For the only«southern food» in the area i guess it’ll do. Sad this is what people here consider award winning.haha.

My favorite place to get soul food in Bayview! There’s only 8 tables but they do pick-up. The chicken and waffles are freaking amazing! The mashed potatoes had a little too much gravy but the poboys and red velvet waffles are too die for!

Auntie April’s is a really home kitchen style restaurant. The food is great, the staff is very friendly and the prices are pretty cheap. The chicken and waffles was perfectly paired and their waffle batter is amazing! I also had a ham and egg sandwich that was really delicious. The ham was so flavorful. I think it could have used a spread(chipotle mayo or something?) or something to dip it in though. The thing that keeps this from being a 5 star review for me was that it took our food a while to be served, but the food was definitely worth the wait! I give Auntie April’s 4 chickens out of 5 waffles!

Sitting here eating right now. This food is SOOSO good. I ordered the Basa fish with sides greens and Mac and cheese. My fiancé ordered the oxtails greens and black eyed peas. I couldn’t keep my fork off his plate/vice versa. Defiantly will be coming here again. Pricing is normal. Service is good. But the food is great so who cares about anything else.

Must go back. Mouth still watering from the fried chicken breast and fresh strawberry syrup and whipped cream waffle I had last week(called strawberry and cream). So good, so totally legit. Located in Bayview Neighborhood off of 3rd St. Service was slow but worth it. I’m in love!

Have been coming here for a few years now and again(whenever I can get off work early to pick up some dinner) since she opened. The proprietress is an absolutely adorable and fascinating woman. I come here only for the fried catfish, greens, and beans; and cornbread just before closing time, and take it home. Both of my vascular and colorectal surgeons say I can’t have anything else on the succulent menu. A response to some critical reviewers about the«long» wait and lack of spiciness: 1) This is a tiny place and there’s only one cook. It’s not McDonald’s or a Michelin 4-star. The economy is booming and it’s hard to find employees who can afford to live in the area. A few people are turning out some good stuff. This is real food, reasonably priced. Grow up and sit your asses down and wait or call way ahead. Stop feeling so entitled. 2) Regarding«flavor»: If you order fried chicken or catfish… guess what? It will have honest, fresh, chickeny or catfishy flavor, not smothered in something else. I appreciate restaurant food that is not oversalted or over seasoned. My health depends on it. You can always add your own salt and pepper or Sriracha sauce!

Service: I called to Auntie April’s and placed pick-up order of Chicken with fries and mac and cheese on a rainy Friday afternoon. The person who answered made sure to let me know the wait was 20 – 25 minutes. When I arrived to pick up my order the polite, yet busy, staff made sure to greet me and continued to check in with me while they waited on other customers. The place was clean, however, I noticed, a lot of empty ‘hot food’ trays randomly thrown around the kitchen and one person running around trying to perform several tasks at once while the others waited for instructions. Food: I was really disappointed. Mac had no cheese and too much pepper. Chicken was fair. Fries were hard almost as if they were day old. Feedback: This place has potential due to the lack of soul food establishments in San Francisco, however, they need to hire a new chef ASAP, organize their kitchen and train their staff to work together verses having only one person giving random orders in the presence of customers.

Really authentic place(Hunters Point) with unique and tasty red velvet waffles and nice fried chicken. Yummy cheese grits with grilled shrimp. Our friends loved their burger and chopped salad. Service was great. Business was brisk — they do a good takeout business too! Street parking only but it was easy to find a spot. I really wanted to try the carrot cake but was too full… Next time for sure!

I remember this place being better, but that was awhile ago. Ordered chicken and waffles; thigh & leg & buckwheat $ 11. I don’t remember having to choose my waffle batter last time. They have signature red velvet but opted out, maybe I should have tried it because I don’t we’ll be coming back. I also tried my companions grits with eggs and turkey bacon $ 9. Everything just meh… nothing exciting. The side of cornbread $ 3 for two, was probably the highlight of this meal. For this type of place at least I was hoping for a bang for my buck since it lacked creativity or flavor complex. I got none of it.

