I was hoping to volunteer here. Called, no call back. Stopped by. Stinky front waiting area. Sad vibe. Strict volunteering rules– which is a pro an a con. Really un-excited about potential volunteers. I guess they feel residents have plenty of love and attention?

My mother was at this facility for about 6 weeks recovering from a hip replacement. The staff was wonderful!!! She was very happy here and I was very pleased with everything. While the food is not exactly great — it’s NOT a restaurant and they seem to do the best they can and she could even order peanut butter and jelly or grilled cheese instead of what was offered. She had another fall and I called them yesterday — they went out of their way to find her a bed and get her admitted again. They even helped me find an ambulance service to come to my home and get her transferred. When she arrived they all remembered her and made her feel at home. I am very happy with this facility and give them five BIG stars. Thank you so much!!!

My parents moved into Emeritus Carmel Valley last February and we have found the staff to be extremely caring and attentive to my parents’ needs. They have been great at communicating with us after a few initial hiccoughs. My father recently passed away and we were very touched by the way the community and staff rallied around my mother and my family. These caregivers have a very difficult job and they do it well at Emeritus. Fortunately we live nearby, so my mother gets a lot of attention from us as well, and I’m sure it makes it better for her. We can also keep an eye on things and be there quickly when necessary. Having the skilled nursing on-site made this a great place for my parents because they could visit with each other when my dad was recovering from surgery and in hospice. Eventually, my mom will take advantage of the memory care unit as well. I think that living on the first floor offers more activity and interaction for the resident and I would recommend it. The location is also very close to a nice shopping plaza that is a great place for an outing with your loved ones. Although I do agree with the comments about the food — thus the four stars — I have to believe that the age and dietary needs of these residents makes it challenging to offer the kind of varied menu that would be found at an independent living facility.

I have had my mother in the memory care unit for close to a year now and she has acclimated very well and joined the community there due to the warm helpful staff. We have been very pleased with all the services excluding the food. I agree it is like a poor cafeteria with nothing redeeming about the food offered. This is the only improvement I can recommend.

Pros: Lots if physical therapy, really push the residents to stay active. Nice staff that try hard but doesn’t appear to have allocated properly. Cons: Food is like a bad cafeteria, they don’t follow the nutritional guidelines assigned to the patient. Giving diabetics regular food, doctor ordered fluids for hydration instead they served coffee. Watched patients wait ½hr for restroom. Looks like a cheap hotel, rundown in most places. Odd considering this is Del Mar, my grandmother has been to 3 assisted living home in the last 3 months as we’re trying them out. this was the least favorite. Aegis in Vista was much nicer and homier feeling.
