Food is good here, but the service is horrible. The only reason I tolerate it is because it is literally a few blocks from my home, but the one of Market has better service. I went in today to order 1 Cebada. I asked one of two young ladies if they had Cebada. She said, «I do have Cebada. I’ll be right with you. «She had me wait almost 20 minutes while she got other orders ready. Then, she looks at me and asks, «what do you want?» I said one Cebada. She said with a bit of attitude, we don’t have Cebada. I said, «but you just said you did and had me wait.» She said, «I never told you we had Cebada!» A couple of customers and her own partner looked at her funny. Other customers said, «We heard her tell you she did.» Her colleague said, «Sorry, we ran out of milk, so we cannot make it. « Usually, this kind of circumstance would be looked at as, oh well honest mistake, but this happens all the time. I really hate that people aren’t held accountable anymore for being negligent, disorganized, and just downright lazy at there places of work. I’m writing this review for a few reasons: 1). Management, if you’re reading this please, take charge and rectify your staff. Either by training or replacing them with folks who want the job; rather than, just fill a position and take an unearned paycheck. 2). Public, don’t let servants like this make you feel obligated to think this is normal. You’re not being rude if you lodge a complaint or tell someone they are wrong when they are. Especially, when they are getting paid to provide a service for you. 3). Service, you know who you are. You are accountable for what you do and what you say to those patrons who provide YOU with pay. After all, your company cannot pay you if they aren’t in business. And they won’t have business if you are careless and negligent with your customers. It’s common sense. Self entitlement isn’t a right.

Do you want tortas as long as your arm? This is the place. My daughter has been begging to try Tocumbo for months now. She got tostilocos and a scoop of limon. I opted for a chicken torta. I thought the price was a bit steep until I saw the size of this thing… and my picture doesn’t do it justice. in total it is over 12 inches easily. So $ 9 and some change is worth two meals. Inside was beans, cheese, chicken, lettuce, tomatoes, avocado, and onions. It comes with a pickled jalapeño and a side of some super delicious spicy red onion slices. I would say this is more of just a sub rather than a traditional torta. The limon ice cream was more of a sorbet. It was refreshing and not overly sweet. My daughter liked the tostilocos saying they were a little spicy but some of the best she’s had. I’m pretty sure they’re the same everywhere… she’s 11. We will return again. She’s already wanting to come back for paletas and to try some other ice cream flavors.

The ice cream is excellent the food is good but the service I do not want to say that is terrible but every time that I come to this place it is disappointed, this time the girls where courteous and promptly to take care of me, but the place was dirty, floors, tables. and the ladies where in the back chatting until some costumers arrived but at any moment someone take care of the cleaning. Hope next time will be better.

Pleased with salmon salad with roasted asparagus tomatoes and avocado and I liked the healthy choices they had along with an assortment of smoothies or ice cream. Much of the menus are Spanish but pictures help you choose.

Horrible customer service by Jessica. After waiting in line for about 15 min I finally get to ask what the magoneada consist of(I ask because I’ve seen places doing them different than what I’m used to), Jessica responds, «it’s just ice cream». After an awkward pause because that’s not the response I was looking for she tells me there’s a picture behind me. Anyways I didn’t, end up buying it because she got me in a bad mood so I ask for a cup of cueritos. She looks c o fused and ask which one? Hello??? Don’t you work here? Maybe I said the wrong name but«cup of cueritos» is exactly what says on the menu… she proceeds to ring me up and of course makes the mistake to charge me 2x the price by «accident». Props to the other young lady working the counter for setting an example of what good customer is… BTW the cup of cueritos wasn’t even worth 5 bucks. I could get the same by buying tostilocos and get a bit more.

This seems like a place that gets very busy because they have a ticket system at the entrance. Even if there are a few people in the store, they will ask you what your number is, so get a number. Chamango — Thicker texture than a smoothie, the ice is not as fine. Okay compared to other Chamangos I have had before. More spicier & sour. Chongo — I was not sure what this was but I saw it was a highlighted item on Unilocal. This is an ice cream composed of milk curd, cinnamon, & sugar. Definitely an acquired taste… & not similar to a Horchata flavor which is what I was expecting.

First time at this location. I usually visit the location in Chula Vista. I really enjoy their ice cream– A scoop of Chongos please– Great place I love the water spouts outside that the center has, great place to cool down with the kids.

Really unique Mexican ice cream flavors: elote(corn), chongos(curdled milk, sugar, cinnamon). They have popsicles in Mexican flavors: strawberries & cream, chongos. They also have aguas frescas: usually a fruit cooler sweetened drink. This time we tried a super mangoneada: mango fruit, mango sorbet, chamoy sauce. The mango fruit was a little firm and crunchy for my taste, wished it was ripe. It was a good unique Mexican dessert — sweet, salty, tangy, with a hint of chile. For me it was a little too sweet but I tend to eat very little sugar. It is in line and appropriate for the sweet American palate. Shop is clean and spacious. Service was friendly and helpful. The girls behind the counter will let you sample flavors.

Seriously delicious ice cream, aguas and raspados but the service in this place is repeatedly TERRIBLE. Walked in with not one customer in sight and somehow was still there way past 20 minutes!!! On top of it our order was somehow messed up in two different ways. I continue to return, but the girls are not the fastest or smartest here :(

The ice cream is not that great! Lemon one was a disappointment. The cueritos aren’t cut right. You get big nasty chucks of pig skin. The girls that work here are rude and don’t even aknowledge you until you yell. They don’t say thank you or try at all to be friendly. The strawberry water is delicious thought! The owner should really hire better employees!

