Fortune Star Café isn’t here anymore. Yummy Bakery is. the food offerings are the same, with a slightly higher price. dim sum: 3/1.65 3 items from steamed table plus rice = $ 4 congee, rice bowls also available. food taste the same with a slight bit of msg.

I would have given this place a zero star if I could have. Employees wore nitrile gloves the whole time– the same pair as they handled cash, removed dirty plates, and walked out of the bathroom. They splashed water on the dirt glove and wiped them dry on a rag. Wtf. Won ton soup $ 9. Really? This is a tourist trap with extremely questionable cleanliness– see above. Not worth the extra seating that other dim sum places in the area are lacking.

While on my hunt for good dim sum in Chinatown, I came across Fortune Star. The restaurant was dark and the food that was in the glass cases didn’t look too appetizing… but I had already walked in, what could I do but give Fortune Star a try. So, I ordered a few items — I can’t remember it all except for the shrimp crêpe roll — and by the 4th bite, I had had enough. They didn’t offer to warm up the food(though I didn’t ask either). so it was cold, hard, unpleasant. I was so upset with my meal, I threw the rest away. and I rarely ever do that with food. I guess I just picked the wrong items… but suffice it to say, from my first experience, I won’t be coming back any time soon. Um… Maybe when my ego heals.

Another great find in Ctown for Chinese Home-style cooking takeout(or dine in) for CHEAP! $ 3.25 you get 3 dishes to choose, and bunch of rice. Portion so big that I get so full with some leftovers, and I eat more than men… Homestyle cooking dishes to choose from: — chinese spare ribs — chinese stir fried chicken wings — ground steam pork cake — some fish items — couple dishes of veggies of the day — and something else… so many to choose from… I can’t memorized them all, and plus they switch sometimes — and my favorite: steamed egg custard with meat… ohhh so smooth. YUMMAY! I usually get the egg custard with 2 different veggie choices. or TWO egg custards with one veggie choice. Can’t comment on the meat dishes, I never tried them and prollie never will. The egg custard is just too good and i love veggie… They also have dim-sum as well, but I never get to try it. Seriously, where do you get steam egg custard besides your mama’s house for less than five bucks? I just never have the skill to cook it that smooth: T Also Cash Only.
