This company, mostly Claudette Cooper, is the worst! I was a tenant in a location that was kept in poor conditions. During a storm in San Diego my fence blew over into my neighbors fence and it took almost a month for them to get rid of the fence and build a new one. Also, during the same storm, mice got into our garage. We contacted them and told them about the problem and it took them a month to even look into it. I let my dog into the garage and she took care of the mice problem, but it should have really been the management company. The only reason they did look into it is because we complained to the landlords directly who didn’t know about the problem. The landlords were lovely people (as far as I know) but this woman is a money grubbing shark.
I have countless examples of how unhelpful she was (from having to pay for our own plumbing issues, paying for our own repairs, her having people over at our rental without letting us know in advance) and how disrespectful she was during our tenure in that rental.
Our security deposit was deducted significantly with false claims. She told us that there was a spot on the carpet that smelled bad and we must have let our dog potty all over the house. 1.) My dog is a service dog, 2.) we had proof of the stain in our move in pictures that showed it existed before we even moved in. We had to go back and forth showing them proof of how they were wrong about the claims she made. We did have to eat the $ 500 steam cleaning charge of the blinds. Even though during walk through, she never told us that is something we had to do.
I hate her with every fiber of my being. If she was on fire, and I had water in my hand, I’d drink it.
Don’t use her! Even the landlords were upset we had so many issues!

For property owners and tenants alike, I would not recommend Ms. Cooper or her company. I was a three-​year tenant when Ms. Cooper took over managing the apt. When Ms. Cooper took over, I was preparing to move out at the end of my lease, a few months away. The moment she stepped into the picture, a s**t storm ensued, completely destroying the respectful, friendly three-​year professional relationship I had with my landlord, the property owner.
Ms. Cooper lacks professional judgment and people skills. While this business is not my area of expertise, I would think it would behoove a new property manager looking to show an apartment to prospective tenants to have an amicable relationship with the current tenant (who would be living there while she shows the apartment during her search for a new tenant). Ms. Cooper took another route, and displayed a complete and total lack of professional judgment in this regard. Rather than playing nice for her own benefit and the benefit of her property owner, she assumed the charisma of an angry pit bull at the outset. Rather than create an ally, even a phony one, she chose to create severe animosity, causing unnecessary problems for herself. She motivated me to research the law and assert all of my rights as a tenant, which I normally would not have done. Had she plastered on a smile and feigned professional courtesy, I would have been passive putty in her hands. Whether this is Ms. Cooper’s lack of people skills or her lack of professional judgment (or a combination), I cannot say, but I have never experienced such jaw-​dropping disrespect as Ms. Cooper showed me.
Lastly, Ms. Cooper exhibited many unethical tendencies, such as trying to convince me that I did not have certain rights as a tenant which I discovered I had; using bullying tactics to get me to comply with demands that directly violated my rights as a tenant; retaining money that was not transferred to her, but was unintentionally transferred to the property owner; over-​charging me for rent, even after being informed of the «miscalculation»…
Maybe Ms. Cooper’s personality and tactics serve her well as a real estate agent, who knows. But as far as a position that requires creating and maintaining amicable professional relationships is concerned, she’s a bull in a china shop.

My wife and I have had Claudette as our property manager for the past year at the Discovery building in Cortez Hill. We loved working with her and her assistant Maria. That’s why I found the two negative reviews listed to be such a surprise. So I decided I would copy/​paste my email to her today upon giving our 30 day notice. We are moving into a larger place, in a different building. I didn’t want to list our personal information, so I simply copied the pertinent information from that email. I think this says it all really. My experience with Claudette and her team was completely the opposite of the previous two reviews, which appear to go hand in hand. I would definitely recommend Claudette to anyone who is looking to buy, sell or rent. See below:

Let me qualify this by saying as an avid Unilocal user, I rarely post a poor review, however in this case the lack of professionalism has compelled me to write in hopes that your future tenants are not debased by this company.
For three years, my bf has rented a condo in the Cortez Blue complex in downtown San Diego, and during that time, he maintained good relations with his landlord, until approximately 2 months ago when this management company and a woman named Claudette took over the management of the condo.
The first communications concerned his leaving of the condo. He was offended by her abrasiveness and put off by her lack of respect. I stuck up for her at first, stating, that as a real estate agent she was just doing her job to put the house on the market. My opinion of her quickly changed when she continued to write emails with impudence and abrasiveness. Rather than establish a professional relationship, she approached the situation unpleasantly, submitting demand after demand.
In violation of California landlord/​tenant laws, she demanded a walk through of the apartment. We notified her of applicable laws, but in attempt to accommodate her needs scheduled a time for her to come over. I helped him clean up the apartment a bit and went to the local coffee shop while she came to do the walk through.
The minute she walked in, she gasped and started commenting on the carpet and this and that. No hello, no introductions. She hostilely commented on things and left within 10 minutes. A followup email quickly arrived in which she accused him of serious allegations amounting to breaches of a lease that would get a tenant evicted.
Now, the apartment is kept in great condition except for 2 minor things. FIrst, the carpets are stained in the heavy traffic areas, however, both bedrooms have immaculate carpet with not one stain. Secondly, the corner floor panel on the bottom of the wall is a bit chewed from when I visited and brought my puppy. I consider myself a clean freak, and undoubtedly can say that a professional carpet cleaner can clean the carpet and the chewed floor board is a $ 100 repair. Both things that he has arranged to have complete before his move out date.
Rather than simply state her concerns with the apartment, she «firmly» (as she puts it) demanded that he do this and this before the end of June because she needed to show the apartment to future tenants. Again, this is a violation of California law. A landlord is not allowed to perform a final inspection before the tenant moves out and demand that carpets be cleaned and threaten to withhold deposits and take other measures. Unless the tenant requests it, this is not permitted. And, he never requested it. Despite these violations, and brash introduction to his new landlord, he agreed to have it cleaned before he moved out.
And although these truculent emails continued, he agreed to allow her to show the apartment to new tenants. The first showing was about a week ago. He was with me in LA, and we drove down early that morning to clean the apartment for her. And let me say we are both studying for the bar exam, which is in less than a month, and a fact that she is aware of. Despite this, we spent an hour thoroughly cleaning the apartment from the stove to the toilets for the 1:30pm appointment. Come 1:30, nothing. 1:35, nothing. 1:40, nothing. Finally, we send an email. Nothing. Not until over an hour after the scheduled appointment time does Claudette notify him that the tenant was a no show, and a waste of time but probably better «since the carpets weren’t cleaned yet.»
Excuse me. You wait an hour to notify a person that you are not showing up to your appointment and think this is professional? And then on top of that you insert snide remarks. .. .? We spent hours cleaning and waiting to accommodate you. No apology, no appreciation for our time. Discourteous and unmannerly.
I could go on and on with examples of this audacious person, but will end here with this: I must say that an uncongenial manager that disrespects and aggressively asserts her requests is not a great for maintaing landlord-​tenant relations.

I never write reviews, but for the first time I feel like it’s very necessary to comment on how rude and unprofessional Claudette Cooper has been. She has been rude from the start. She hasn’t apologized for a single mistake or allegation she has made, and has only become more overwhelmingly condescending. I don’t know if she felt she could walk all over me because I was a young tenant (25) or she’s this unprofessional towards every tenant, but I was incredibly polite and accommodating when she first contacted me. I moved into a new apartment building where management goes out of its way to be accommodating, polite, and pleasant, which has ultimately motivated me to write this review.
