We love Chin Sushi. I always ask Herman, the owner, to just bring me what’s good tonight and it’s reliably great. If you want a roll, the Simon Roll is hands down the best.

This place has amazing fresh sushi, but it could not be a worse run business. My most recent order was placed at 5:14pm. I have no idea how this happened, but when I called at 7:20, they said it would be another 30 minutes. It was a $ 70 order and despite their error, they were rude, and asked me to «cancel my order because they were busy». They then called me at 7:40, told me it was too far(I’ve ordered from them over 15 times before, so this just didn’t make sense to me), and recommended I find somewhere else to eat. NOJOKE. I’ll never order from them again. I’ve never been treated with so much disrespect from a restaurant in my life. This place is the worst for delivery.

I eat here with my husband about once a month and it’s always delicious! I’m never disappointed when I try a new roll or dish, and seasonal items are always great.

Wow, what happened to this place? It has always been slow for delivery, usually 90 minutes or more, but the sushi was good so just planned ahead. Our last order was over the usual 90 minutes so I called. The man who answered the phone said he didn’t have our order. After some back and forth when I explained that my credit card had already been charged, I asked him what he was going to do to make it right, he told me to «take my business elsewhere». Unreal. Thank you sir, I have and your business will never see another penny of my money.

Used to be one of my favorite delivery places! Unfortunately they make way too many mistakes(frequently) no soy sauce, no dipping sauce for tempura, cold tempura and soup, the list goes on and on. You know that feeling when your starving and waiting for your favorite dish to arrive and then it’s wrong or missing altogether? Yup, this is a typical experience with sushi chin. Does it matter that I order from them weekly? Nope. Are they nice or try to remedy the situation? Definitely not! In fact, the reason I finally decided to write this review is because Thursday Nov. 6th, I received another wrong order, called to see if they could send me what was missing, and the young man who answered told me if I didn’t like their service I shouldn’t order from them anymore and hung up! I sure hope who ever owns this place takes a closer look at his employees tactics. Easy to go from being a successful place to totally dead due to bad experiences like this one. :(

Terrible delivery service. Almost 3 hours and no delivery! Called at 1 ½ hours out and the guy said they were on there way. Now no one picks up the phone when we call! The one time we don’t have any food in the house and the kids are crying! We need to call our credit card company to cancel the transaction. Don’t ever use this place! Finally got spoke to someone and they did not have my order. I have my credit card to their employee and he did not put it in the computer. Not a safe place! Now I need to keep tabs daily on my credit card! Don’t risk this place! Now that I have looked, multiple people have had bad experiences. We feel very uncomfortable that someone has our credit card number. Big bummer

Food is so good. It’s casual but fine dining quality meals. It’s like artisan Japanese food. I think this place is a hidden gem. I love the fried oysters and any of the special rolls. The prices are decent. They are very clean and friendly as well.

By saying, «Meh», it’s a fairly accurate description. We went in with no expectaions, aside from the fact that I pass by it every so oftern. It was clean, though seemed to be rather bright for a dinner spot. The selection of Sake was«Hot», «Cold», «Filtered» or «Unfiltered», with no specifications of quality or brand. Our cold, unfiltered sake had some rice chunks… but it wasn’t terrible. We had a roll, and some sashimi; once again, feeling a serious«Meh» factor as it didn’t make us go «Wow!» or even say, «This is terrible»…it was all just meh. Probably won’t go again, but wouldn’t knock it in a pinch. I’m sure they have a good family following. I’d say, go for the Phở, which looked pretty popular.

Do not be deceived by the sushi bar you see in the front. They are not sushi chefs. They do not know sushi. They don’t even have all the typical fish you would find at a sushi restaurant. The men you see serving the sushi do not speak English so they can’t even converse with you about what is being served. Honestly, they couldn’t even get my order right when I asked for something. This is not what a sushi restaurant should be like. And to too it all off, they serve Chinese food! Garlic noodles?!? The hell is that. Don’t call yourself a sushi restaurant and serve crappy things that have nothing to do with sushi. Chinese restaurants are not sushi restaurants and I feel incredibly annoyed that the men behind the sushi bar think they are sushi chefs. What a waste of a dinner and stomach space.

Ordered from the EAT24 site and ordered two rolls that I have had at other Sushi restaurants. The wait wasn’t too bad, It was about an hour. When I opened the box, I found there was a lack of presentation. Both rolls were tons of rice with small amount of actual fish. I was not impressed and for the price, should have been much, much more. Texture was mushy. I would not order from here again as being below average for Sushi is a gamble.

