Came here for a sushi fix with my cousin and his gf. The rolls are pretty good but pretty average. The service was not great. We were waiting a lot and it was hard to flag someone down and then when we tried to get someone’s attention we realized the guy with the rude reaction was the owner… Not the best impression.

Got the Mango roll, tuna roll, beer, cocktail, sashimi, everything tasted great! It’s hard to keep fish fresh. But some places, like this can! So that’s why I’m giving it 5stars.

Poor. Extremely slow and not that good. Don’t bother. Sat at the sushi bar. Waitstaff was very nice, the place just isn’t very good. Had octopus sashimi and redtail roll. Both were forgettable.

Finally decided to try this place out. With an Asian girlfriend, my Asian choices are very carefully screened. As far as the food goes, it was más o menos, aka average. What really stood out was the service! My servers name was Becca or Becky, but whatever I called her, she was prompt and courteous. She made sure we were very well taken care of. I can’t say that the food would draw me back, but the friendly faces and service might be what brings me back.

I come here on Tuesdays and sometimes Mondays for the ½ price deals, which aren’t bad, depending on what you order. The servers are nice and the green tea is good, but time after time the music is so loud I can’t hear myself think, much less carry on a conversation. I’ve brought four* different friends here and every single one said they wouldn’t go back ‘cuz it’s just so loud. And I’m sorry, the music sucks. We’ve asked the servers if they can turn it down and(of course) they can’t, so at this point I don’t think I’ll go back. Why give yourself permanent hearing damage for cheap sushi? Make that five, I just remembered another one.

The sushi was great — rude is an understatement for the waitress who waited on us. She rolled her eyes after leaving our table as if we couldn’t see her. She didn’t refill any of our waters once. She didn’t even check on our small table of 3 one time after bringing our lunch. Food and atmosphere is great but it’s ruined when the service is nothing more than terrible.

My friend and I came here on a Monday night. They had 50% off certain rolls. Their furniture is really uncomfortable. The food itself was okay. Nothing special. They’re a little pricey, too, in my opinion.

I think the food and atmosphere is on point The staff has given attitude in the past and I’ve had to get up and get chop sticks and soy sauce from other tables because servers have forgotten to get it for us… but I’ll forgive and forget. If you’re getting sushi in PB this is where I would recommend. Their happy hour is awesome Monday and Tuesday. Regular customer for a reason

Been going to this place for a long time. Great food awesome atmosphere. I normally go for the edamame, rainbow roll and coconut shrimp. They play good music and have great décor. There is searing outside as well in a prime location for people watching in PB.

Amazing sushi, great vibes, the sushi is actually quality and fresh with fabulous happy hour deals and the best drink deals I’ve ever seen. The servers are attentive and give on point customer service. BESTSUSHIINPB!!! The red dragon roll and mr. Pb roll are my favorites. And there Sapporo sake deal is insane. Definitely a place to go to whenever I’m craving sushi. One of the only sushi places with real fresh fish and affordable prices.

Amazing atmosphere with delicious quality sushi! I also liked the fact that I could see the sushi being made directly in front of me.

Date of takeout: 1÷16÷2016 I somehow missed writing this review in January, but better now than never, right? I was craving some udon, but didn’t really feel like going out to a restaurant, so we decided to order udon to go. Although there are quite a few Japanese restaurants in PB, I still haven’t found a great udon place. Since Kato is right around the corner from our apartment, we decided to give them a shot and it was okay. Nothing terrible, but nothing spectacular. In the end it satisfied my udon craving. I love the Eat24 app — it makes it super easy to order food without having to fumble over the phone with someone. After placing our order, we walked over to pick up our food and everything went really smoothly. Our order was packed up and ready to go. In fact, if you look at the picture I posted, everything was expertly packed — the noodles were separate from the soup to ensure they wouldn’t get soggy. House Special Udon. The broth in this udon was much darker than typical udons that I’ve had in the past. I’m not sure if it was because they added soy sauce, but it was just okay. There were two pieces of gyoza in the soup, which got really soggy and not that tasty. I ended up only using some of the broth and adding the vegetable tempura to even out the meal. Vegetable Tempura. These were pretty typical and went really well with the udon. Again, nothing terrible, you’re getting exactly what you expect. I didn’t use the sauce that came with this side order since I was dipping it in my udon broth. Gyoza. Nothing too special here either, if you want gyoza, you’re getting exactly what you expect from a Japanese restaurant. The sauce served with them was also not exemplary, but it was definitely better than just plain soy sauce. Teriyaki Chicken Bowl. While the rice and broccoli were good, the chicken had a weird texture. Cam was hungry, but he didn’t finish his bowl, which leads me to believe that he didn’t really enjoy this either. I had a couple of bites, but it just wasn’t that great. Overall, Kato is A-OK in my book for non-sushi items. I’m not sure I’ll add this to my regular list of restaurants to go to, but it’s definitely worth a try. They are probably better for sushi, which we didn’t get. Maybe another time…

Came across this place literally just walking by. Wasn’t good wasn’t bad. Kinda of a sushi whore so if you’re use to eating super good sushi like Nubu or Roku etc then you won’t be too excited about this place. It was NYE2016 when we stumbled across the place so would give them another shot if i were in there area and wanted sushi.

