The food here is decent but a little overpriced. The bow tie pasta salad is probably the best item here. The chicken is a bit dry if not for the teriyaki sauce. The cashiers are usually friendly but seem rushed most of the time.

SUMISALAD!!! The chicken in the chicken bowl was undercooked before. The shrimp is my first choice! I like how they pack to go orders, they don’t put the salads with the hot food. The sauce on top of the shrimp-SOO GOOD, also like the veggie combo. Pretty fast & efficient staff, nice as well!

Great customer service and staff here! Food is ok just conveniently located to my home! I am quite the picky eater so I typically customize my order and the staff always gets my order modified correctly. In fact, since I visit San-Sai so frequently, the staff remembers my order every time I visit(which is a huge plus!) What do I like? Nothing out of the ordinary: — Tempura Roll — California Roll — Fried Potstickers — Udon Noodles with Dumplings

The gyoza was very good but the fish in the Philly rolls were tough and chewy. The dragon roll is good and filling. The texture really threw me off. They have good service and nice staff. Also even with the a/c on it was hot as b****s in there.

Pretty bad. Went there with a coupon. Food quality not so good. Might as well pick up from a grocery store. Save yourself a trip. This could be better if they used fresh, quality ingredients and gave you a reasonable amount for your money.

I have to say, it has gone downhill rapidly, or the food just isn’t as good on weekends. I used to come here for lunch consistently during the week, and it was awesome. Lunch specials were good deals and the food was fresh. The past three times, I came on a weekend. The first was still awesome, but the last two have shown a steady decline. This past weekend could have been closer to two stars: smaller portions, the food tastes bland like it has been frozen and it tastes like they are reusing cooking oil. It’s a shame, because I really used to like it here. i can only hope this location shakes itself out of this downward spiral before it is too late.

This place gets less than a 2.5 at best. Hardly authentic, it’s more like Japanese-influenced. Totally fast food format, plates filled with veggies and salad, but meager and overcooked(slightly tough) protein. It’s convenient, not overly expensive, but hardly a place I would think to return to given all the choices available. I’m surprised it has survived this long, but after all, it is ‘exciting’ Scripps Ranch…

I was so excited to see this establishment so close to my new office so of course I was eager to try my favorite spicy chicken bowl. I will never go back. This isn’t Japanese food. I don’t know what they use in their sauce but it isn’t remotely Japanese. Plus, NO vegetables in the bowl? Really? What a rip off. In addition to all that, they gave me the wrong order so I had to drive all the way back to pick up the correct order. Good customer service would have delivered it to my office. Instead my phone call was met with a snotty«well the lady told you what was in the order.» I thought I understood her to say«spicy chicken» and I confirmed by asking her«#20?» to which she nodded her head. Regardless of who was at fault, whatever happened to the old adage«a customer is ALWAYS right.» This place won’t last.

I had the chicken bowl once but the chicken was under cooked and not tasty. My co worker got the shrimp plate and it was delicious. The sausage plate is really good too. You get two choices of a side salad or a Thai cold noodle salad on the side. All for about $ 11.

Japanese food simple and ok. The combination plates were decent amount of food. All plates ordered came with a choice of 2 side salads or miso soup and salad choice. The chicken and tempura was ok. But the chicken was a little overcooked or was sitting in a warming tray for awhile. The noodle salad was good. I liked the tomato and cucumber salad very fresh. Steak and chicken plate was a little dry. The cole slaw type salad and Chinese salad were ok.

We have been coming here for about a year and it has become my favorite Japanese place. The portions are a good size and always very flavorful. I love their spicy chicken with veggies and their cabbage salad on the side. My kids recommend the chicken, steak, and shrimp kid meals. My husband likes the tiger roll.

Ok where do I begin first of all wanted to do a phone order the lady who answered couldn’t even hear me. I asked for a Philly roll ok they have it. But once I asked for a beach boy they didn’t even know what that was. Also asked for a Lemon roll and the lady said yeah we do have lemons slices on the side. They didn’t even know what those rolls were so I ended ordering basic rolls. When I get there the menu has the most basic rolls so it’s a disappointed moment to realize it’s not a full sushi bar menu. Food was decent not the best but whatever

I’m a SanSai regular and generally find myself there a couple times a month, the food tastes great, its healthy and the quality is consistent. I always go with either a salmon or chicken breast plate, it comes with a veggie skewer and rice and two sides, I normally get the oriental salad and miso soup. I don’t know what they put in their teriyaki sauce but its head and shoulders above what they use in most places. A big plus for me is that you can get brown rice here, unlike at so many of the more authentic Japanese restaurants. SanSai is located in the new Vons shopping center in Scripps Ranch, on the far west end of the center.

I was surprised by how much I enjoyed my spicy chicken bowl with sumi(cabbage) salad! The chicken had a good spicy kick and the sumi salad reminded me of my mom’s recipe. I liked that there were different options for salads that didn’t mean that you were stuck with plan ol’ lettuce.(On this day there was also a cucumber and a noodle salad.) Is this place authentic? Absolutely not! But it’s tasty and affordable, and sometimes that’s all you need to satisfy your hunger pain.