Like other reviewers below, placed order online. An hour later, nothing. I call to see where my food is, they say«it’ll be there in half an hour». I wait another 30 minutes, nothing. Call again, they say they don’t know. Then hang up on me! I guess they were busy, but it was very rude. Got a refund. No apology. Terrible customer service. Do not order delivery from them! Especially not from GrubHub! Appalled by lack of customer service.

This place is a conundrum for me. It is not a traditional sushi bar in my book although there is a sushi bar and they make tons of sushi. There are so many rolls(maybe 3x what you’d find in a normal sushi bar. In fact, I recommend looking at your Unilocal app when ordering. I often forget what I ordered last time and have to look up the pictures on Unilocal to remember. Came here with family last minute on Valentines and it was empty at 5:30 but filled up while we were there. It is a bit cold in there and I hate the rock/rap they play. Additionally for some reason there is always some family which decides to let their kid run around watching the sushi, then looking at your table when you are eating, etc. I kid you not, at least 3 – 4 times this has happened. So odd… Nonetheless, we come back here often because the sushi is good and unique. Recommend Godzilla, Simon and Tootsie Rolls. Get the Garlic Noodles with Dungeoness Crab too. The Rainbow Roll($ 12) is probably the most unique. The best thing would be to go with a party of about 8 and explore many rolls with each person getting a piece. I don’t know about those who order sushi to go. I just never do. Walking around with raw fish seems well, «fishy» to me. I don’t criticize the wait staff, but there is one lady who talks like the Soup nazi, but that is just her culture. She’s really nice once you get to know her. Parking is a bit of a pain as well. Not sure how they do it, but bathroom is up 3 stairs. Not sure what a handicapped person does.

Everything was a bit off tonight All the fish seemed less than fresh. The cuts were off so that you could not bite through the fish. The tuna on the rolls were off flavor. Once again they were out of escolar. I think when Herman is away the staff does play. Very disappointing.

I loved eating here. The food was great, the service was great, and the restaurant is clean. Right after I’m seated, hot tea arrives and it takes about 10 minutes or less for the sushi to be brought out! It is somewhat of an intimate place to bring a date, there is low lighting and low volume. Must try the 1. Lizzy Roll 2. Codzilla roll 3. Simon Roll

After eating here three times in quick succession, this is now our absolute favorite place for superior Japanese food. Their small plates are exquisite(and some are not all that small either.) We loved the sushi dumplings, spinach leek cannelloni, and the hamachi kama, a favorite of my husband’s. Their soups are tasty and not nearly as oversalted as in most Japanese restaurants, where you can sometimes feel your tongue curl up from too much sodium. We have yet to work our way through their complete sushi menu, but so far, everything has been above-average and beautifully presented. We’ve had a couple of their dinner entrees, including the ahi tuna with sauteed spinach and mushrooms(see posted picture.) The tuna was seared to perfection, the vegetables hot and tasty. The chef here has a real feeling for vegetables, BTW, they are cooked with love instead of treated as mere decoration. If you are looking for Japanese food that is both delicious and on the healthy side, give this place a try!

Mehhh. Barely 2.5 stars. But not 3… This is a relatively small restaurant on California St in the Inner Richmond district with not a sniff of Japanese sushi tradition. Parking can be complicated, give yourself some time. If you enjoy quality nigiri sushi, stay far away from here– the selection here is very weak and the nigiri is very very ordinary at best. I think since the restaurant is small, and the clientele volume is low– they don’t branch out and get the ‘best’ and ‘highest quality’ fish, nor the less common fish(ie Toro, Anago, Kinmedai, etc), which makes this a very ordinary sushi place in my opinion. What they had was of decent quality, but this is clearly a ‘roll’ place. 1.5 stars for nigiri. Rolls were a bit more imaginative, but how creative can you be when you are dumping spicy sauces on rolls? The taste was fine, but through the majority of the 8 – 10 different rolls we tried, I forgot there was fish inside, as these were so gimmicky in design. That said, Osaka roll was nice, Heather roll, Simon roll, and a few others were all good or better. 3 stars for rolls. The price was a pleasant surprise, our group of 11 ordered food and drinks generously and had a bill of $ 420– something I can achieve at times with my wife alone at high-end sushi places! LOL. 3 stars for pricing. Anyways, if you seek a great, Japanese-style sushi experience, you will be sorely disappointed by the selection/execution. If you like generously sized, saucy & goopy rolls, you may indeed enjoy this place. Extremely unlikely I will be back, just doesn’t fit my palate for sushi.

