Be dubious of any company that Kaiser Permanente contracts to provide Home Health care. You see, contracts mean they have no accountability, the patient has two options, take it or leave it. My father has many challenges as a result of a traumatic car crash which left him with a crippled body, a brain injury and health complications. He lives in assisted living and has a catheter that needs to be changed every two weeks. A urologist ordered this service since he can not get to appointments very easily. I spent about an hour on the phone getting this scheduled and to understand what would go down during the appointment. At 6:30 am the day of service the family received a phone call from the home health nurse who language challenges. We were expecting this call at between 8:30 and 10:30. He declared that he would arrive around 9:30 which forced the family to rush around and switch everything to accommodate his schedule. Since this service is only provided to people who are not mobile, the people that need treatment are expected to be available at any time of the day since they are home bound. You can get disqualified from the program is you claim a time conflict exists. Western Home health exploits this in the worst way possible. After rushing to get there, guess what happened? He was nearly two hours late. To compound the problem, the health worker did not even have the information about what he was being sent out to do in his work order. We mention that he needs to get the catheter changed, then he asks whether it is the entire catheter that goes into his penis, or whether he is just screwing a bag in. So he has to stop to get whatever they shove into him on the way and this worker bee sounded inconvenienced because he needed to stop to get the supplies. Well, sorry dude! at least we mentioned this as he would have shown up without the stuff needed! The man was talking when I tried to ask questions and he gets argumentative too. And when I say something about the attitude he just says, I can call my supervisor and cancel the appointment. So if you are forced to deal with Western Home Health care, realize that it is going to suck. Make sure to ask questions and especially state the treatment that you are expecting them to provide, since they are disorganized and rude.
