of these pieces but just flat-out can’t afford them. Looking though? That is free. And the Boomerang owner David was incredibly polite and offered a zero pressure, kicked back, friendly approach. Each floor of this tri-level shop has a relatively small footprint but the items are smartly arranged and easy to peruse. There are some amazingly cool wall hangings and retro wall clocks — most also priced in the high several hundred dollar range– but nonetheless dripping with Don Draper cool. I loved pretty much everything I saw, was treated well and definitely enjoyed the visit. Still, even for those who can afford these items, I just feel these things are so astronomically priced. I love this period so much but seem consigned to live my life surrounded by IKEA approximations of it. Which, I was actually feeling just fine about – until I saw all this cool stuff at Boomerang for Modern!

A candy store for the Mid-Century afflicted, and whether you are making a major investment or just popping in to say hello, the reception is guaranteed to be as warm. The owner, David, is just one of the nicest guys you’ll ever meet and his knowledge of the era unsurpassed. This is quite simply my favourite shop in San Diego.

Oh how I DO love this little mid-century modern collective! Every piece of furniture in this little establishment steals my heart! The owner of the shop is super friendly and knowledgeable. I may have to open a separate savings account just for Boomerang so that I can splurge here once in a while!

I recently bought an Eames molded plywood lounge chair from David Skelley. It’s walnut, and quite a substantial piece. First off, love the chair. It’s perfect in every way. Second, David was absolutely awesome. Super knowledgable, incredibly friendly, perfect customer service. He was spot on with every inch of the transaction and delivery. I can’t wait to do more business with him. If you’re into modern furniture, get on his mailing list. He updates with new local finds as they come up to the market.

Great showcase of Herman Miller and Knoll pieces. Owner is always friendly and leaves you alone to wander around the different floors. Always has a great selection of Nelson clocks upstairs. Whenever I’m in the area I try to stop in and see if there is anything new in stock.

Bottom line, the best shop for modern furnishings in San Diego. David has been at it for many years. He has a vast amount of knowledge, an incredible eye, and great taste! When you walk into his shop, you are instantly aware of the transformation from the noisy exterior world into a calm, beautifully-designed space. We have been buying furnishings from David for a while now, and we are definitely customers for life.

A legend as far as mid-century modern shops go. They have been around since 1985 and it keeps getting better. They carry vintage and new items. The vintage stuff comes and goes fast! Everything is quality and in perfect condition. The owner knows his stuff.
