It’s so nice to have a quality Asian restaurant at the La Playa end of Point Loma! Love the soju bar drinks(had never tried it before), the good Vietnamese food & trendy-casual-welcoming vibe! Try it! : — D

I loved this restaurant — the food was fantastic — fresh and authentic, and the décor is charming. I’ll be back for happy hour for sure!

I think this is a very nice inexpensive addition to the Point Loma community. I went there couple times to try different kind of dishes from them. Service was friendly and food was excellent. I like the Singaporean street noodle particularly. It got a good flavor and not too saucy. They also got a good selection of beer on tap. Some people complained that it is over priced Vietnamese food. I think they probably don’t know Point Loma is an expensive area. Plus, the interior of the restaurant and service are much nicer than your average Vietnamese spot. So it is normal that it will cost more than a regular phở place, but it still provides a cheaper option for us neighbors(comparing to other nice restaurant in the area). When people write a review, they should take that into consideration before calling it expensive. I also like the vibe of this restaurant. It is a place you can eat, talk and relax. You can bring a date here and it won’t cost you a fortune. Over the hill at Ocean Beach, there is OB noodle house which also offers good noodle soup, but it caters to the loud drinking crowd. As a local, I enjoy coming here.

Ate lunch here for the 1st time and ordered rare beef Phở and crispy spring rolls. Phở was below average. Broth was bland and the beef was in the soup while most places bring raw beef to add to soup as you like. Meat was tough and looked liked sliced SteakUm meat. Would not order again. Rolls were tasty but only 4 to the order. Most places give 5. Might try again with different menu items. Bahn Mi sandwich looked good when delivered to another table.

The phở is legit. I felt like service was a bit slow but that’s probably the New Yorker in me being too critical.

New Vietnamese and phở spot, formerly Gabardines. Happy hour is a great deal — 3 – 6 pm daily — $ 3 wines and beer and appetizer specials($ 3 – 8). Liked the sauv Blanc better than the Pinot noir. We tried the pork and mango roll, crispy Imperial rolls, sweet potato fries and garlic noodles w/shrimp, and they were all really good. Then got a couple bowls of phở; broth wasn’t quite as flavorful as our usual spot, but still very good. Lemongrass clams were amazing! And topped it off with a coconut flan. They have kids’ menu, too. Good beer and wine selection, and very friendly service. Nice addition to the neighborhood!

My boyfriend and I were trying to find a place to eat at, and we drove by this place. To be honest, we thought this place was called Seaside Pub & Grill. We had dinner here on a Saturday night and the place didn’t seem too busy. The inside is so adorable and definitely a good place to go to for a date night. My boyfriend was very intrigued by the fishing rod light fixtures. Service was okay. My boyfriend ordered Pepsi and I just ordered water, and we were just laughing at the fact that during our dinner his drink was refilled a couple of times while my water glass was empty and I had to ask for a refill. But other than that, it was okay. For dinner, I ordered the Singapore Street Noodles and that was delicious. I’m not a big of onions and I didn’t know there was a handful of them on the entrée I ordered, and so I had to pick out my onions. Other than that, my food was delicious. My boyfriend ordered the Banh Mi Sandwich and he said that he liked it and it was very filling. It’s a little pricey, but i’d definitely go back and try something else :)

We found this new phở place and decided to give them a try. The restaurant is located on a nice corner spot. There are a few designated parking spots located in the back, otherwise, you’ll need to find street parking. The interior is decorated nicely with a clean, modern look. They have interesting fishing rod light fixtures hanging from the ceiling. The place was larger than we expected with plenty of indoor and a few outdoor seating. The staff was nice, but service was a bit slow even though there weren’t a lot of customers at the time. Good looking menu and they have some craft beer available, as well. We started off by placing an order of their Crispy Imperial Rolls. We then ordered our meals off of their lunch menu. We decided to try their Phở Noodles with Rare Steak and their Banh Mi Plate with Sesame Pork. We received our meals first. The phở was average. It was good, but nothing special. The Banh Mi was a nice size, pork had a good flavor, bread was crispy and soft. The sandwich came with a side of salad. Our Crispy Imperial Rolls came out after, which was strange. They came with 4 rolls which were accompanied by 2 lettuce leaves, some mint, and dipping sauce. These were tasty, as well. Overall we’d rate this place at about a 3.5. Good food, nice restaurant, but a bit on the expensive side. We would come back, but it might be difficult to choose this place over some of the other phở joints around the area which are either better and/or cheaper in price.

The owner here is the sweetest and her servers do a great job as well. The food was great during happy hour and I’ll definitely be coming back to try their phở! Let’s see what my vietnamese taste buds say then(:

A coworker brought me here for lunch recently, the food is amazing… I really liked the egg rolls… plus they’re not a crowded and noisy restaurant, you’ll be seated immediately. Give it a try!

Cute place. My mom and I went for lunch. Prices were reasonable. We had tofu spring rolls which were okay. We both ordered the banh mi sandwiches with chicken. The favors were great throughout. However, the quality of the meat(chicken) was not great. There wasn’t even that much meat on the sandwiches so they could have used higher quality meat. We both had to keep spitting out gristle and picking through unappetizing pieces of chicken. Gross. I may return for happy hour but since the chicken was gross, I’m going to go vegetarian at this place next time.

