This dog park is a huge improvement over Mariner’s Cove’s old dog park which used to be over in a grassy area that always ended up incredibly muddy. I was glad that they moved the dog park over to the sandy volley ball court area. Now the dog park is 2⁄3 sand and 1⁄3 grass. My dog loves to dig holes in the sand so we liked bringing him here, especially when going to Dusty Rhodes wasn’t an option anymore because of aggressive dogs. While the sand was kind of cool, there were some downsides. A lot of residents didn’t pick up dog poop when their dogs pooped in the sandy area, and also didn’t fill in holes that their dogs made. We haven’t been back here in a really long time though, so hopefully things have changed since then. And make sure your dog is on good flea control because the sand is perfect for fleas!

huge huge huge fenced off area for dogs to play… relatively well-kept, and seems that a good group of people and their pups come out here… it’s large enough where dogs can mingle or(if you’re like my bf’s pup) you can stay a bit of loner and wander on your own!

When Mariner’s Cove first started taking dogs a while back, there really was no place to run them except for Dusty Rhodes Dog Park across Nimitz Blvd. It soon became apparent that a place needed to be set aside for pets and owners to congregate and the first Dog Park was born. This was a squarish fenced area running alongside the fence adjacent to Barnes Tennis Center. The only problem here was that part of this first Dog Park was fenced into a very muddy patch of grassy area and every time the sprinklers came on,(which was daily) it was a God forsaken mess. Soon dog owners complained and eventually, the new Dog Park was repositioned into a corner where the volleyball nets used to be. Smack down next to the tennis courts, we now have a spacious fenced-in area which is half sand and half grass. There is a bench to plop down on and of course, a doggy trash can and poop bags attached to a sign stating the law about picking up after your pets. I don’t have a dog but my friend does and I have hung out with her when she trots her dog there. Most of the animals seem to get along okay and it really is a nice amenity to have here at Mariner’s Cove. Most of the condo people who used to sneak into MC to walk and poop their dogs have disappeared for the most part-thanks to several residents complaining(and taking digital photos) of the offenders. Emailing them to the condo property manager’s office seems to have finally booted the trespassers out! Since Mariner’s Cove has gone to the dogs, it just makes sense they would then give the fido’s their very own park to bark at and dig up. Please make sure you close the gate on your way out!
