This place is a scam. I have been looking for apartments in SF from last two months, and I applied to 797 Bush street and the apartment manager Bonnie rejected my application by saying office is not comfortable with my application! This came as a shock to me, because I am a graduate student from USC with a decent job as Software Engineer in the city and no dents in my credit history! At first I thouht it was really my application, however now Its been two months over and i continue to see their ad posting on craiglist. I think ithey earn much more out of applications for this apartment! it was a waste o f $ 40 and waste of my time!

Rating des Ortes: 2 San Francisco, CA
The good: For the most part, everyone, including the building manager, leaves you alone. Rent is on the low end, especially for the area(which is an up-and-coming gulch/neighborhood in-between, the result of The City’s gentrification efforts). Rent control is respected, and there isn’t much yearly increase(it’s something like a $ 12 per year«association» increase). The repair guy seems nice, and gets things done fairly quickly. The(very) BAD: The building manager, Bonnie(who I think is related to Sheila, the owner), is practically insociable. Approaching her with nearly any issue results in her pushing back. Additionally, she’s hardly available, to begin with. There is RAMPANT, BRAZENMAIL/PACKAGE THEFT. Let me repeat that, for you, in case you missed it: There is RAMPANT, BRAZENMAIL/PACKAGE THEFT. Whether it’s dropped off at the mailboxes, or even in front of your door, if you don’t get it, soon after it’s delivered, chances are good that someone else will. I have discussed this to good extent with many of the other tenants, and they all described the same issue of regularly disappearing packages. Not only will the owner/manager do nothing about this, but I found an empty box, from one of my missing shipments, beneath the shredded mail from the manager’s office, in our recycling. There was nothing else in the recycling bin, as it had been emptied just beforehand(I had been checking regularly after the second of three of my packages went missing). That said, it could simply be a coincidence. Whoever it is, I wonder what they do with everyone’s stuff. Drug money? Hookers and blow? eBay? Craigslist? On the matter of mail theft, I’ve notified the Postal Inspector, to open an investigation. I’m uncertain how to handle the same issues, legally, in the case of Fedex and UPS shipments which have gone missing, or if they’re even covered by the same local and federal laws, but I’m sure the USPS police force can put me in the right direction. I’ll update this, as that investigation moves forward. Next, the interiors/renovations are incredibly cheap. The vinyl floor tiles peel up from the floor, the bathub sinks a bit, over time, into the floor, causing the the sealant around its edges to split. There’s also a lot of flex to the tub, so I question if it has adequate support. The flooring around the toilet yellows a bit, meaning either the wax ring was installed incorrectly, or it’s simply a matter of moisture which can’t escape the bathroom. The walls have been completely white-washed, multiple times, and there is evidence that there once was some really nice hardwood panelling and trim, which is now, sadly, buried under multiple layers of white latex paint. The cheap carpeting makes me hope there’s never a fire here, which would likely be caused by the incredibly loose electrical sockets they installed(I’ve combatted this issue with industrial-grade surge strips, which provide a tight plug into nearly anything). Also, the floors are WAY off level. You can plainly see the floor slope downhill. Not sure they can do anything about that, building settle and all, and this building is old. The elevator breaks down once or twice per year. Not sure they can really help that, either, as it’s likely as old as the building(I’m thinking early 1900s). Also, its permit renewal has been ongoing for some time, which is a tad suspicious. All-in-all, if you pay your rent on time, don’t mind when mail walks off, and don’t bother the owner or manager too often, AND have a need for privacy, for whatever reasons(*wink-wink*), this may be a four-star for you. Or, if you just need sommething cheap(in more than one meaning of the word) in a good neighborhood, this might be a three-star for you. Otherwise, spend a bit more for something a little nicer.
