The breads are cute, and way cheaper than expected(coming from South Bay). The egg tarts are decently sized but maybe a 4⁄5 for the picky egg tart fan, but some of the other breads are pretty good.

Cute a little Asian bakery in Portola, but was pretty disappointed with their breads. Limited selection and the sweet breads lacked butter. I got the custard, red bean, and pineapple bun — all fairly mediocre. The custard was particularly underwhelming as it resembled more of the coconut cocktail bun rather than the creamy custard-filled center like I’m use to. Apparently their meat bun is really good. I’m not the biggest fan of savory buns but will give this a try next time!

This place was literally amazing when I was walking around in the store with a sticky pork bun, but it’s the gift that keeps giving as each new package we open is better than the last amazing treat. Go! Go my friends and EAT!

Wow, gruff customer services. Makes Sheng Kee seems downright friendly. But the breads are cheap and tasty. Particularly, the red bean infused bread had just the right ratio of bread to red bean and the milk buns(like giant oval marshmallows) had the most amazing texture between angel food cake and marshmallow.

My first green tea mousse cake for my daughter’s birthday, worse cake I ever had, the first layer is horrify green color jello(my daughter said it taste like toothpaste, it was mint actually), next layer was very thin green tea mousse(can’t taste like green tea at all). Center is cake and more yellow jello around it(? what ?) when I first pick up I asked«where is my cake?» The bottom suppose to be all CAKE! And also it was way too sweet! I used to have their mango mousse cake or regular cake and they are good! No more green tea next time”

I’m Mexican, so I love panaderias, but these Chinese bakeries are gonna give my people a run for their money. They have amazing baked goods here. We had a taro filled sweet, a red bean filled sweat, and a mango strawberry mousse that was out of this world. Bring your cash though! They don’t accept credit cards :(

Coconut loaf and red bean loaf are really good. Fluffy, quality, bread. Plenty of coconut and red bean filling inside. Generous in that respect compared to other bakeries. Often busy. Recommended: coconut loaf red bean loaf macau egg tart chestnut cake cup small cheesecake pork sung and green onion bread Not recommended: honeycomb coffee cake

The breads are soft. I like the coconut crème/loaf bread with raisin.

Found this place by chance after some really disappointing dim sum and it turned the entire day around! I love egg tarts and for all my fellow egg tart lovers, you know there’s two types of crusts. In my opinion, there’s the flakey messy crust and the yummy crust. This place has the latter and I could not be happier!

Stopped here for some egg tarts. Bakery is super clean, fast service, and very inexpensive! Everything was delicious and the best part of this experience is you grab your own stuff and than pay which I love. I can take my time and grab what I want, bring them the tray when your done and they package it up for you!

Great buns. Addicted to their pork sun roll with ham and green onions. Love their cakes! They have the cutest cake boxes I’ve ever seen PLUS they give you a set of plates, knife, forks, even candles! for free. Prices are great.

Originally ended up here because we were searching for pork buns on Unilocal and this was the closest spot. When I got there, every Asian was putting this one strange looking item onto their trays. Had no idea what it was but we decided to get one to see what it’s all about. We got home, tried it, and now we only come here for that: pork sung rolls. I’ve tried it at other Chinese bakeries since then but this place makes the best one — just the right amount of sweet and savory. It’s all self serve and the customer service is not that helpful, but I come back for the pork sung rolls. Cash only.

Really good treats. I aimed towards the cakes and mousse. They had chocolate which is soooo good, and tiramisu, and green tea. All of which have cute presentation and the taste to compliment it all. This bakery does specialize mainly on Asian treats like taro tart, egg tarts, red bean bread, etc. So if that’s what you’re aiming for then definitely try this. Desserts are similar to that of shengkee bakery. If you have tried them.

Holy Buddha, I’m addicted. This place wasn’t even on my radar as I only recently discovered it thru chance encounter at work during Christmas Eve. I was working that evening and our co-worker brought a couple of funky-lookin’ bread rolls(subsequently identified as Pork Sung Rolls) in our office. We had just finished eating our meal and I dismissed it at first. It had onions and dried pork on the sides so I was like, «Meh» at first. We put it aside and had no intention of even touching it. What changed my mind? The smell eventually drew me in. After a couple of hours of just staring at us, I said«Eff it.» and I went in for a bite. The first bite got to me as it was sweet, savory and with just the right texture of fluffiness on the bread. It was like eating dessert and yet it was meaty on the same time. You get the best of both worlds and the combination of flavors and texture in my mouth felt like Heaven and Earth coming together. OK, that’s a little bit overboard, but they were hella good. In fact, I immediately asked my co-worker where they get them from and I took a picture and checked it on Unilocal. I went with the Wifey a couple of days later as she used to live in this part of the neighborhood. This place has certainly changed from what I remember it back in the mid 90’s. Parking is a bit of a challenge, which requires a lot of patience and you will eventually find one. Another thing which will requires lots of patience is fighting those old Asian grannies grabbing, tugging, bumping, grinding, cutting and cussing you off just to get their fill. If you’re used to fighting them off like at the lines for the free food samples at Costco or the 38 Muni line on Geary, you should be fine. Plus the prices are inexpensive and the products are much, much, much better compared to Sheng Kee. I say bring on those Grannies, I’m bigger than ‘em.

