As I wrap up 2015, I’m happy to remember the good times I’ve spent with my Unilocal Friends(and their friends and family) at several UYE’s. I’ve enjoyed hosting the folks at breakfasts and banquets, on «field trips,» and for meals at places that deserved a second look from good writers who know food and service… what I’ve been calling«Redemption Dines.» Our UYE at Sieu Sieu BBQ was no exception, and I’m grateful to the following Unilocalers for joining our lunchtime adventure: Chang L. Mel J. Vin S. Isabella B. Kelly G. Joseph Y. Jack M. Mathew L. Mari H. and her husband Here’s how I found the place, and why I chose it for my first UYE: I’ve been buying Chinese BBQ at Tom’s for years, with an occasional stop at Sam Woo when I’m shopping at 99 Ranch Market, and I didn’t hear about Sieu Sieu until one day in April, when the lady who was cutting my hair told me about it. I left her shop and drove straight over, arriving for lunch at 11:15. Good thing; by 11:45, the place was full and the line was 10 deep. I questioned the three-star rating. It’s cash only, and there can be lines, but Sieu Sieu BBQ offers juicy roast pork with skin as crispy as those kettle-cooked potato chips, succulent roast duck, tender char siu and light, fragrant broth bathing plenty of hand-formed wontons and dumplings. By and large, our group enjoyed the food, and of course, we had a great time at the table. ***************************************** Sieu Sieu BBQ: Tom’s Chinese BBQ: Sam Woo: 99 Ranch Market:
