Fantastic A+ service. Got my DUI down to a Wreck less Driving. Very thorough and very approachable. Hopefully this will be the one and only time I need his services but if something were to happen, I wouldn’t hesitate using Marc again!

I’m leaving this review on behalf of my brother who got his second DUI about half a year ago. It was his second DUI and so it wasn’t just going to be another run of the mill visit to the lawyers.
When we were in trouble and had no where to look after going to a few other lawyers, I found Marc with Unilocal’s help. It was nice to know how much information Marc had to offer us and how helpful he was. He was able to inform us of all the options that were available and best case scenarios while being fair at what we were up against.
Without getting into too much detail about the case, it was a pretty tough case and Marc helped us mitigate the situation. He was able to update us after he had to show up to court on our behalf and also prompt in giving us options and/​or alternatives when things changed.
Overall I hope we don’t have to go through another situation like this either myself, my brother, friend, or another family member. If this does happen though I will definitely know where to go and I already have Marc’s number saved in my phone.

Where do I begin??? There is not enough stars here to express his top notch services, intelligent, aggressive, and knowledge in all criminal cases. He not only won my DMV hearing, but beat both a dui & felony violation. I have meet a lot of attorneys out there but no one as smart and agressive as Mr. Khonnen!

To start I was super scared with what needed to happen on my part. My case wasn’t by any means cut and dry, I knew I needed help. When I met Marc, I was immediately relieved. His calm and professional demeanor was exactly what I needed. He handled my case without a hiccup. His staff and associates were so helpful and timely when I had questions. The honest truth is, I didn’t have to do much. He took care of all the court hearings and paperwork. Worth every penny. I trust him for professional advice, referrals, and friends that need help.

Mr. Kohnen is a great guy to have on your side. Marc has your best interest in mind and does his fiduciary duty. He was able to get my tickets dismissed. I thought that I was looking at some heavy fines or maybe a small stay in jail or long license suspension. He told me to take care of my outstanding unpaid tickets and they would be able to negotiate with the prosecutor for a lesser charge, so I did. I could not have been happier with a dismissal. This was the best experience I’ve had with a lawyer, he is easy to talk to, I never even met him in person, this was taken care of over the phone and by emails. If you need legal help Marc can help, he is not cheap but you get what you pay for in lawyers.

Where do I start?!!
I got a DUI back on Nov 2013 and I was in shambles. I did my research on attorneys all over San Diego as I was freaking out about whether this was going to effect my career until I found Mr. Kohnen.
I first spoke to one of his associates who volunteered to schedule the DMV hearing even before I made the decision to retain them and did state that he would not be able to call in for the DMV hearing unless I did retain them.
After days of research, Mr. Kohnen’s fees were most reasonable and my experience with them over the phone was must assuring and pleasant. They didn’t make false promises and gave it to me straight.
Ever since I retained Mr. Kohnen, he has been the best resource and guide for me through this whole ordeal. He was patient, went through everything in detail and I really feel like he went above and beyond. I really felt like he cared about me and my case.
He got my BAC lowered so I didn’t have to face harsher consequences and got my case as a first offender with the courts as I had a minor wet’n reckless when I was not yet 21.
Even after the plea, as personal matters which intertwine with my probational terms, he is there to help me through it. He even presented ways to remove the DUI from my personal records and assured me that he will be there to help until all matters are resolved.
I cannot reiterate how much Mr. Kohnen has helped me through this ordeal. I know now that if I have any legal troubles… lets cross my fingers that I wont. but IF I did, i would know exactly who to go to.