Don’t do it… beautifully fried chicken but no taste, no seasoning. The waffle was dense… again no taste. The greens were ok, the cornbread was a boxed mix. Chicken and waffle but no other side so greens were ordered separate.

I know reviews are supposed to be about the restaurant as a whole, but as a composite, the total sum of all makes a restaurants rating. This restaurant was closed on a Friday at 9:25 am. I drove out of my way to go to an open establishment. The gate was locked, the closed sign displayed. The hours were clearly posted(they open at 8:00 am), and they should have been open. I put $ 1.25 in the parking meter. There was no food put in my mouth, but I somehow have a bad taste in there. 1 star.

Although this place is in a somewhat sketchy area, the food is worth coming here. I had the friend chicken tenders with the cinnamon waffle. The waffle was really good and the chicken was cooked perfectly, but the chicken was a lot smaller than I expected. After eating, I wasn’t as full as I wish I would have been. The mashed potatoes and gravy were also very yummy! My sister ordered them as a side dish and let me try some. I wished I had ordered some of my own too! The wait time for the food is lengthy, but from what I read in other reviews, there is only one cook? I would definitely come back if I ever happen to be in the area. Next time though, I will order extra chicken.

Came by Auntie April’s for lunch today with 3 friends. We stepped in around 2:45 and sat ourselves and were greeted in minutes. I ordered the 3 piece chicken tenders($ 6), mac n cheese($ 4), and mashed potatoes with gravy($ 4). There was only two people that I could tell preparing the food, but it took a good 30 minutes to come out even though there weren’t many people in the restaurant at the time. However, the food is definitely worth the wait. The chicken tenders were juicy and crispy and cooked to perfection. The mac n cheese was okay, very small, but probably wouldn’t order again. The mashed potatoes were my favorite part of the meal; it came with a lot for only being a small side dish. The gravy was soooo good, and all my friends tried it and loved it as well. My other friends raved about the Louisiana style po boy. We devoured our meals within 5 minutes because it was so delicious! Will most likely come back if I’m in the area.

Just not that good. Embarrassingly small pieces of chicken! I went thigh and leg and I was sorely disappointed. The waffle was decent, but there were a few inedible pieces on both the thigh and the leg, making both a huge let down. I don’t go for fried chicken too often, so when I do, I expect it to be special. This was really not special at all.

They are great. Not small and no over cooked or dry. You don’t need 100 flavors to be great. you need good wings. Auntie April’s Chicken-n-Waffles is great for a night out with friends and to have some wings and beer!

Brunch was okay. French toast was good. Nothing fancy. Sweet tea was amazing until I got a watered down unsweetened refill. The lady was friendly thats all. Shrimp n grits are good if you like gumbo because thats what they taste like. Red velvet waffle taste like plain waffle with food coloring and it was hard as a rock I had to drench it in syrup to be able to cut it. A lot to choose from and I feel like I might have a better experience with their soul food selection.

Not worth the money, I’m surprised that the dollar sign here on Unilocal is only one! This should have at least two or three dollar signs. Portions are admittedly small and not worth it. The food is out for a while and was flavorless. I have been to many soul food places and this was just not good. For appetizers, we ordered the string beans, mac n’cheese, and rice and beans. Nothing was outstanding. The mc was flavorless. I’ve tasted Kraft better. The rice and beans was watered down. At least throw some salt on that! I will not be coming back.

Chicken was juicy and seasoned perfectly! Coffee kept on coming which is a plus for me. I enjoyed my food so much I ordered oxtails, fried fish, macncheese, greens, and red beans and rice to go. Auntie April’s customer service exceeds a 10! It really did have a feel that you were at your aunty’s house. Every time we come the food seems to get better and better.