So came here in Monday night for ½ off sushi. They do this Tuesday as well. Pros: cool environment. Very trendy. Play fun house music. Sushi grade: B-. Friendly server. Cons: was freezing as they leave doors open. Rolls with cream cheese are overpowered by the cream cheese. Hot sake is one of the worst I had. Food takes a LONG time. Overall: I’d recommend this place if you’re nearby, it’s daytime and you hit happy hour. Overall Tip: they warn sushi could take 20 – 45 minutes– they aren’t lying.

Once I discovered this place I haven’t been able to stop coming in. I seriously cannot get over the amazing selection and the the HAPPYHOUR menu is unreal. Being in such a high traffic area I expected to have mediocre service and no room around my table BUT this place was quick, kind and very attentive. Options for seating vary and there is plenty of room for activities I HIGHLYRECOMMENDTHISRESTAURANT!!! 9.5 of 10 which is hard for a sushi joint in PB when there are 1000 to choose from.

First off how do you pronounce this place?! And is it just me or do they only hire hot waitresses?! Half off rolls on Monday & Tuesday! And a super cute patio– BUT a downside to that is its right on a busy street HUGE selection of rolls & cute atmosphere. Def my go to sushi spot in PB

Came here tonight since I have never been to Pacific Beach. Came here and was seated with my party of 5 very quickly for a Saturday night. That’s where the positive experience ends and the suffering and hangry anger kicks in. The ambiance is just fine. It’s a trendy place with a young audience. We enjoyed the people watching, to say the least. The waitress took our order and disappears. I ordered a beef teriyaki/tuna combo, two friends shared sushi, one ordered ramen, and one ordered a chicken bowl and sushi. After maybe 10 – 15 min she returns with one persons order of ramen and two bowls of miso that came with the meal combos. Says the rest will be out shortly and the sushi takes some time since they’re «slammed.» One more persons food comes out, a chicken teriyaki combo that actually was incorrect and was meant to be the bowl that was ordered. The waitress seems confused and said I ordered a beef bowl and sushi, to which I said no, I ordered the same combo but with beef and he ordered chicken but in a bowl. She then says it must have been a kitchen error and says she will bring out my food soon. Meanwhile everyone else has eaten in shifts since none of our food came out at once. Awkward. Finally my food comes out and we are all eating at one time. Except my food has a rather inconvenient hair not belonging to me… it was wrapped well around a piece of my beef, which was like shoe leather. My salad was drowning in dressing, and out came more miso. It’s like she hit the reset button on her mental Nintendo 64 and had total amnesia that I only needed correct entrée food, not necessarily to start over and pretend I hadn’t already had ample soup. Also, she never put in the order for the sushi that went with the bowl order. The sushi was quite bland on all levels and we all agreed it was not worth the money. My tuna was tasteless and we choked back much of our food. Eventually my friend told the waitress we were unhappy and they took my food off the tab. We had to remind her to also take off the sushi we never got, which seemed like another epic surprise… can’t really blame the chef or how busy it is… It’s the subpar service, and the off base food masquerading as a trendy restaurant. Peel that layer back and it’s just another mismanaged chaotic mediocre spot for college kids to feel special drinking Sapporo.

I’m not s big fan of PB for the evenings, not at the age of 33, I like it during a summer afternoon, so I was a little weary when a date suggested we go to PB for sushi last Friday night. We weren’t sure where to go, we walked by Sushi Kuchi which just sounded odd and it was full of people doing sake bombs, a few other places looked packed, we stumbled across Kato Sushi and I’m glad we did. It was definitely a nicer spot for PB, the food was good along with the drinks. We had a really nice server by the name of Sam and she was very helpful. She first informed me she was a bar tender prior to working here, I had told her I wanted a «fun» drink but didn’t really like sweet stuff. She recommended the Cucumber Sake cocktail and it was very delicious and very refreshing. My date had a Sapporo and with a large beer purchase this evening you received a jar of sake for only a penny, what a deal! For food we enjoyed the ceviche shrimp lettuce wraps that came with butter lettuce cups, I just love butter lettuce. I chose the protein roll which I always go for and we had the orange crush roll. I didn’t really care for the orange crush roll as I don’t really like sweet stuff or oranges but my date seemed to enjoy it. Good spot and one of the nicer and better ones for PB. I personally don’t know if I’d come back here on a weekend night but any day during lunch or a weeknight I’d definitely come in!

Great place to have sushi with good deals on Monday and Tuesday(half of selected rolls). The service was a little confused, but maybe we went there with a group of 8 and ordered lots of different rolls. My favourite is the TGIF Roll.
