Friendly staff. Convenient location. Great rewards program. This place is everything game stop or best buy isn’t. Skip the drive and stay right in PB next time you’re buying a video game.

First off, I don’t write many reviews but had to for Games On. I’m used to Electronics Boutique and GameStop type shops when it comes to video games. However, this store is leagues beyond its competitors. Second, and most important, the staff is extremely friendly, helpful and knowledgeable. If you have any problems or questions, they will be glad to find a solution! The store itself has an amazing layout. It’s very clean and easy to find whatever game you might need/want. I highly recommend, at the very least, taking a look around Games On!

This is my video gamer geek review. No boardgames or chain stores here, just my button mashing, n00b fragging, no-scope headshotting review of Games On. For as many times as I have strolled [or stumbled, ahem] past their store front at night, I really wasn’t sure what was going on, but but the window dressings that changed either monthly or seasonally always caught my eye. Whether it be a theme on an upcoming game release, back-to-school theme, or a festive Thanksgiving cornucopia, the displays in front of Games On are fun and creative. Street parking was difficult today, so I parked in the back alley across from Bar West. It’s free for customers. I finally got the opportunity to visit Games On in the daytime and was pleasantly surprised with the open layout. It’s very comfortable being able to move about the store without having to step around or squeeze by another customer. There is always a Rockband setup with the flat screen in the front of the store if you’d like to try out the newest gaming instruments or just wanna jam out with some friends, if it’s not too busy, someone from the store might fill a spot in your band. There are also flat screen monitors in the middle of the store with a featured new release if you want to try before you buy. The store associates are super friendly and willing to help out with any questions. I enjoy the casual atmosphere to explore, stay and play either the video games or even a coin-op pinball machine. What really impressed me is that the owners are available and are avid gamers themselves. They’ll be happy to give you their opinion about all the games they’ve played if you need appropriate suggestions. Parents, if you’re looking to get the hottest games of the year for your kids, or if you’re a girlfriend/wife that wants to suprise your special gamer guy with an epic gift, then Games On is the right place for you.

Great to have a local shop in pacific beach. The service and selection is excellent. They always have rock band out for some good unwinding time if you’re ever passing by. Trade Ins/Used purchase system is also a superb deal.

Growing up with parents that owned a local restaurant, I always appreciate local business’s that stand out. Games on has really stood out to me enough to write a great review for them! I bought an XBOX360 Elite for the same price as everywhere else, but instead of being forced to take the 2 lame games that the console comes with they gave me the option to choose 2 out of this pile, which included a good selection. I ended up having a problem with the part that hooks the console up to the internet about two months after I purchased it and was forced to send my console to xbox. THEYGAVEME A NEW360ELITE out of the box to use during my wait for the repaired unit to come back! I don’t think any of the big name retailers would be able to do anything like that! HANDSDOWNTHEBESTCUSTOMERSERVICEYOUWILLFIND! If you live in PB, MB, or any of the surrounding areas and don’t want to put up with the crowds and crappy customer service this is your place!

In a world full of Gamespots and EB Games, Games On is on a completely different planet. With a full catalog, a slick store, decent trades, and upcoming events this locally and independently owned store is my new game retailer. Their catalog is large, but in contrast to other game retailers, they only carry this generation titles.(Wii, PS3, Xbox 360, DS, and PSP).This doesn’t limit their selection however, as you’ll find almost any game you’re looking for. Thankfully they don’t stock too much shovelware, meaning almost everything there is worth at least a look. The prices are the same you’ll find at any other retailer, so there’s no indy tax, and sometimes they’re even lower. I’ve found the owner extremely friendly and knowledgeable, always ready to ask you what style of games you like and then showing you titles you may have never considered(Space Invaders Extreme for the DS is awesome). There are a few other staff members as well who are just as friendly and helpful. The store space itself is striking, with lots of natural light brighting up a spacious green and bamboo décor that makes it more art studio than game store. In the front they have a large HDTV with comfy chairs and couches for you to demo games on, no kiosk with sticky controllers here, and there’s almost always someone playing Rock Band for all the passersby on Garnet to see. They do accept trades, but only for this generation and only for store credit. This may sound like not much of a deal, but they give you at least 55% value, and sometimes more if the title is higher quality. Oddly though I haven’t seen any used games in the store, I’m guessing since they’re relatively new they are either building up a stock or are re-selling them online. I have a feeling once they’re up and running more they’ll start expanding these services more. While there you’ll notice that the back of the store is underused at the moment, this is because they’re planning on creating game rooms for tournaments and other events. Besides some of the boardgame stores in SD, I haven’t seen many other places that do this type of geek social event and I’m excited for when they start. If you’re a gamer looking for this generation titles and want a more friendly and local experience this is the place. And hey, it’s only a minute walk to the beach, I dare you to find any other game store in the country that has that going for it.