Wish I could give them 10 stars! We had the following: 2 piece chicken thighs 2 piece chicken wings Bananas Foster waffle Chocolate cake waffle Strawberry cream waffle Hot water corn bread Mac and cheese Greens Yams Shrimp and grits All of which were amazing. The chicken was fried and seasoned to perfection! Pia was our waitress and was so pleasant. She definitely made the experience that much better. The place is in the hood but so worth it lol

i work close by and i have been looking for some great lunch spots. The only thing close to my job is a taco truck. I am a person who likes real food. I’m not a fast food junkie. So when i saw this place and read the reviews on Unilocal i was too excited. I’m not going to say the food is bad, because it’s not. It just had NOFLAVOR. I ordered 3 piece chicken wings w/2 sides(mac & cheese along with greens). The presentation was meh but Im not too much of a stickler about that. The M&C had little to no flavor, the greens were meh, and the chicken… the chicken tastes like they season it with a sprinkle of salt and pepper then just fry it. Overall, i mean if you are close by and want something other than fast food, then by all means enjoy… just don’t expect some real soul food flavoring.

Came in here around 8:45 on a Sunday morning. Server was very friendly. We ordered two orders of chicken and waffles as well as two sides. Over the period of 20 – 25 min, people kept trickling in and it became busier and busier. There is only one person doing the cooking and two people serving everyone. We waited a long time for our food but it was expected. The food here is soooo good!!! The waffle was very rich n buttery. Chicken had great flavor. Tea was alright. Mac n cheese was lighter than I thought it would be but it is still very tasty, different from other places I’ve tried. I would definitely come back here. Just be prepared to wait but they’re doing best they can to get your food out!

Food = good and piping hot. Chicken & grits = delicious. Best restaurant grits. Chicken wings were hot, crispy and moist! $ 9.00 Coffee = strong and delicious. $ 2.00. Service = friendly and attentive. Seating = plenty of seating with a few 2-tops, 84-tops. Kitchen = clean and spotless. I read other reviews and it seems that they’ve listened! Must come back here to try other stuff.

Not too bad if you are craving soul food. It’s in a bit of a ghetto-ish area, so be aware of your surroundings. Be sure to get there early because the restaurant probably only holds around 50 people. We waited about 10 minutes. But the food took a while to get to us, but maybe because we had 9 peeps in our group. We enjoyed most everything on the table. I tried the chicken and waffles, fish and chips(my fav), mac & cheese, and shrimp & grits. The sweet tea was good too. We didn’t do the Gospel brunch so I can’t comment on that, but it does sound like fun and a good deal. I recommend you check out Auntie April’s because it is authentic and Auntie April works behind the counter and is super cool. =)

Late morning –yes, just before 11 and honestly I wanted some eggs and bacon. Then I was told that this is a ‘no pork’ establishment and did I want turkey bacon. This, where they’re frying chicken all day long and serving cobblers and fries and other unhealthy things suddenly didn’t want to have pork? Seemed off. So I asked if I could have a waffle with some fried chicken wing —and a couple of soft scrambled eggs? They said yes. They said«How about two wings»? Those huge meaty wings were the perfect thing. Awesome. And as I cut through the very hot skin and luscious meat, I could instantly call this perfection on a plate. And yes I did have those soft scrams. Properly cooked too. I was simultaneously slopping hot sauce on the chicken and some syrup on the cinnamony waffle. Delicious!

Holy Chicken and Waffles Batman! I love Auntie April’s. Good food. Kind people. Good prices. What more could you ask for? While we did try the Mac N Cheese, the Hash Browns and the Fries, I think our group agreed that the chicken and waffles is where it is at. Also, we can recommend the Bananas Foster. It’s main ingredient is diabetes. PROTIP: If you don’t have a lot of time in the morning, I would recommend calling your order in ahead of time. Every time I have been, our meal took anywhere from 1 – 1.5 hours due to some confusion on the wait staffs part and only having one cook. Totally worth it — just wanted to give you a heads up.