OMG, this place is going down FAST in ratings! Forget that this is a neighborhood bakery and that they have delicious baked goodies to offer. This bakery is starting to skimp on its ingredients and the pastries are no longer fresh. I tried the honey bun and other sponge cakes and they were terrible. Let’s just say they stopped putting in the full amounts of oil/butter/shortening that is required in the recipe. Instead of soft and moist cakes, these were dry and difficult to swallow. I almost choked my way through eating one of these. Please, please do not give any of the sponge cakes to children. This is a choke hazard. If you liked the shredded pork roll, think again. Don’t even try to get these. They tend to run out fast and the kitchen fails to re-stock them in time. Also, I found out that the fresh buns gets mixed with the old ones so you might end up with one that is dried out and hard. Not appetizing nor sanitary. Also, beware when there are people rummaging through the trays of pastries. I caught one woman dropping one of the buns and putting it back onto the tray thinking no one will look. Hello!!! I saw you do it! Trays and tongs are not cleaned properly when they are placed out for customers. Wiping the trays and tongs with a dirty rag is not sanitary nor is it appetizing. I am very sad and disappointed in this bakery. In the beginning it seems they were trying to go beyond the typical stereotype of a Chinese bakery and create a wonderful business. Now I can see it is all about the money and cutting corners to save a little. Employees look over worked and irritated with customers. No friendly or helpful employee can be found here. Pastries and cakes are not fresh and made poorly. Not enough oil in the cakes and the taste is not like before, lack of sugar? Also, the establishment as a whole is not clean any more. You find buns and pastries on the floor, crumbs everywhere, and pastries are not kept in the proper temperature. When you buy a cake you expect the cake to be kept in a cold enough fridge and not melt on the way home.

Tiny bakery close to the 101 near south SF Man did not know this place existed! For a tiny shop, this place sells so many different types of bakery, it’s unbelievable. There is literally more baked goods than there is standing room in the place. They even have a standing shelf of mooncakes in front of the cash register – it was very tempting. In terms of quality, the buns they sell are also pretty nice, although it’s not that warm by the time I got it. Same for the tarts – you can tell it’s made with quality, but was not stored in a warm area, which was a little disappointing. Still, the taste is there. They also sell normal coffee, with very little sitting room(one table basically), which is ok. Basically, the whole place is packed with colorful cakes, high quality gift sets, mooncakes, egg tarts, and all kinds of buns. It’s a real candy shop in there. Overall, a place to grab some quick buns when you’re on the go!

I really enjoy this Bakery. The location is on a busy street on San Bruno Ave, and parking is sometimes hard to find, but not impossible. Similar to a ShengKee, but their cakes are bomb! I’ve tried most of the larger cakes for parties, like their greentea mousse cake(which is my favorite), and their regular chinese sponge cake is really good as well because it’s not too sweet and has fresh fruit inside. I like chinese cakes because their cream/icing is not buttercream icing and sometimes, after a large meal you just want a light airy cake. I would say, if you have a party, just call in and reserve a cake. For my grandma’s birthday, I tried walking in and picking up a cake, and at least 7 of them were already reserved so I had to settle for something that I didn’t originally want to buy. When you buy a cake, they put it in a gorgeous colorful box, that comes with plates, plastic knives, mini forks, as well as 2 candles. Perfect for a party! Tons of selections of buns, tarts, breads, as well as larger cakes and mini mousses and cake slices.

I come here once in a while for some baked goods. Most of the buns on display are decent, but the section I like the best if the cold dessert section. My favorite happens to be the cheesecake. It’s nice and light with a slight cheese taste. Some of the more warm buns are dry and not as flavorful as I’d like in a savory bun. The one in question is the ham and egg bun. The both the ham and egg was really dry and a tab bit salty. Perhaps they had a bad batch? I’m curious to find out where most of their product comes from because time and time again, I see a big truck parking nearby and workers coming in and out of that truck to off haul some supplies and not just raw baking products, but caskets of already baked goods. Interesting… They seem to have an entire bakery behind the cash register, but most of the display items aren’t nice and piping hot. I might drop by again and ask them why this is.

Of all the things we brought to our Christmas party, no one understood why we were missing dessert. Therefore, we made an emergency run to the bakery. Luckily, they were open and we got our sweet tooth cravings satisfied. We got the tiramisu cake and the family loved it. It was spongy, lightly sweetened, light, and airy… Just the way I like my asian cakes! The only thing was that the fruits were not in season so they were kind of raw and the cake didn’t have much flavor, but the texture of it was amazing! I didn’t get to try anything else but everything looked so light and fluffy! Guess a trip back is due soon!