I came in today to get a few things. I ordered 2 churritos with chile and lime, and was pleasantly surprised when the girl I had ordered them from brought them out in a cup. She said she figured that they were to go and thought they were easier to carry that way. Props to her for being thoughtful since my hands were already full. However, I noticed the girl that was helping the customer in front of me was being very rude. She walked away before the customer had a chance to finish stating her order. The customer thanked her a few times, and she didn’t even bother to smile, let alone say ‘you’re welcome.’ When she handed the customer her drink, she got thanked yet again, and the only thing she could bother to ask was if she had already paid. She was wearing a normal pink shirt rather than the actual uniform, so maybe she was still training. While I had a very pleasant experience, it sucks to see that other people don’t. This place seems to be 50⁄50 when it comes to customer service. Hopefully from now on they will put a greater emphasis on it.

Good food, nice clean environment. The only reason I gave 4 stars vice 5 is because its expensive! I wouldnt come back because the prices are just too much. I got a chamango and a torta de pavo. Chamango was $ 5 Torta was $ 9 … Ive never paid that much for a torta! Granted. it was good… but I can get just as good of a torta at Frutas in Chula Vista for cheaper.

This place continues to surprise me, I really thought they were only about popsicles, I walked in for the first time instead of just having someone go to fetch my craving and I ran into a full guilty pleasure menu and some. Not only is the place, big, clean, appetizing, their menu is comprehensive, there are many options for whatever situation arises. Lunch? no problem. Snack? They got you. Thirsty? Done. Exploring? Boom! Location is also super cute and you will have a great time.

My fiancé and I love coming to this Tocumbo, definitely our favorite location. I recommend there chamangos and pistachio ice cream! Also, my favorite drink, Agua de Cebada. Everything is pretty much on point! Most of the employees are very outgoing and friendly as well.

After a long day of being up and about in the city, I usually get something thirst quenching or something really cold and/or sweet. Today, it was the latter. I have never been to the other Tocumbo locations, but based on my experience in the Barrio Logan location, this place reminds me of a Mexican version of Baskin-Robbins. The layout for choosing your desired dessert is very familiar — you look at the flavors through a glass barrier and pick. The prices and other offerings are posted on digital screens at the top. I opted for ice cream. I tried the Strawberry Cream and the Chongos. I really liked the strawberry cream because it has real strawberries in it! The Chongos was also good. I had to ask what it was since I didn’t know what it meant — basically it just has curdled milk and cinnamon in the flavor profile. Overall, both were good and not overly sweet. I also had a plain churro. It wasn’t made fresh like the ones you see in state fairs or the carts near TJ, but it was still good. Overall, not a bad place to get some atypical ice cream flavors.

This place is clean, bright, new-looking, and efficient. I am addicted to their«fresas con crema»(strawberries with Mexican sour cream and granola), which is fresh and bright tasting — not too sweet, just the right amount of tartness from the sour cream, and crunch from the granola topping. My only gripe: very expensive. I believe I paid about 9 bucks for my last«fresas con crema». The person I went in with was like«ohmigod, that is really spendy». I agree. Not sure how the other reviewers have managed to find reasonably priced items, but the one thing I love here is NOT. Well, that’s it for now. Ciao.

Best find in an unlikely location. Delicious fruit salads and generous portions. I am obsessed with their coconut water drink. Smooth, creamy yet not too sweet. Their ingredients are always fresh and their staff is very attentive and helpful at explaining what you might not be familiar with. I have been to their Market St location but it felt like the Soup Nazi location. Very crowded and was rushed in and out. I was afraid to ask questions in fear off getting the dreaded, «NOFRUITSALADFORYOU!» I’ll just stick to this newer, less crowded & less intimidating location by the Coronado bridge. They also have a relaxing seating area just outside this newly expanded location.

This place has some pretty good offerings. I stopped in looking for some Mexican chocolate ice cream flavored with cinnamon, and chocolate ice cream I found! I had the two scoop cup topped with chopped peanuts for around only $ 3. I was very pleased the way they were very generous with the scoops of chocolate ice cream and peanuts( ). The ice cream was smooth and had a good chocolate flavor, but it did not have as strong of a cinnamon scent and flavor as I was looking for, but it was still very good( ). They don’t have much seating inside, but there is some outside. Also, they are in the middle of expanding to include more inside seating. The sell more than just ice cream such as, fruit bowls and raspados an such. Nice ice cream shop with a Latin American Twist.

My nieve/paleta radar went off when my boyfriend and I were in the neighborhood for an art exhibit. I checked my handy-dandy Unilocal app and-LO AND BEHOLD-we were only a few blocks away from my bookmark Tocumbo. We walked in and stared at allll the beautiful nieve(ice cream), paletas(popsicles), and agua frescas. Like a good young adult, I wanted everything, but we settled on a strawberry and a pineapple paleta. They do offer a wide variety of ice cream, paletas, and agua fresca from traditional fruit flavors(pineapple, strawberry, mango) to vanilla, chocolate, coffee, to corn and pistachio. Can’t go wrong! They also have the oh-so-beloved chile Tajin flavor, which I am itching to try next time! You can tell that some are creamier than others as far as the paletas go, so be sure to note that if you prefer either creamier ones or more icy ones. I was happy with my creamier strawberry one, while the beautiful boyfriend was super content with his juicy, icy pineapple one. Both were delicious! WEWERESOHAPPY! At LESS than $ 2 each, we got high-quality, real fruit(there are fruit chunks throughout as well as basically a whole strawberry at the bottom of the strawberry one), HUGE paletas, and we were pretty darn happy. Service was great! We weren’t rushed to make a decision, and the people were there when we were ready. It is cash only for transactions under $ 5, and at their low prices, you very well might be under $ 5! This is a winner in my book due to it’s delicious flavors, textures, high quality ingredients, low prices, and friendly atmosphere. I want to buy a second freezer so I can store mass quantities of this stuff.
