A club of a different sort… I had driven by this spot a hundred times and never knew. I would see some«patronages» milling about outside, shaking hands, saying goodbyes… just thought it was a certain type of house that some people might stop by for a quick hello, drop ten bucks, and leave on a «high». It looks like a house, with a white iron screen for a door. I could see a handwritten sign on the door and I had to inquiry as to what it read: «If you are not a member you must pay $ 3 for every visit.» WTF? I could hear music, laughter, billiards, and the smell of smoke(cigarette smoke) coming from the inside. I went in and feel so much more enlightened(and brave) for doing so. It is a members only club that has shuffleboard, pool tables, and a sick ass juke box: early Motown, Chicago wax trax, some modern rhymes, and a smidgen of ballads from Barry White, Donna Summer, and Lionel. The club allows smoking and is a BYOB club! They sell two types of beer: Natty Ice and Budweiser. Also, if a member has a bottle of VO, Courvoisier, or a bottle of a fine wine such as Mad Dog, the member can sell or share his bottle with you. They have welcomed me with open arms every time. I will say that it isn’t for everyone… err…IT isn’t for most people. No attitude given, no attitude taken. I was the lone«star» in a very dark sky every time and never felt judged. The members are all amazing guys. It is like hanging out on a front porch with some friends, neighbors; playing tunk or dominoes on a table, and sharing some drinks and laughs. It is what it is and that is what you make of it, a good time should be in line.