My friend purchased the Groupon deal after we saw Chin’s 4 star rating on Unilocal.Although their menus have a good selection and portion size for the rolls, their food rated average. SUSHI: *Spider Roll Maki($ 10.50) — Good. I tend to favor rolls where the rice is inside the roll. The roll contained deep fried softshell crab, tobiko, cucumber, and avocado with sweet unagi sauce drizzled over each piece. *Shrimp Tempura Maki($ 7) — Good. it was a basic roll cut into eight large pieces containing avocado and shrimp tempura with the rice on the outside rolled over tobiko. OTHERFOOD: *Dungeness Crab Garlic Noodles($ 16) — Disappointing and bland. This was the main dish that sold me on coming to the restaurant. Thick noodles had pieces of crab, slices of shitake mushrooms, and sliced mustard greens tossed together and sesame seeds sprinkled on top… but where was the garlic?! *Crab & Shrimp Gyoza w/Veggie Salad($ 9, 3 pieces) — Ok. Although the gyozas were decent size, you could only taste the shrimp filling. Make sure you use the vinegar/soy sauce for extra flavoring. It was a bit odd that salad was served with the gyoza though… On the plus side, a large nigori sake was $ 7/bottle. SERVICE: The older lady who took our order seemed a bit short and not very friendly. The younger waitress was the complete opposite. PARKING: Difficult. Do check the bus stops signs as some allow you to park there after 8pm.

Been on a delivery kick and decided to try Chin’s. Ordered online and got a call a little later saying they didn’t have any uni. No problem. I understand that people run out of things. They asked if we wanted anything else instead and we said a couple sides of rice would be great. Delivery came less than an hour later, but instead of swapping out the uni charge for the 2 sides of rice, they ended up giving us an edamame and a miso soup to make up the difference. I didn’t really like this, but whatever. It wasn’t that much money so we didn’t make a fuss. The thing that bothered me was that we didn’t pay by credit card, we paid cash. So it should have been easy to amend the amount. Now on to the food… Edamame: Overcooked so incredibly mushy. I don’t mind if it’s a little overcooked, but we ended up tossing this cuz it was so mushy. Seaweed Salad: I looked at their menu online and it said this was $ 4. On the online delivery site it was $ 5. A little small for the price, but I liked the salad. Miso Soup: I love soup and this was so disappointing. Very bland. I also wish this had some seaweed or green onions in this cuz with just the tofu and broth it needed a textural element. Dungeness Crab Garlic Noodles: I actually liked this. It could have used a little more Garlic flavor, but the portion was huge and we got a good amount of crab. Also comes with broccoli, onions and mushrooms. Yum! Amaebi: This was good! The heads were fried nicely and I enjoyed every bite! We also order the Hamachi Kama and Daniel roll, but I didn’t really eat those so I don’t have any comments. The Hamachi Kama came with a good portion of mushroom garlic rice and the Daniel roll was 8 pieces. All in all I enjoyed everything I ordered. I would have given this place 4 stars, except for the two things they gave us to make up the difference in uni price were awful. Also, we asked for extra wasabi and ginger and all we got was what came with the sushi. Not sure if that one leaf of wasabi they made was larger than your normal portion, but I wanted more.

SPECIALTYMAKI Rolls are the winners here. We got a bunch to share. DANIELROLL So fatty with the avocado spread and they don’t hold back. Hamachi, shrimp, avocado… yumminess SIMONROLL This is actually my favorite. Tuna deep fried tempura with spicy crab. Simple and flavorful. LILYROLL Seared tuna shrimp tempura with spicy lemon sauce. Pretty yummy roll as well. POKISALAD We asked them to do a salmon poki salad but it was very below par. The salad was not mixed well and the ingredients were so bland. Just get salmon sashimi. The dressing was almost non-existent and i didn’t enjoy this very much. HOTTEA Kept coming, which is always good. Nothing about this place stood out. The rolls were all good, service was fine, but I will not likely come back unless I’m close by and really craving for some good rolls.

I don’t like to give bad reviews because I understand that everyone is trying to make a living. But these people should have just opened a Chinese restaurant instead of trying to be Japanese. We ordered a shrimp tempura roll, which was probably the most disgusting roll I’ve ever had. Our udon bowls were incredibly bland, and to top it off, mine had a hair in it and my husband’s udon had a fly squashed on the rim of bowl. I’m just happy we didn’t order anything raw! We’ll stick with Tanuki across the street where the chefs are actually Japanese.
