This place is named Drunken Sushi and it’s often opened until 2am. Despite the implications the name provides, this place is not what it seems. I came here with a party of 12 that was fairly loud around 10:30pm-11pm. We were quickly scolded by the conservative server and told to wait outside. Despite only needing to push three tables(already next to each other) together, it took about 40 minutes to be seated. During this time a quieter group of 4 was seated before us. When we were finally able to be seated it took 20 – 30 minutes for us to place our order.(6 or so ordered a main dish, 2 had appetizers, and the others had a drink or nothing.) Another hour passed before we were served. The whole time we were scolded and given bad/rude service for being loud. Some examples: As the server walked around to serve our table we kindly asked if she could take a picture of our group. Immediately in an irritated tone she told us she couldn’t do it until after serving everyone. Okay sure, we understand that, however, that never happened. She went back to her post behind the register the moment she finished serving and didn’t bat an eye in our direction. Scolded when loud/Given an irritated look when attracting her attention Water took almost as long as the food to serve and tea was not offered. The food itself: A bit pricey, but decent. I shared a drunken bomb with my friend and we both thought it was pretty good. Serving was fair. If you must have midnight sushi, get it to go and avoid the horrendous service.

Drunken Sushi insinuates that you come here after hitting up the bars, clubs and lounges! It can get rowdy during the late, wee hours and their sushi is packed with saucy, sashimi, rice goodness. If you do go here during the afternoons or evenings, the ambiance offers the opposite of late night rowdiness. The décor and humble being of this desolate restaurant, makes it a calming place to be at. However, the name of this place is focused on the late night crew! I like how they name their sushi rolls after one worded adjectives or adverbs, such as beautiful, together and whatever roll. It’s quite amusing.

Went here after eating some rolls at Shimo(the sushi joint a few doors down) and being told the kitchen was closed(at 11:08PM when they advertise they stay open until Midnight). We were still hungry so we decided what the hell let’s give Drunken Sushi a try… once we did we wished he had started AND ended our dinner here. Upon walking in the atmosphere is warm and friendly, the décor is pretty cool, and there are no strange smells lingering in the air(unlike Shimo). The waitress quickly seated us, and came back for our drink and food order a few minutes later. We ordered: the Mine Roll — Avocado, Tobiko, and Shiso topped with Salmon and thin lemon slices and the Swamp Roll — Spicy Tuna Roll with Seaweed Salad On top Once they came out they not only looked delicious but they tasted delicious as well! So glad we ordered two completely different rolls, the Swamp Roll was spicy and delicious dipped in soy sauce, and the Mine Roll was so bright and flavorful, the slivers of lemon on top of the salmon was just an amazing flavor combination that I’ve never experienced at any other sushi joint. I am not sure what is up with all of the reviewers saying«you have to be drunk to eat here» because that was not my experience everything tasted terrific and for 11:40PM on a Thursday night the place was pretty full and everyone seemed to be enjoying their eats. The only complaint I would have is that the Mine Roll was a little rice heavy… meaning that the filling to rice ratio was a little off but that was easily solved by using my chopsticks to scrape of a little extra rice here and there. All and all not a super«traditional» place to go but still great food and great combinations of flavor! I’m also inclined to say their prices are pretty much typical for sushi in the area. WEWILLBEBACK.

Omg… the service at this place. SMFH… My friends came here one night after going to Purple Kow. We waited awhile to be seated even though no one was in front of us and as soon as we sat down, we asked the waitress for water. We started looking through the menu and she came back to take our order. As she was leaving, she snatched the menu from my friends hand and left. We didn’t think too much of it. A few minutes later we had to call the waitress back to ask for our water since she never gave it to us. She came back with our water then soon after with our food. We noticed that when another group of older folks came, they were treated differently. They got their water as soon as they sat down the waitress was nicer to them. We ate our food and didn’t complain or anything. Their food is pretty good and was visually appealing. But their service is horrible. After we finished eating we paid our bill and left but didn’t leave any tip since we felt like they were rude. We never leave a place without tip, but this place was one of a kind. We left and headed to our car. The waitress ran out and stopped us as we were driving away. We stopped and asked her what was wrong. She said we didn’t leave tip… WTF! My friends and I looked at each other. Then my boyfriend told her we felt like she was being rude to us, ignored us when we asked politely, and that she didn’t deserve a tip! Crazy! That never happened to us but this woman was crazy.

