Step Forward is a wonderful program that is available to people here in San Diego who utilize the social safety nets available to help families. There are social services here that teach parents how to intelligently maximize their resources to stay afloat. I came to Step Forward as part of a referral to see counselors that offer career guidance. But there are many different types of classes: some as varied as nutritional assistance, yoga, art as therapy, and even walks to Balboa Park to appreciate nature. There is a family atmosphere here and a nice, large community kitchen where many food-filled days are celebrated. The employees here are caring; especially the wonderful Ninfa, who specializes in assisting disabled clients and helps with referrals to social security. The only thing that can take away 1 UnilocalSTAR from this review? Parking! In Banker’s Hill, there is not much street parking and the garage is only for employees, so if you have a car, you have to be careful. The voracious meter maids are constantly circling – looking for cars that have over-stayed their parking meters. I have a disabled parking placard and received a parking ticket for being outside the parking line on the street! It’s a bummer!
