Fresh, fresh, fresh. Don’t compare it to subway, don’t even think about subway. Don’t stand there behind the glass telling them what you do/do not want on your sandwich after just filling out a very detailed order form. We’ve been here a couple times. They always have this great deal going on of two big sandwiches for $ 10.99. I’ve had the pastrami which was great and the pizza sub which I wasn’t a fan of, but their friendly employees and fresh bread really makes up for that

First time getting sandwich here. Got a footlong and it was huge. Bread was very soft. Got the vegetarian sandwich with avocado. The sandwich was good but sadly it didnt have much inside. Just a ton of avocado. I forgot I had gotten onion because it barely had any. Along with all the other things. I think if I came back id get a smaller sandwich. Mainly because I dont think its worth paying for a bigger size to not get much for it

Best place to get a hardy, delicious, and fresh deli sandwich! My family has been going here since I was a kid. Now as a fully fledged full time adult, I still love going here! Not only is this place nostalgic for me, but the subs are at a ridiculously great price for how big the subs are. When you arrive, you pick up a paper and build your own order(you can select on the paper what toppings and sauces you’d like) I always order a #11 with practically everything. Avocado is a small extra price but you get huge slices! The meal deal is great too! I loved the sub shop when I was growing up but I’m very impressed with the new décor of the place! I do miss the original owner(his grandkids have taken over these last few months) who’d genuinely enjoy talking to you, some of the new employees there won’t crack a smile.

I been going to this place for a little over 7 years now. I work in the this area doing house calls and this was one of my regular spots to have lunch at. Sai(owner) made great subs and I was very satisfied with the price and the food, unfortunately, Sai is no longer there and has retired.
He gave the shop to his grandchildren who are now running it. They have updated the décor and did some remodeling, but the quality of the subs have gone way way down. Before, the subs were so full of meat and vegi’s, sometimes it would be difficult to even fit the sandwich in your mouth. Now, the subs are sad. They look like someone sat on them before they give time to you and if you’re lucky, you might get 2 slices of meat. I hope the new owners realize what kept Sai in business for all these years. It wasn’t how good the place looked, it was what customers put in their stomachs.

This place is INFINITELY better than Subway, especially now knowing Subway uses chicken meat that has been treated with antibiotics(yuck!). 2 large subs(12″) for $ 10.99 is a great deal. Fresh bread, freshly sliced meat and cheese, and many vegetables to choose from. To order a sandwhich you just fill out a small form(similar to Which Wich if you’ve ever been) with all the ingredients you want, pay, then they make it! They also have a selection of sandwiches if you’re not sure what to put on yours. Friendly staff, which I’m pretty sure are all related. It’s great being able to support a small business with a great product!

Came back after a few months. The original owner retired and passed the shop to his grand– daughter. The interior got a face lift and looks great and the subs are still OUTSTANDING! Looks like they’re adding a few more to the menu as well. Definitely better then any other shop. I’ll be back very soon to try their new sandwiches.

Came back for a visit after a few months of absence. Didn’t know the original owner retired. However, I tried the sandwich anyways and right off the bat I noticed a decrease in quality of the sub. Delivery and organization of the fixings are not as nice as how the original owner did it. And oddly, it doesn’t have the same sort of charm it once had. Seems empty without Camalito there. I don’t know if I will be coming back.

Great new owners, the sandwiches are still great but, the service is way better. It wasn’t bad before but, I never knew what I wanted and the new owners help me. I love their cookies and Mac salad. There are four other sandwhich shops around this area and this is by far the best!

My dad and I tried this place on a whim. It looked like a hole in the wall from the outside, which is interesting. Inside, however, was a picture of perfection. Probably the cleanest food establishment i have ever set foot in on El Cajon Blvd. The staff was attentive and professional. The method of ordering your sandwich is pretty cool, too. You tell them the basic sandwich you want, and attached to the bag is a tag with all the fixings that you can check off to add. There was a lot of attention that went into the making of the sandwich. They even slice the meat right there on the spot in front of you! What a cool concept. It takes a couple extra moments for your order to be complete, but totally worth it. Check this place out!

My grandfather used to bring me to the sub shop when I was younger, it was essentially unbeatable. The original owner was an absolutely nice man who made huge and amazing subs at a great price. Unfortunately the original owner retired and the grandkids who inherited it have started skimping on meat and cheese. They are starting to resemble Subway subs but on much larger bread, making them look rather comical. I really hope the new owners take note, and realize what kept their grandfather in business all these years in an extremely competitive market.

Let me start off that I have been coming here for 10 years and never had a problem. But recently the original owner retired and he left it to his grandkids which is nice for him but sad for us. I have been back to this shop twice within the last couple of weeks and though the pricing is the same the quality is not. The first time I came back with new ownership there was not as much deli meat on the sandwich as usual but I chalked that up to it being cut thinner. This last time there just was not enough meat to call it a sandwich. I don’t know what kind of changes they are implementing but they need to revert back to how this place stayed in business for the last 20 years and only change the look and maybe add items and not minus them. I have talked to others who work in the area and they also feel it has not changed for the best.

Wonderful subs and super friendly service! The two-fer is an excellent deal. The only knock is the potato salad, which is not tasty, but at only like 85 cents, I’ll let that slide!

My favorite sandwich spot in San Diego! Maybe anywhere. Not only are their sandwiches always delicious and fresh, but the size of their footlongs are huge(much bigger than a Subway footlong). It is also ridiculously affordable and owned by the sweetest couple. I love hole in the wall, family-owned places. Their food and service never disappoint!

Enjoy coming here when I am starving. I live nearby this place and whenever I am hungry, I come here. I tried their Seafood sub which is imitation crab with mayo and it was definitely delicious! I would say that it is located in a random place because there’s not much people around walking.

My little hole in the wall sandwich shop. I love it! I’ve been here a few times and every time I’ve always had a fresh fresh sandwich. Another nice little find via Unilocal. The business is family owned and operated. The little old lady and man are awesome(maybe they need to be a little friendlier at times) but hey, Iove this place! The prices and the freshness of their sandwiches is what keeps bring me back. The competition in this area is steep. You got Jersey Mike’s and Capriotti’s across the street and Cheba hut a block down. But this place beats this places with prices and great taste hands down! Every sandwich we’ve tried has been awesome. Here’s a quick little break down; PRO’s: Great prices, fresh ingredients(bread, meats, vegetables), nice clean shop, good customer service, and good location. CON’s: 50 cent transaction fees(I always minus a star for any business who passes on business fees to it’s customers, common now it’s 2015!), parking is atrocious — their parking lot is so tiny!

Best sub spot in San Diego. HUGE sandwiches and great sides. You can’t find a better deal then the 2 foot longs for $ 9. Great ownership. RIP Tony Gwynn

This place is delicious! I have been going there for about 2 years now and it is amazing. The owners are good people, they really make everything fresh and it’s always quick. My favorite is the turkey, bacon, avocado with bbq chips and a coke zero. It is cheaper than subway and the portions are big, the half is enough for me.

The $ 5 lunch combo is much more fulfilling than anything you could buy at a chain sub restaurant, however, they don’t have cheddar cheese! Otherwise, it’s good. I’d much rather support mom & pop shops like this =)

The owners are really sweet and nice. Their efficient ordering system for toppings on each sub is by far my favorite. And usually the subs are very slim on the meat but there is a options for extra meat. You can’t beat two overly size subs for 8.95. I recommend circling extra meat on this deal.