Please Stay AWAYATALLCOST!!! Pro: This place opens late, when all other restaurants closed and you have nowhere to go? you are forced to come here Cons: Where can i begin? Came here late night with a group of friends who didn’t feel hungry at all. When i ordered over 25 dollar worth of food for myself, the waitress gave us this look on her face and REFUSED to leave when i finish ordering. It terrorized everyone at the table, so my friends were FORCED to order food despite they weren’t hungry at all. At the end, a 25 dollar bill turned into close to a 80 dollar bill !!! Everyone felt extremely uncomfortable for the entire time!!! I came here a couple of times, previous to this visit. Now i can remember clearly why i was always reluctant to come here. The food is really over priced, the service here is very unprofessional and poor. For example, the waitress just left the menus on one side of the table, while i am sitting all the way on the other side. I was desperately trying to grab a menu because i was sooooooo hungry. She should of left it in the middle, so everyone could reach it. At the end, we couldn’t even enjoy our food in peace, we jumped out of the chairs in a rush and left in a hush. Never coming back again !!!

It was 8:00pm in San Francisco and my 87 year old auntie wants sushi after a full late afternoon into evening of grocery shopping. Two of her usual favorite places were closed, so we go down to Chinatown West… aka Clement Street. We were going to go to the old fashioned greasy spoon but then we saw the Drunken Sushi. The place was empty. She says, «that’s either a good thing(for service), or a bad thing(for food).» We got our choice of tables and ordered. They have a pretty extensive sushi menu with very hip descriptions, as well as udon, donburi and regular dinners. She got beef teriyaki and I ordered gomae and sushi. Everything was quite good. Her beef teriyaki dish was quite a lot of food for a 4’11″ 87 year old dynamo, so she took half home. The sushi was good and gomae was really good. And when we left, there were quite a few late night eaters dining here since this place apparently stays open quite late. I knocked off one star because I think they are a bit pricey. But we will definitely come back here again, maybe for lunch.

I thought highly of this place since i saw reviews from friends and all these«poppin» comments from late night dives at this joint. Came by for a quick dinner bite with Unilocaler Jenn T. and this place was almost empty! Just one other couple seated besides me and the buddy. We ordered some sashimi and two rolls altogether. Spicy tuny roll, 4 pc hamachi and salmon and i think a rainbow roll. The price we paid was not worth the food we received. I still felt hungry after! Service: not impressive at all. i guess i cant blame the waitress too much since it was such a slow night. maybe i’ll give it one last try for a drunken night note: parking is horrible. took me 20 minutes

Mm, this place is delicious! I really enjoy the ambiance; there’s kind of a dreamy, relaxing and calm feel. The food is great and beautifully put together. The quality is definitely worth the price in terms of the sushi rolls. I had the drunken bomb and a few others and they were fresh and full of flavor. The sauces that accompany the sushi rolls are a good touch. We also had the chicken katsu. It’s average, nothing special, not my favorite. Your meal could do without it; trust me, you won’t miss it. Lastly we had the mango and green tea mochi ice cream. They’re probably from a box. For $ 4 you get 2 pieces cut in half. Although I can get them for a cheaper price in an Asian market, it was a good end to a delicious meal!

The Sushi here is really good. All of the sauces really complement the sushi rolls. I ordered the Kani Kani appetizer, the sashimi appetizer, the Together roll(but asked for it to not be baked and still raw), and the Sweety roll. All were good except the Kani Kani. The Kani Kani was baked Crab in a bed of their special sauces, but because there was so many mayo based sauces at the bottom of the bowl, ever piece of crab you picked up had way too much sauce and tasted like pure mayonnaise. The sushi was really good, and was a little sad to see no one else there on a Friday night. This place is so good it should be packed. One of the bonuses is that this place is open till 2am.

I met up with a friend for dinner here on Saturday night. It was absolutely empty when we arrived around 7/7:30 which was surprising. We ordered the Boy roll, the Swamp roll, the Scallop Dynamite roll, and the Mine roll. All of them were delicious! We also ordered a bottle of sake to share and were quite giggly by the end of the meal so maybe best to split that 3 or 4 ways… I feel like I always have sticker shock when I go to sushi, and this was no exception. It’s pretty expensive. But service was good, food was tasty, and I would definitely recommend this place!

