Came here and ate the bread bowl of clam chowder and cheese fries. The cheese fries was a pretty big order. Yea it’s pricey but it’s good I enjoyed it! Not the best view either but service and the food are great

Had the chowder in a bread bowl and it was the worst I have had!!! The bread bowl was hard and tasteless and the chowder was nothing better than what you get from a can!!!

Ice cold chowder. Fisherman’s Grotto across the street is way better. The fish tacos weren’t bad and the calamari is passable. Much better options if you just walk a bit further.

Chowder Hut was… okay. Nothing notable… just basic. Pros: — a plethora of seating — easy to order. Because where you place your order is away from the sidewalk, you’re not having to side-step for the passersby while you’re ordering/waiting from sidewalk vendors — breadbowls are from Boudin. — service was pleasant — the Classic Garlic fries were bomb. Eat it. Cons: — the Original Clam Chowder had adequate amount of crab and potato. However, the chowder was bland and not warm enough for me. It was good enough to finish it and hollow out the breadbowl but I may try somewhere else next time.

The calamari was decent. Fries were okay. The spicy fish sandwich was nothing special. We should have eaten across the street — more vendors and seating nearby.

My boyfriend and I stopped in here after a long haul down the entire pier only to find a couple working Jessica and John who couldn’t have made our experience any more delightful. They had great recommendations for drinks I myself had one of the house frozen drinks the ambience was so warm and inviting with fireplaces and large TVs with the Warriors game on. We indulged in fish tacos recommended why John and next time I’ll definitely try the fish sandwich which was recommended by his wife.

The boyfriend and I stopped by here one night when looking for a reasonably priced meal down by the wharf. Short, simple menu which was just fine with us! There are two sides. A walk up service and a sit down full service. We just decided to walk up and order ourselves. First thing we noticed AFTER we sat down and already ordered was 4 little mice running around the tables scavenging for food. Considering we were right by the docks, it’s understandable but still a little off putting. We ordered the clam chowder, grilled fish tacos and half a pound of their peel and eat garlic shrimp. Clam chowder– this wasn’t the best chowder around but was ok. It was a little on the fishier side for my taste. Some Unilocalers said theirs was all potatoes and chowder with no clams but I disagree! It tasted pretty clammy to us! Fish tacos– came with cabbage, onions and a sriracha cream sauce. The menu says it comes with avocado but I didn’t realize until the end of the meal that it didn’t even come on it, so I wasn’t able to ask for them to add it. Again, these were ok. I’m not sure what the fish was but it was super dark. Usually I’m used to white, flakey fish in fish tacos but this was slightly different. The taste wasn’t bad at all but I’ve had better! Peel and eat shrimp– extremely hard to peel but the taste was delicious! This was our favorite part of our meal! Would consider coming back to try the fish and chips or the spicy fish sandwich but if you’re looking for chowder, you could probably get better elsewhere!

Stumbled onto this restaurant basically because it was the first place we walked by and we were starving. This was our first stop during our weekend in San Francisco. It is pretty casual, first come first seat. Even though we were outside at 4:00pm it was actually pretty warm with the cool breeze. They do not have their own restroom so plug your nose if you have to go, you have to use the public restroom next door. The waitress was really nice sand the burger and fries was actually enough to feed our 11 year old and 8 year old. Hot chocolate hit the spot for our kids and the beers. at $ 4.50 per, went down twice as nice. My daughter and I had the clam chowder bowls and quite honestly, I have to say, at almost $ 10 a bowl, should have had way more inside of it. The spicy fish sandwich was good and served with fries. For the price though, I would expect more. Try going along the beginning of Fisherman’s wharf for more bang to your buck.

I was in a rush and I was hungry! I was about to get on hop on hop off city tour bus and I did not want to get off until I did one complete tour. So many choices here in fisherman’s wharf and I decided to stop in here quick to go fried calamari since specially because I ate many times at the vendors I wanted to try different… Fried calamari why are they giving me french fries too, anyWho I did not like it, maybe fried in NOT so fresh oil??? I felt a little sick, normally I would have them take it back and give me something else but obviously it was to go and I was not around the restaurant anymore.