Great food, I have eaten here twice in the last week and everything’s good I have tried! I had pineapple fried rice. And my friend had the crispy noodles. Today I had the happy hour garlic noodle’s and the ballast point beer, and the crispy imperial rolls. It was perfect for dinner.

That a cute spot! Just hip & trendy– you can come here for lunch with a co worker(what I did) or come here for a date night on a Friday. The spring rolls opened up my world to REAL spring rolls. The peanut sauce was the icing on top– a MUST get. As for a main course, I had to try out the classic steak phở. Super fresh, amazing taste & I would def get it again. They had some specials which sounded great, honestly I don’t think you can go wrong with any of the dishes. I will def be back!

This place is great. The phở is good. The spring rolls are fresh and tasty. The fish is fresh and seasoned perfectly. Curry is traditional. Ban mi was great. Birds nest noodles(sorry, they call it something different) was ok. The mussels are really yummy! They do offer a selection of beers. The prices are decent for a place in la playa(I’m sure the rent is high) and they offer good food. I would be willing to give it 5 stars except for the service. They servers are very nice and helpful, but the restaurant seems understaffed. I’ve been here twice now. The first time was just after they opened and for dinner. It was busy, so I thought it may be a fluke. The 2nd time, it was for lunch and when we were the only people there, service was great. But when they started to fill, suddenly our service had disappeared and it took a long time to get and pay for our meal.

This restaurant is fairly new, so we decided to check this place out after having a light dinner somewhere else because we were still hungry! They have designated parking spots in the lot, which was good since we couldn’t find any nearby street parking. The décor is very modern and uspcale! It doesn’t look like your typical Vietnamese restaurant at all… There is also a bar and it is located towards the right side of the entrance. We were able to sit in a booth and browsed through the menu, which consisted of a few variations of phở, some appetizers, banh mi, desserts, and even a section for kids. Since I felt like having soup, but not phở, I ordered the hot and sour lemongrass soup(canh chua tom) and my boyfriend got the crêpe(banh xeo) and Vietnamese coffee. My soup had a decent amount of shrimp and pineapple slices, but was kind of bland. It tasted very Americanized and was actually bigger than I was expecting. My boyfriend said his crêpe was greasy, not very flavorful, and didn’t come with the usual veggies he was used to having. Service was not that great either– I didn’t feel welcome and our server never smiled at us. We even had to flag other people to ask for more lettuce, etc. Seems like they have regular customers here, which is a good sign, but I personally didn’t think the food was that great. When we left and thanked our server on the way out, she didn’t even acknowledge us even though she was standing near the entrance/exit.

Phabulous Phở, Superb Service and Amazing Ambience! This place is a win! All alliteration aside, I came in a few weeks ago during the end of the lunch rush and was shocked. For once, I was able to have a perfect bowl of phở without flies, sticky tables and rude servers. While I can appreciate the more authentic experience, for me, this restaurant provides food that is on par, or better, than anything in San Diego. I sat at the bar and was helped by Lawrence. He was friendly and professional and seemed to have a sixth sense for knowing when I wanted to chat and when I wanted to sit back and slurp noodles. When we did chat, it was nice — turns out we are both huge beer geeks and he was very knowledgeable about the tap list! I was never without a fresh glass, and he suggested some interesting cocktails that I might try next time I ordered the rare steak phở and imperial rolls and they were both amazing! Often I find that phở is unbalanced — either too sweet and too heavy on the anise, or too salty and heavy with onion. This bowl was exceptionally balanced. The imperial rolls were also good, though perhaps spent a little too long in the fryer and maybe the oil was a teensy bit old. I will still take that over flies and sticky tables. Décor was awesome as well. Many of you may remember the gaberdine. which was beautiful inside. Well the new owners left some of the really cool parts of that restaurant, and then changed and re-purposed others. All around, smart décor decisions were made. I could address the price point that some of you have mentioned on other reviews. Well, yea, it’s a little high for a bowl of noodles. But then again, maybe you don’t mind flies? Who’s to say. In all, I’d say the service and food are what will bring me back.

This new Vietnamese eatery is located in the old Gabardine eatery location in Point Loma. It has a brand new face serving contemporary Vietnamese cuisine and a craft beers and wine. I stopped in for a late lunch and ordered the Rib Eye Bun for $ 10. The bun looked great when it arrived, but unfortunately the rib eye was over done and a little dry, so I asked them to re-fire it, and they gladly did so. The second batch of rib eye was prepared to a nice medium the way I asked, and was juicy and tender. Also, the meat had a great mildly salty and a touch of sweet marinade. The liked the garnish of chopped green onions and natural juices of the meat they ladled on top. The vermicelli noodles were very well prepared and were served at room temperature. I added a bit of soy and fish sauce and I slurped away. The bun also came with a single chopped ground chicken, shrimp, and chopped black mushrooms crispy egg which was delicious. The Romain lettuce, fresh mint, straw sliced carrots, and bean sprouts were all terrific. As usual, the dish came with freshly chopped peanut that just gave the bun that additional nice flavor and texture. I was so glad I asked for the meat to be re-fire, because it made a world of a difference, and more importantly, I was very happy that they had no problem doing it. Service was very nice and the two young ladies who served me had great personalities. They offer a pretty good happy hour from 3 pm to 6 pm seven days a week.