Late Night Sushi Adventures! My girlfriend and I stumbled upon Drunken Sushi late one night and, because who can say No to sushi, we decided to grab a few bites. Drunken Sushi is conveniently located on the quiet side of Clement street in the Richmond, away from the rowdy bars and belligerent pedestrians, which meant for a quiet meal. I couldn’t help but contradict their name since NOBODY in nor out of the restaurant was intoxicated. Takoyaki $ 6 — Great balls of octopus!(literally). The takoyaki was very nice, with it’s pancake-like, custard-ie texture and generous portions of chopped octopus. I’m not much of a tako sashimi guy, but I love takoyaki, and this hit dead on! Whatever $ 12 — The roll consisted of prawn tempura, tuna, and yellowtail, which was all plated on a bed of two unique sauces(see picture). The fish was very fresh and the prawns had a good crunch from the tempura batter; not too fried, not too oily. The two sauces were especially good. The orange had a fiery kick while the green was wasabi infused offering a very uncommon blend of flavors, in a good way. Sweety $ 14 — This roll didn’t blow my mind like the Whatever roll, and I thought it was rather a bit tangy than«sweety». I felt that a few of the pieces had a tad too much avocado within, which masked the taste of the tuna and tobiko. It wasn’t a bad roll, just not the best either. Uni M/P($ 7.95 at the time) — What’s a test of a sushi restaurant’s capabilities than to order some Sea Urchin, which Drunken Sushi passed with flying colors! The Uni was beyond creamy and had that magical buttery texture that simply melts in your mouth. Any sushi restaurant that can prepare Uni this good deserves recognition(and my business!) Drunken Sushi is open till 2AM(yup, 2 in the morning!) and is a great restaurant if your fiending for some good sushi. The waitresses here are also so friendly and kind, and hard working. It does gets a good amount of customer traffic while counting down the minutes til closing time and orders do take quite a bit so be wary. Is it worth the wait? Yes, fresh fish, friendly service, bomb sushi, and I don’t even have to be drunk = WIN.

It must have been fate, because I didn’t even know I would be going to Drunken Sushi until about 14 minutes before I walked in the door. But coming off of a strong blue grass buzz, there was a magnetic pull, keeping me upright and drawing me closer to the doors of this establishment. I thought the service was a little slow, especially because it was around 9 and tables were clearing out, but I’ll concede that the place was in the busy, table transition stage of the night. Also, we went to an recently vacated table near the front, so as to stake our claim to it, and were told that we could not sit until the table was wiped off. As if a little spilt soy sauce ever hurt anyone… and it’s not like I’m going to leave here without it down the front of my shirt/in my lap anyway. But to me, this indicated that the place was super clean. I ordered miso soup, and edamame, a few maki rolls, and a few special rolls(and four Sapporos, of course!) for the table. While I prefer nigiri, the drunken heart wants what the drunken heart wants(usually chicken wings, but tonight, she wanted big, pumped up rolls with tons of rooster sauce). The fish was fresh, and the flavors were tasty. I preferred the fancy rolls to the shiitaki maki(fun to say), but even the simple mushroom & rice roll was quite scrumptious. We ended up splitting it between 4, which was def economically efficient. I don’t think that the place was over the top pricey, but again, we didn’t really order anything crazy. Drunken sushi + Drunken Allie = Drunken Love. I hope to come back and try again, so stay tuned for a more sober take on things.

First thing first. this place opens late which is a major plus in my books since I always find myself looking for places that are open when I get out of a movie or after a long day. My friend and I caught a late movie, and after watching green hornet we really were craving some sushi. Decided to check out drunken sushi. We had three rolls, the boy roll {Boy crab meat are avocado salmon, tobiko, scallion, sesame garlic mayo & unagi sauce, baked}, Drunken Bomb {deep fried salmon, hamachi, tuna, tobiko, scallion, sesame seeds, cranberry, spicy mayo, unagi sauce} and Whatever roll {prawn tempura, spicy tuna, kappa topped with tuna and tai wasabi, unagi & spicy mayo sauce}. All were really good, and fresh fish might I add. Sushi and sake is the way to go, OH and beer :}

I was STARVED when we finally arrived here. I spent the previous hours trying to decide what to eat and my tummy decided that sushi was the way to go. My girlfriend took me to her«go to sushi place» and by the time we got there, everything on the menu sounded fabulous. I ordered two specialty rolls(did I mention I was hungry?) and my friend got two rolls too. I ordered a California roll with real crab and some type of shrimp tempura roll with spicy ahi on top. My friend got the Philly roll and something called a «big smile». The BIg Smile roll was a deep fried tempura roll with asparagus and hamachi on the inside. The roll was HUGE but the filling was almost nonexistent. There was a smidgen of cooked hamachi in it but the roll was so big it was basically a deep fried rice ball. I asked for real crab meat in my California roll but instead of making it like most other places with the crab meat mixed with mayo, it was just a small piece of crab meat with avocado. The roll had no flavor whatsoever because it wasn’t seasoned. I wound up taking the whole thing home to give to my friends. Usually, food tastes extra good when you’re starving but I felt like I had to choke it down because they weren’t very cheap rolls. P. S. Are they called Drunken Sushi because you should only come when you’re drunk? Food always tastes good when you’re drunk.
