My eyes are whacked out lately. Chemo, along with the ravages of time, too much reading and computer usage have my eyes in a tailspin. Not having insurance, I looked to see if I could find a service to help me update my prescription. After a phone pre-screening, I was sent a referral for a doctor near my home. I call the number. The receptionist says, ‘WHO?’ and gives me another number. I call them — this doctor is now in Oregon, having relocated there after Katrina. I call them back, They send another referral via mail. Why can’t you give it to me via phone? Can’t. Just Can’t. It comes from Canada. Why would Eye Care America be based in Canada? Received the new referral yesterday, and call them today. At least this office was more courteous, but the wrong doctor is listed. I have to wait even longer to see if they can accept the program. If you’re not going to update your records, then don’t offer your services. There’s not even a disclaimer on their website, or on the referrals. It’s an insult to a population that’s still quite traumatized from the devastation of their homeland.