I wasn’t 100% sure I was going to even leave a review, since posting this experience does air some dirty laundry, but I was thinking about my arrest last year and decided that if anyone I have ever reviewed truly deserved a 5-​Star Review — more than anyone else Mr. Kohnen deserved my Unilocal love.
Rewind about 12 months ago to last summer… it was late and I was having fun at a friend’s house party in PB. Some uninvited guests showed up and joined the party but then began making trouble and acting belligerently. They were respectfully asked to leave by the homeowner and they refused. Words were exchanged, then people started yelling and my friend whose house we were at got punched. He started swinging back and in about 5 seconds a full on brawl was happening. I saw my friend get mobbed by about three people and I started throwing punches at the dudes going after him. Things spilled out into the street and the cops arrived. The police asked me what happened but it didn’t seem like they were really trying to arrest the people who deserved it. I ended up getting arrested and so did my friend, when our only crime was fighting back against some party crashing d-​bags in self-​defense.
Because the d-​bags who started the whole mess got their asses kicked and then lied to police about who started the fight, I got arrested and charged with Felony Assault with Force likely to produce great bodily injury. I was always taught to get your friend’s back in a fight and that the law protected you when you acted in self-​defense but it sure didn’t protect me. I have no doubt that if I had not hired Marc I would have a felony conviction right now, because I initially went with the public defender and they advised me to plead guilty just to avoid jail and that if I was convicted I could go to prison. I am a Marine that fought for my country and I was going to fight for my own rights too. Plead guilty? No way… I wasn’t guilty and decided I needed to hire a good lawyer to fight the case. After I hired Marc he got to work immediately and had his private investigator interview a bunch of people at the scene that the police hadn’t bothered to talk to. After the investigators reports and witness statements were shared with the District Attorney my case ended up being dismissed on the day of trial. I have no criminal record and I have Marc to thank for that. The case against my friend was also dropped even though his attorney didn’t do half the work Marc did, I guess some lawyers can piggyback on the work of other lawyers too. If you are on the wrong side of the law definitely call this man, I am lucky that he had my back in the biggest fight of my life.

He tells you what you should know, not what you want to hear, and is very detailed oriented, which is good if you’re dealing with the law.

Actually I would give him 10 stars but that wasn’t an option! I hired Marc last March to represent me in a DUI case. I decided to be a total idiot that day in March and had more then one too many drinks before deciding to drive myself home. I didn’t make it home but instead crashed into slowing traffic totalling my car and damaging two others. I still to this day feel like my life should have been over in that moment. I could have killed someone or myself but luck was in my favor and the only damage done was to the vehicles. Unfortunately I am one of those people who learns their lessons the hard way and in consequence have a bit of a criminal record including a prior DWAI (driving while ability impaired-​one step down from a DUI) dating about 9 years ago. Just within the ten year statute. Normally a second DuI in CA within 10 years means mandatory jail time, an 18 month DUI program and loss of license for one year unless you get an interlock devise intstalled which you must then keep for 9 months. To my complete surprise, Marc was able to get the courts to strike the prior upon sentencing (despite my lengthy criminal record) and treat it as a first offense. This meant I only had to complete a 3 month program and do some community service (no jail time at all). I completely regret my actions from that day and have finally learned my lesson in the seriousness of drinking and driving. Hiring Marc as my lawyer was the best choice I could have made because he made it easy for me to learn from my terrible mistake but also to continue on with my life. Thank you Marc!

I cannot put good enough words for Marc Kohnen and his entire staff, such an amazing team and highly professional. They helped me terminate my DUI probation 2 years early and were also able to expunge my case, which is extremely hard to do, so I was told.

Great lawyer.
1. Practical: Before I decided to hire him, he and his partner sat down and lay out the situation for me, including the possible risks and outcomes. He reviews your case infront of you and gives you a chance that you will win based on the similar cases he has fought. He is fair and does not give you pressure to hire him unlike several other lawyers who pressured me to hire them.
2. Always keeps you updated: I have contacted Mr. Kohnen a few times during my case. He might not be present to pick up the calls but he would always return the calls and keeps me updated. He will also call you to keep you informed if there’s a progress on the case.
3. Reasonable price: before I went to Mr. Kohnen, I contacted several other lawyers who tries to scam by charging an unreasonable amount of price. Kohnen gives you a set price after he reviews your case and gives you a few days to think about it.
4. Quick and easy: i actually only had to go to his office twice before the he beats my case. Once to talk about the case with him, and once to give him all the documents he needs. He appears at all the court hearings for you and prepares all the documents and phone calls for you so that you rarely had to do anything or even know anything about the case.
