My husband and I always eat here when we have a chance to be at the SFSU campus for an event. FABULOUS salad bar… in a town where, surprisingly, salad bars are scarce. Many different options at different stations catering to meat-eaters, vegetarians and different kinds of international food. I wish I could eat here every night!

I see why they call this place ‘shitty eats.’ They can’t even cook a goddamn tortilla properly – always undercooked. There is also this dude that always asks me how the food is. It is shit, bro. I starve myself to make myself able to eat this garbage. What I dislike the most is that I’ll try something and it will be so bad that I’ll have to throw it away.

If you like to have no options for a buffet this is the place for you! I walk in all they have is a sandwich bar, soup, and cereal. I here everyday and they have no variety of food. Sometimes your lucky if they are even serving food.

city eats has great food, great options for vegetarians, and very friendly hard working staff that has to put up with grumpy, «entitled», and rude college students all day. great place!

I feel like this place has uped the ante since last year. My job over the summer let us have a free meal every Wednesday as place to build community with the students, teachers, staff and other tutors. I don’t understand the negative reviews, because the food here I thought was great. It had everything: a grill, soups, salads, cereals, desserts. From my eight weeks eating here I personally liked the italian wedding soup, the quesadilla food station, the chocolate chip cookies and the crème brûlée– but all of the food was pretty good. After the job ended I was definitely considering getting a staff pass but I’m still debating :)

Pretty rad for vegetarians. Lots of options, good desserts. Healthy stuff! Lunch is by far the best time to come. Full grill and GREAT sandwiches. Try the Oh Bella! Lots of fresh fruit and veggies.

This place is gross. I don’t think I would call it real food. Maybe things changed since I last ate here in 2011 – my friend in the dorms, with no hesitation, let me take one of his meal plans when I was in between classes. I feel sorry for these freshmen who live in the Marys and have the everyday meal plan. I was fortunate enough to live in the Towers my freshman year yet Trader Joe’s hadn’t been built yet… so I had fewer grocery shopping options. I think Shitty Eats needs to at least pretend like they can copy SF’s eclectic cuisine and give these students their money’s worth.

I don’t think I saw this place at its best. College food service, so my expectations weren’t high. But, nevertheless, I was underwhelmed, having plenty of experience with college food service venues, just not recently. Ordered a spinach salad which listed a vinaigrette dressing, but instead it was blue cheese. Spinach was not fresh, but wilted. Lines for«brunch» menus(breakfast all day on Saturday apparently) were long, as it was Sneak Peak day for new«acceptees» and their parents, hence why I was there. I think we made the denizens(students) grumpy in that we were there and were making the lines long.

I haven’t seen any recent reviews on this place and I just ate here for my first time today. I am a junior transfer student, and I have to say that this place was pretty decent. I went in around lunch time to get some basic food and found that they were still doing breakfast stuff with sandwiches and bagels. It was all really good quality, especially compared to what I have back in my apartment’s kitchen. Yes it is the basic common eating area on campus, and you can’t expect the highest quality standard on the food. If anything, students should be most excited about how it is all you can eat, and I know being on the lowest meal plan, all you can eat is way better than high quality food. I will be back to eat here many times because I am rather forced to eat here. But even if I had more choice on what I eat, I think I would still be hitting this place up just as much.

Came here to eat while visiting a friend and the guy below me is right. That manager lady, if Patricia is her name, is a bee-otch!

Might as well change the name of this place to «shitty eats». Because that’s what it is. This place has no variety whatsoever when it comes to lunch and dinner. Not only that, but I’ve seen flies everywhere and I found a piece of dried up lettuce on my spoon one day. DISGUSTING. Anyway, what really made me hate this place was the fact that I, myself, got food poisoning from here. I could tell it was from here, because as I came back after eating breakfast here(I had cereal with milk, and a glass of apple juice), my stomach immediately started hurting like hell as well as making all sorts of odd noises, and I was feeling really nauseous. I didn’t end up throwing up(thank God), but I had no appetite and was feeling really nauseous with on and off stomach pain for the next few days. I think it was the milk that caused it, because I remember it tasting somewhat sketchy. I ended up going to the student health center and the doctor who examined me told me that it was probably food poisoning. The only good things about this place are the following: 1) There is some variety when it comes to eating breakfast. They have cereal, waffles, pancakes, donuts, eggs, fruits, etc. 2) They have free newspapers(USA Today and the San Francisco Chronicle) as you enter. But hey, I’m not a big fan of getting food poisoning. Are you? 1 star

I am happy to be one of the few who is willing to recognize that this dining center has to be commented on and COMMENDED for helping to serve healthy sustainable foods. It IS all you can eat, so you need to watch yourself. Freshmen 15 is completely possible, but that’s your fault, not the food’s. The food has REALLY improved in the past 5 years, and i would be willing to eat there any meal of the day. There is ALWAYS something to eat, you just need to find what you’re in the mood for. Since the menu is continuously changing, you do need to understand, if you’re making something new every other day, you can’t reach perfection on your first try of everything. Keep up the work and improvements DC!!!

I think one of the reasons why I love this place is because me and boyfriend of over a year had our first date here. At the time we were still«talking», I told him about this place at school that had a buffet and he seemed pretty excited when I was telling him about it. One day he asked me out to eat at the DC with him before he went to his night class so we did. We pretty much got to know each other and shared some laughs but we ended up eating only one plate in spite the fact that it was a buffet. I guess we were getting to know each other that we forgot to eat a lot. Now every time we come here now, it reminds us of our first date. Second reason why I love coming here is that I don’t gotta cook and there’s a variety of food. I live off campus and I’m too busy studying and sometimes I don’t feel like cooking I come here. It’s rare that I come here though cause I don’t wanna gain that freshman 15. Seems like people that live on campus loves coming here but ends up gaining that extra 15 lbs. Plus, there’s times when they have themes. I came to the Italian night one and remembered they had an Italian lady with a spaghetti with meatballs on her head(actually like on her hat) going to different tables and greeting everyone. Overall, a good place to go to but no to much. Just a reminder it’s cash only and obviously you can use your meal card or whatever which is your ID I believe to eat here.

Having lived in the dorms I would say that one of the best places to see everyone you know is here at the DC. Although the food is pretty bad, you can’t really go wrong with a place where you can get almost anything you want to eat and hang out with friends, check out girls, and eye the fucker that you really hate. If you live in the dorms its pretty good for SFSU dorm life. If not stay away, not worth it.

Want to gain your freshman 15? Then head over to City Eats, or as everyone used to call it, Shitty Eats. The Dining Hall at SF State, which seemed sadder every time I would visit a friend’s school and compare their dining hall. I remember the best part was when they brought in a wok for you to make your own stir fry… yum.
