I’ve lived in the Golden Hill neighborhood for over 5 years and am still discovering odd little places every week in the surrounding areas. This time I discovered, Nolbertos Taco Shop, a quick three minute drive from my neck of the woods. Humble is an understatement when describing Nolbertos. Bare bones and no frills, this place just pumps out some standard Mexican fare for what appears to be years. There are tables lining the walls with a big open space in the middle of the floor where they could probably squeeze a few more seats but there’s probably no need with virtually no customers. I can only speak for the breakfast burrito that rang in at $ 5.70 with eggs, cheese, bacon, potato, guacamole and pico. Hey, not a bad burrito! The tortilla was slightly crisped and they didn’t skimp on any of the ingredients. I couldn’t finish the entire thing as it was quite large but not to the point that it was an excessive novelty meal. Another thing I love is when they serve the salsas in plastic squeeze bottles. It’s the best! The bottles are a little cold to the touch and it’s so much easier to get the salsa in all of the nooks and crannies. Not a bad little spot but if they accepted credit cards and built a drive-thru they’d earn a lot more of my business.

I only go here out of pure desperation. They are cash only and if you want your food to taste good then you havr to pay extra to add flavor.

I’ve been going here for years. Nolbertos’ carne asada and pollo asada burritos rank as one of the best in all of San Diego County, they’re marinated perfectly, served hot and extremely juicy!!!

I come in at noon and order a breakfast burrito, they tell me they are too busy to make a breakfast burrito. 2 other people sitting in store. Total bs lazy, just lost 4 customers for life and that’s 2 – 4 burritos a week x 52 weeks a year, do the math. This is dated January 2014 somehow this did not post until now.

Stopped here, for lunch, once with my parents(who like eating from here). It’s definitely not a fancy Mexican eatery. It has a questionable amount of empty space and interior décor, but don’t let that stop you from trying it out. This place has one of the better, if not best, bean and cheese burritos that I have tasted around the San Diego area. Plenty of cheese and the beans actually taste good! I cannot vouch for the rest of the menu items, since I did not try them, but if they have a good bean and cheese then that’s reason enough for me to keep coming here!

Stopped by with my co-worker on the way home from work. I ordered the shrimp burrito which comes with rice, tartar sauce and mexican salsa. There was too much rice and not enough salsa. No cheese either =/. My co-worker ordered a carne asada burrito and the damn carne asada was cold. She said she didn’t like her burrito so it will be my last stop at this place. Save your money and go to costco up the street.

Stopped in here on a slow Sunday afternoon. I was the only person in here. I ordered my standard rolled tacos since it was my first time. They were pretty good. Service was decently friendly. Plenty of parking out front. Salsa pretty good. A lot of space in the dining area, they could add a couple of more tables and still have plenty of room.

One of the best ‘hole in the wall’ taco shops in the area! Ive lived in South Park for 20 years and have had my share of Benny’s and all the surrounding taco places. I only discovered this place this year and I am so happy I did! Their prices are great and their food is great! I normally get the 2 beef tacos, rice and beans for 5 bucks + tax! Also, its CASHONLY but they do have an ATM in there! Check them out!

Not in the best part of town and not the cleanest or well decorated or friendliest staff but popping in here for lunch one day when I was subbing down the street was worth it. GIANT and I mean pretty damn big bean and cheese burrito for $ 3. The burrito was great and I loved that I got a squeeze thing of salsa so I could wet my burrito as much as I liked. PS cash only

Had my car in the shop across the street so figured I’d come in and kill some time. Ordered a California burrito and horchata. The burrito was definitely worth the price. Great taste and good price. The carne Asada was delicious. Didn’t need any hot sauce. It was just right. The horchata was really good. Not watered down like some shops. All in all, a good visit. I’m considering making this my main taco shop. We shall seeeeeee.

Machaca burrito was excellent! Wasn’t soggy. Meat was browned with the onions and peppers. Their salsas not bad either.

You can call a head to get your order! My fave are the Carne Asada Fries with extra fries and 2 flour tortillas. of course I share my fries unlike some people.!!lol. Trust me I couldn’t eat the whole thing by myself! The food is good and the prices are affordable if you are on a budget.

I ate lunch here on a Tuesday, got the crunchy taco lunch plate. It tasted very good, but later that night I got very, very sick!!! I threw up all night and ended up with diarrhea for the next 3 days. I am thinking it could have been the«agua de piña» drink and not the actual food. Either way, I won’t be coming back to this place cause I’m spooked of what happen. These are not bad people and I thought the service was OK. At this point I would blame the drink cause that’s what was grossing me out when I was puking all night. If you end up eating here, I’d say stay away from the water drinks and get a coke instead.

Went in again today as I have so many weeks over the past year and everything is still the same. Great quality, great prices and a friendly mom, pop and son working hard everyday! I really love this place even though the décor isn’t great in the dining room the kitchen is always spotless and free of clutter which is what counts! I take my food to go as the atmosphere isn’t the best in the dining room with all the working men sitting alone eating their lunch. :) I also have the advantage that it is in walking distance to my work wahoo!

So this the place I found to waste my lunch money on Tuesdays and Thursdays. it’s not that great but it is a step up and a star up from KFC who I just slammd on finally. this place looks like your average hole in the wall taco joint. nothing I’ve gotten here has ever been the right price that it says on the menu so I think they need to update that stuff so your customers wont be confused. it took almost 20 minutes to get my very simple quesidilla that should have took like 5 minutes the most. it just looks run down in here. alot of cracked furniture and floor looks nasty. I hope they would try to make this place a little nicer inside.

Nolbertos Taco Shop( ) is a place that you can, for the most part, just drive on by. They gave me a premade, barely average carne asada burrito. They also have a 3 star breakfast burrito(but there’s no bacon to be had here!). If you have to try anything here(burrito-wise), go for the pollo asado as it was easily 4 stars. Carne asada burrito(w/beans and cheese only) # 115 — Pollo asado burrito(w/beans and cheese only) # 61 — Breakfast burrito # 122 — I saw the same guy(wearing the same Cowboys jersey) inside on two of my visits. I think he looked at me and wondered if I were a cop or a porno star. Also, some guy went into the bathroom and immediately came back out covering his nose.

For $ 4.09 you can have the best carne asada burrito in the city. I am well aware that most people will not know were this taco shop is nor will they travel there to sample this huge burrito. That is fine with me. I have lived off taco shop burritos since I moved to SD over ten years ago and Nolbertos is the best. Nothing fancy, just simple, authentic goodness. Saying«best burrito in the city» is a bold statement, but I stand by it. I travel past ten taco shops to get there. I will even stop at Sombreros for my wife first and then head over to Nolbertos.