I had some friends visiting from Vegas, so naturally I HAD to take them to the wharf and show them how good ol’ seafood is done. I know I didn’t want to take them to one of those chowder stands, but I still wanted grade A chowder. We also were craving some liquor. We stumbled upon this place and the rest is history. Each of us ordered the spicy bloody mary, which was absolutely delicious. I’m a bit of a spicy fire fiend, so I had to pour some Tapatio in mine when no one was looking. It did the job and I enjoyed every last drop! In fact, I ordered another one. All of my friends got either the clam chowder or the crab chowder. I wanted to be unique and different, so I ordered the crab melt sandwich. We all shared some fired pickles or «frickles». The frickles were absolutely divine, and came with a generous serving of a thousand island spicy sauce. We finished the entire basket of frickles(no shame)! My crab melt was sooooo good! It was the perfect size, the crab was super fresh, and it came with a heaping side of fries that were straight out of the fryer. My friends chowders were. okay. I wasn’t impressed, and was a little bummed I had taken them to this place for the sole purpose of chowder, when the chowder wasn’t the best thing on the menu, obviously. It’s the chowder hut so you’d think that would be the staple of the day. No way. All in all, great experience, AMAZING bloodies and frickles, chowder was mediocre at best, and the crab melt was absolutely divine. Will be coming back.

Seafood that is good is difficult to come by. For one there is an art to making good seafood and if a place does not specialize in it, then its that more of a challenge to deliver a high quality product: Chowder Hut Fresh Grill gets it right. The location is absolutely stunning, right by the Bay and outdoor seating also a bar. The menu is not complicated, fresh tasty food, Crab, Fish, Sandwiches. My partner and I went with the fish and chips and the fried shrimp: perfection on a plate. It is the best fried fish I have had and the same holds true for the shrimp. Also the service is fantastic. A sure hit.

Their food was definitely not up-to-par, but it was located right in the Fisherman Wharf, which was really cool. We had a great spot for people watching and could see Alcatraz in the distance. I would probably not ever order food from this place ever again.

I just have to say that I ordered everything on the menu, literally everything on the menu. The reason for this was because it is seafood and I was on vacation, so a little bit of each and I was good for. The service was very very rude, and I could not stand the cashier. This place would have received at least a 3-star rating, but because of the service, it definitely goes lower. In search for a place at Fisherman’s Wharf, thinking because this was in it’s own building it would be better than others, was very mistaken. Go enjoy real seafood from the vendors across from this restaurant.

Right smack on the middle of the famous fisherman’s wharf comes this seafood joint. This place seems newer than most of the shack in the Fisherman’s Wharf and hey it’s a great addition in the group. The fish and chips are not bad; however the clam chowder bread bowl is great! A lot of locals will tell you to order clam chowder in the wharf, they are right! You can never go wrong especially in this joint cause they nailed it. So fishy and hearty, it is worth going. The good part of eating here is that you have a sit while enjoying the smell of fish and view of this famous landmark(Fisherman’s Wharf).

First let me start by saying that all the food here is to DIE for. Had’nt had a great eat like this in a while. The Garlic Fries are to DIE for. The Crab Melt and Spicy Fish Sandwhich are to DIE for. The Fried Calamari and Pound of Shrip were and are to DIE for. Honestly, you should put me in a coffin and sign my Death Certificate, because the food here was completely delicious. Second, the people here at this restaurant are great. Their hospitality levels are through the roof. The true stars of this restaurant are John A. and his girl Jessica. Our group was greeted and served in with the utmost respect and speed that I’ve seen at any restaurant in a long time. The customer support and family oriented nature of John and Jessica made the trip from the East Bay to this city restaurant worth every cent that was spent. Definitely going to recommend this place to anyone wanting to have a good time with those they love and care about. Being around good people and a good environment sure does make a difference. Thank You John A., Jessica, and the whole Chowder Hut staff.

It seems a bit like a fast food Chowder joint but it wasn’t bad. Our server was a very nice guy and would come by every few minutes to check up on us. I had the chowder and the shrimp. Chowder was pretty good but the shrimp was simply ok. Drinks were good but were served in small plastic cups. Not sure I’d stop in again though.

Three stars seems about right: A-OK. We were wandering around Fisherman’s Wharf and got hungry. There are public restrooms in the back of this building, so it was handy and got decent reviews. Sweetie ordered clam chowder and liked it; I think her impression was along the lines of my «good, not great.» Came in a nice sourdough bowl. I wanted crab chowder but they were out; settled for a solid chili, in the same bowl. Prices are reasonable for what you get. Service was efficient and helpful. It’s not amazing. It’s not the best seafood in town. But it’s handy, and pretty good. Think of it as fast-casual along the bay, and you’ll be fine. There are lots of places that might be better, but this was handy when we needed it.

You cannot, must not visit Fisherman’s Wharf and miss out on eating clam chowder. This is one place you see right away. Its separate from all the other restaurants and they have those firepits outside. Perfect for a cool day when you still wanna sit outdoors. Clam chowder(3 stars) — I forgot how much it was, I think around $ 14/bowl. It was okay really… Nothing to brag about. The portion is huge so there’s a lot to give the birds after. If you feel like getting pooped on. Still a good experience all in all.
