Chung Hing Produce is mostly that-produce. inside has only a spotty inventory of canned groceries, sauces, noodles. the aisles are cluttered with stuff. buys: baby bok choy.(.79/lb.) –seem to be, babies bigger here than elsewhere –not labeled, just assumed it was. leftovers: –not a madhouse like on stockton st.

Popped in for emergency ingredients during dinner preparation! Seems to be a typical Chinese market, if cleaner than most. No credit cards accepted, and I was a few cents short on my purchase, but they gave it to me anyway! So thumbs up there. I’ll try and go back for that reason alone, although their usual hours are probably not real convenient for me. Still a lot nicer than the highly questionable E&E back up Powell.

Being away from Stockton, this produce place is definitely a lot less crowded. Their main business is with restaurants while retail is secondary. Years ago, they were the only shop in Chinatown that carries the tender greens from LA. Price is slightly higher than the ones on Stockton street, a price I’m willing to pay to stay away from the crowds.
